241  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [MYR] Myriad - Multi Algo - SHA or Scrypt or Qubit or Skein or Groestl on: April 01, 2014, 08:54:39 PM
Anyone with spare Skein Power, have a look @

https://myrskein.suprnova.cc

Currently testing the code and looking for first Block, should work fine though Smiley
Naturally no fees, payouts every minute etc.

Its cool to see that Myriad finally goes up again, I did not believe it at first :-)

I'll give you a try, mined with you on Max, good luck.

I have an interest in Aurorcoin as I have a friend in Iceland who alerted me to it knowing of my interest in Bitcoin and have been watching this thread with a mixture of sadness and amusement.

First let me say I don't own any AUR, I have tried mining pretty unsuccesfully but I believe that the idea behind the coin is a good one, if only because Iceland is the only country that gave the EU the finger and tried to go it alone though it seems that their politicians have made the common Icelandic people take all the hurt.

Now to the point of this post, it seems there are 2 main antagonists who are constantly criticizing this coin as well as other coins.

BitcoinEXpress and markm, both longtime posters who joined in 2011.

BitcoinEXpress was in critical mode by his third post and warned by the mods for posting unsubstantiated accusations.

"[Mod]: BitcoinExpress either share the link so we can all see what you see or dont say anything. Stop the childish attitude. Dont thread to show, just show. If you mean well for the Bitcoin community, give us the information. Otherwise we will asume you are lying."
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=32604.msg410112#msg410112

markm was showing what appears to be disdain for anything that appears on this forum, especially anything altcoin related.

"I kind of envisioned some nations deliberately buying and selling their own currency among their own sock-puppets constantly deliberately to create high volumes at high prices precisely for the purpose of convincing speculators that there is money to be made with that currency..."
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1388.msg42738#msg42738

Looking through a few of their posts it is obvious that both are quite intelligent which begs the question
"why join the Bitcoin forum and community and stay for three years when right from the start you are posting negativity?"

My initial thoughts are these guys are possibly, along with others, employed by either government or financial institutions to spread FUD and discredit the idea of decentralised cryptocurrency as an alternative to the failed fiat system.

Sadly looking at Bitcoin's recent price drop their efforts are working.

RT says it's probably a tech glitch, I hope so.

"RT's YouTube channel 'suspended', tech glitch likely to blame"

Maybe because they didn't report the Ukraine/Crimea situation properly  Smiley RT America is still up though.

I am going to take your ripping off of my thread idea as a compliment.

"Dorian S. Nakamoto hires lawyer to 'clear his name' of bitcoin claim"

http://www.latimes.com/business/technology/la-fi-tn-dorian-s-nakamoto-hires-lawyer-to-clear-his-name-of-bitcoin-claim-20140316,0,41210.story

Looks like those bitcoin donations from the community are going into a lawyers pocket unless he manages to get compensation from Newsweek.
In the article he states

"My prospects for gainful employment has been harmed because of Newsweek's article."

I would have thought just the opposite, he's more chance of getting work because of the publicity, anyway good luck to the old guy, I like him.
248  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can you see the blockchain being used to register votes in general elections? on: March 15, 2014, 10:36:03 AM
It's a noble thought and the tech itself would be pretty much secure HOWEVER just google UK postal vote fraud, namely the head of household of certain cultures voting for a whole family and also registering false tenants for voting which is very common in certain "culturally enriched" parts of Britain.

It seems we have access to the foundation forums now.

Having just read this one thread I don't see any sign of professionalism or maybe it's more a lack of transparency, anyway the phrase "piss up in a brewery" springs to mind.

I would say they do not represent "the community", rather they represent positions that lead to sound and minimal regulation of bitcoin businesses. There is a wide diversity of opinions about how bitcoin should be treated. From pressing for a tax fee and totally anonymous system, to systems that track the history of coins.
Without an org like the foundation we will certainly face the most drastic government regulation possible. Laws will be made this year, there is no doubt. What those laws will be is the question.
If you believe in the wisdom of our politicians, then by all means do nothing. Perhaps they will understand Satoshi's vision and seek to advance the bitcoin economy? I doubt it. I think we are in the critical fight phase of crypto-currency and what happens in the next couple of years will determine the future of your profits. Lead, follow, or get out of the way.
Why not find out for yourself what is going on at the BF?

253  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How much do YOU know about the Bitcoin Foundation? on: March 10, 2014, 11:59:43 AM

The idea for the Bitcoin Foundation was initially floated by Gavin.
It got widespread support on this forum.

When the organization did form I was a bit surprised that the price to get a seat at the table was so high.  IIRC, Karpeles paid 5,000 BTC for instance.  That was, to me, a bad omen but then I started out being negative toward it.  This still didn't phase most people and there was almost universal accolades for it.

I, and I think most people, didn't really know where Vessenes came from.  It turns out that he had already been around for a while and was involved in at least the Bitcoinica fiasco where a lot of people lost money.  It is unclear whether Vessenes pocketed some of the Bitcoinica money or not, nor is it clear whether he paid for his seat at (the head of) the table at the Bitcoin Foundation.  Perhaps the info is clear, but I've not seen it although I've not looked very hard.  The Bitcoin Foundation is not open and many of the details of the organization and their activities seem to be quite opaque.  This was, in fact, one of the things I was concerned about when the idea was in request for comments phase (Gavin's forum post.)

