361  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Zerocoin - has it's time come? on: March 27, 2014, 04:48:47 PM
Or perhaps Darkcoin once it's made open source? (don't think it is yet...)
362  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | No Premine | DGW | ASIC Resistant on: March 19, 2014, 10:58:48 AM
Vault of satoshi asked about which coin to add. I think we should reply with constructive posts. Not just "add DRK " or "Darkcoin <3" etc

Can we all please support this?

363  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Vault of Satoshi asks What Coins Do You Want to See? on: March 19, 2014, 10:57:44 AM
Please add Darkconi (DRK).

Darkcoin is one of the few coins with genuine innovation, here is an explanation for how it works:

http://razorsforex.blogspot.co.uk/2014/02/darkcoin-anonymous-cryptocurrency.html

It deserves a place in Vault of Satoshi not only because it is popular and high volume trade but also because there is real development going on there.  It has a solid supporter base and has kept a relatively stable price compared to many other coins and Darkcoin development is extremely active, with a full time developer.

Also an announcement about Darkcoin beta testing phrase made it to the 'hot' section in r/bitcoin:
http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1zde2w/darksend_beta_is_live_now_drk_darkcoin_the_worlds/

This demonstrates a high level of acceptance of darkcoin's usefulness by bitcoiners, indicating it is a respectable coin and worth adding.  I'm sure Darkcoin will be a high volume coin on Vault of Satoshi.

I totally understand where you are coming from, and we have considered it. But, we don't want to give away everything at this stage.

The students at the early workshops will probably get 100 coins free (or more ), and the word will spread. Then, we have options once the word spreads.

Ok no problem just brainstorming!
365  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PRE ANN] [UKC] UK Coin – Real Team with Free UK Workshops on: March 17, 2014, 10:38:05 PM
Great question. We think the idea of giving away coins to random/all residents of a particular country is flawed for several reasons.

1. Most residents won't be interested;
2. Many of those that are interested will probably dump the coins as quickly as possible and therefore reducing the value of the coin.

We only intend to give students of our workshops coins because many will be genuinely interested in them, and they will tell others about them which will help spread the word about crypto-currencies.

Any premine will be as little as possible but we have not crunched the numbers yet.

Are you from the UK?

I take it there will be a premine as you will be giving away some UK coins at the free crypto-workshops.  How big will the premine be?  Will there be any other premined coins available for UK residents who can prove their identify? (like Auroracoin or Spaincoin).

Yes I am.  It's a great idea to give some away at your UK based crypto workshops, but if that's all that ties the coin to the UK and the rest will be mined as usual then most of the coins will end up around the world making it not distinguished enough from the other alt clones to be a serious coin imho.

There could be a way that once the coins are claimed they can't be sent for a certain period to prevent dumping, such as having a maturation period (like Devcoin).  Or even better, have UK citizens able to claim a tiny percentage of the total coins, which would be sent them gradually over the course of the whole mining period, this could be combined with a maturation period so that every day there become a few new available coins for each person.  It would take a bit of programming work and a some manpower to verify the claims, but as you say most people would't claim them, so maybe only 1 or 2 people doing the verification would be enough at first.  Anyone who claims later could have their claim back-dated so they get their full percentage.

Edit: idea
One way to verify would simply be to provide an UK address and a paper wallet could be sent.  - Added benefit, more of a hassle to dump the coins!

First draft of Darkcoin bounties

These are subject to change. Please suggest more and give me your feedback.

A quick explanation of how this will work: The "base bounty amount" is not the final bounty, it's a relative figure to make calculations easier. The base figure is adjusted depending on the actual donations we've received in the fundraiser. The "adjusted bounty amount" is what will actually be paid out.

TL/DR: Donate more, and all the bounties will go up!

*** PLEASE NOTE: Translation bounties will apply only to the new website, which is not yet launched! Expect it to be launched within a couple weeks. ***

PM me your submissions with some kind of proof that it's your work. Some of these bounties are first-in-gets-paid, and some will go into a pool where the best will be judged to receive the bounty (these are marked as such below).

This is looking great! Smiley  I made a mistake sending my first 50DRK, it didn't go through so I just re-sent it and donated another 50DRK.

I see there is a bounty for a "professionally vectorised art and logo", is the logo different to the 'coin image'?  I think the coin image/depiction is pretty awesome already.