I've always given the Bitcoin Foundation a lot of credit for the money I've made off Bitcoin so far, but I do believe that they are a negative force and their activities will result in the eventual collapse and end of Bitcoin.  It might take some time however, and for my part I plan to try to capitalize on things monetarily to the best of my abilities.

Not so.
Gavin's proposal was posted October 25, 2011, 08:13:25 PM here

But there was this one week earlier posted by user freeminer
We need a Bitcoin Foundation for more trust

I don't know if Gavin missed the original or someone saw an opportunity to get a foothold in the running of bitcoin and put it to Gavin to propose it.

Why was no-one asking who would be the board members and would they be democratically elected, probably because it was Gavin proposing it and everybody trusts Gavin.

As it turns out, it seems the foundation has just been a place for "interested parties" to move bitcoin in their preffered direction.
254  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I will go out on a limb and say it. Dorian S Nakamoto is the real Satoshi. on: March 08, 2014, 01:39:03 PM
I'll go out on a limb to say some person/organisation is spending a lot of time and probably money trying to confuse us over this Dorian/Satoshi affair re. the recent public key jiggery pokery and the P2P Foundation message.

I just did some googling on variations of Dorian's name and strangely if you enter "Dorian Prentice"  -satoshi into google which specifically tells google to find the exact phrase "Dorian Prentice"  and not to list results containing "Satoshi" and using the date filter to search before 1st Jan. 2014 (before the shitstorm happened), there is one result that appears several times linked to many pages.

"Dorian Prentice says he did not create Bitcoin" , this is in fact a video (here) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WOdq-RV_32Q uploaded by, now here is a strange twist , "BreakingNews World English".

When I first found it the uploader was named "mnt tnm" and within an hour of me being the first viewer the uploader changed name.

Also this uploader has only been active for TWO DAYS uploading 275 videos at the time of writing this post, most of which have had no views, incidentally when I looked at it the first time under the name "mnt tnm" there were 259 videos so he/they have uploaded 16 vids in less than 2 hours.

Seems to me there is a lot of smoke and mirrors being presented to the bitcoin community, in my view there are big players at work here.
255  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gavin regrets after Satoshi revealed on: March 06, 2014, 05:30:20 PM
sell btc before they gonna worth nothing!

Sorry but I think if this is proven to be Satoshi the price will go up as more people realise it's not any govt dept. (CIA/NSA/MI5) behind bitcoin.
256  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Another Bitcoin Stolen Its Deposits on: March 04, 2014, 06:21:32 PM
WHY WHY WHY ARE PEOPLE STILL LEAVING THEIR COINS WITH THIRD PARTIES

Because they are either stupid or greedy.

The stupid who haven't seen what has gone on with the likes of Gox I have a little sympathy for because they don't have the brains to see cons in action.

The greedy who hold coins on an exchange for speculation in the hope of making a few bucks on the ups and downs of bitcoin I have absolutely no sympathy for.
257  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin shop in London on: February 24, 2014, 12:21:46 AM
So, I dropped by this afternoon and it's everything it appears to be. Akin is very cool and obviously clued in; cool as in, he got his Bitcoin's a couple of years ago from Amir Taaki. He's moving with the times relative to MtGox and switched from a simple price averaging that included them, to looking now at BitStamp and others for a good real price, to which he adds 3% commission - so, not the high end of localbitcoins and I expect might be cheaper than ZipZap and the ATMs though I don't know what those are just yet.

He's only been open since Monday and surprised by the attention already, though I suspect also rather enjoying it.

I mentioned bitcointalk in passing, which he was apparently unaware of; he noted the idea of selling other items for Bitcoin but I suspect he's got plenty enough to do already. No plans for alt-coins just yet but realistic about those in the future, if they ever dissociate from BTC and have real world potential etc.

Highly recommended then. Akin good to do business with and the process he has setup is as simple as can be. You pay whatever you want and get a receipt with a code to redeem later to any address you want. That receipt of coins then is very fast and so I had mine around the 70secs the ticket suggested.

 Cool

Great news, thanks for the info.
258  Other / Off-topic / Re: Something As Revolutionary As Bitcoin Is About To Emerge, Net Failed To Notice! on: February 23, 2014, 05:16:24 PM
nice try.

now tell me: why should anyone put money into infrastructure or act as ISP, if the ability to make money by selling one's customers is taken away?

Put money into what infrastructure?

And what do you mean act as ISP?

And what was i trying?

Edit: i think i understand what you are trying to say.

Question 1:

There is no need to put money into any infrastructure, if you want to upload data, you will need to be able to provide the equivalent amount of data to the network. This is in contrast to the traditional method of buying server space.

Question 2:
You do not act as an ISP,you still use the existing ISP you have.[/size][/size] You are part of a decentralized network of nodes, if you go offline, the network will not die and data will not be lost as multiple backups are distributed amongst the nodes (although your rank will lower) . You do this if you value freedom, privacy and anonymity.

In which case all the talk about privacy is moot as the ISP has all your traffic records ready to pass on to whoever pays the most surely?
259  Other / Off-topic / Re: Something As Revolutionary As Bitcoin Is About To Emerge, Net Failed To Notice! on: February 23, 2014, 02:17:37 PM
Isn't there still a need for an ISP to get traffic onto the network?

I'm in UK and don't have bitcoin payment option either plus the postage is a whopping £10.80.