What would it take to get an Android wallet app like the one Andreas Schildbach put together for Bitcoin up and running? Oh, how easy it would be to introduce Darkcoin to acquaintances when all they have to do is download an app that allows me to scan a QR code on their screen, send some coins then have it pop up on their wallet's DRK balance) I've noticed allot of coins don't have a smartphone wallet (I'm disregarding the web-based wallets on purpose, lol) to speak of which doesn't make much sense considering the massive amount of people whom use the things as their primary communication device. Would anyone here happen to have the programming skills/time to do such a thing? I cannot offer much for payment myself (100DRK/BTC equvalent) but perhaps the rest of the community would be grateful enough to donate to the author once it's out in the wild?

This imo is a worthy suggestion for the bounty list being put together by LimsLims. You can donate to the fund (see quote below):

Official fundraiser for Darkcoin marketing & branding

Since Darkcoin was 0% premined, we will be doing this the old fashioned way, with a fundraiser. Many people in the community have expressed an interest in pushing our marketing effort along. We wanted to make sure the time was right, while Evan sorted out the kinks in the Darksend code. But we are nearly ready to show Darkcoin and Darksend to the world, so let's get this moving.

I will release a list of bounties for marketing & branding in the next day or so when I have a bit of spare time. For now, you may donate to the official fundraising wallet (anonymously if you like!). You can also PM me with your donation details and I'll keep some accounting, if only for the sake of making sure your donation is accounted for and spent appropriately.

As always, you are a fantastic community and we appreciate your support!

Is there a Mac wallet working for Lion? The one available is only for Mavericks. Thank you!

Ah so that's why it wouldn't work... I'm on Snow Leopard.

All of your marketing $$ should be to find some legit white-hat hackers to test the anonymous features. You should look out for legit, known coin developers (someone known with a connection to BTC would be great).

I'd definitely be in favour of a large portion of funds going towards this kind of thing.

Here are some ideas that come to mind and we might want to see them come to life:

- Darkcoin paper wallet system

- Android wallet. I find "Mycelium bitcoin wallet" great because it also supports drawing money from cold storage (paper wallets). That way you can be sure your money is safe 100% until you touch it for the first time. Then if you don't trust the app, you manually make sure the remaining DRK goes back into another paper wallet. Can someone contact the Mycelium bitcoin wallet creator and see if he would be willing to create a DRK fork for us and how much he wants to be paid for it (then we chip in with donations)

- Write a pro, interesting, short and to the point text explaining everything about how DRK works and why it is different/better from the rest. Then hire a professional speaker to read out the text (create voiceover). Then make a short "documentary". Use the voiceover and add appropriate videos/images as the voice explains it. Post that on Youtube and let's spread it

- possibly modify the darkcoin.io page to include the above mentioned video

- does the darkcoin dev need any help? maybe we can get a fund going which would be used by the dev to hire a coding/crypto expert he finds amazing to help with whatever is needed

- how about putting some donations together to run a facebook ad campaign, getting people to know darkcoin (that short documentary above would come in handy as a landing page)

- let's all do some brainstorming, keep such ideas flowing, and let's not leave it at that. implementation of good ideas is a must. Anyone can lead the way - just write up your project, present it to the community, provide a donations wallet and let the people put their money in as support votes

Great plan mayday9!

Yes, I am way too busy to do it myself. However, I put LimLims incharge of management of the project awhile back.

LimLims, can you provide a DRK address and be responsible for collecting + securing the bounty donations?  If so, we can get started!

Edit:  I have PMd LimLims about this.  Awaiting response.

Thanks bigrcanada!

As mentioned above I think we should get the mining pools involved to offer an auto-donation to get the foundation funded. I also think we should use a similar rewards structure as heavy, obviously with fewer coins since ours are and will be worth so much more!

eduffield can you put up a donation address for the Foundation and implement the donation option on your pool to that address? If you do it then other mining pool operators can follow suit, up until a fund ceiling of 200,000 DRK or so.

I think most miners would be happy to contribute, especially when it will go directly to the foundation and improving the awareness, development and value of the coin. It's in everyone's best interest!

+1

Completely agree.  We need a someone we all trust to hold the coins for the bounties.  It makes sense that eduffield be that person, seeing as he must have a lot of trust from us as we are all counting on his development of the coin.  I would step up myself except I'm having trouble with my wallet (on a mac, it keeps quitting).  If we can get a darkcoinfounation website or simply a bounty page added to http://www.darkcoin.io/ with an darkcoin address controlled by eduffield (or another trusted person) we can all start chipping in to pay for the bounties.  We can propose bounties here in this thread and/or over at https://www.darkcointalk.org/.  Let's do it! Just a final thing to add, Darkcoin development is extremely active, just today Darksend V3 was released!  Here is the documentation for this amazing feature:
