1  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Introducing walletBouncer, a new Bitcoin wallet monitoring service on: January 23, 2019, 01:34:01 PM
I want to post about xpub keys (HD Wallets) in the app.

Some wallets like Trezor, and Electrum give access to correct extended public (xpub) keys, and others like Ledger give an xpub but its not formatted correctly and does not map to correct address space. Other wallets like BRD, and Jaxx dont give you access to xpub keys at all.

If your addresses start with 1 then you should put in key stat starts with xpub
if your addresses start with 3 (segwit) then your key should start with ypub
if your addresses starts with bc1 (bech32 segwit) then your key should start with zpub

Its a good idea to make sure your next address(In walletBouncer app) matches your regular wallet next address to make sure you have the correct address space mapped before you receive BTC into that address.

Some wallets dont adhere to above format, but there is always a way to get the correct extended public key by using a tool like https://github.com/iancoleman/bip39
if anyone needs help, open a ticket at www.walletbouncer.com under support.

walletBouncer will support extended public keys with incorrect version bits. Now you can register almost any xpub and walletBouncer will determine what the address scheme is. You should be able to register the xpub keys from the Ledger (and others) for segwit addresses that start with xpub.

We will announce when this is ready.  Shouldnt be long, and shouldnt require new app download.

walletBouncer can now convert your extended public keys. So if your using a wallet that displays the extended public key with the incorrect version bytes (xpub, ypub, zpub) the app will convert it while scanning for balances.

Also, if anyone is interested in reviewing the app, we have some promo codes available for premium in-app upgrade.  DM me if interested.  (Android version not available yet)
2  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Does Ledger Give Different Extended Public Keys for Both Segwit and Legacy Addr on: January 16, 2019, 01:15:23 PM
@merclyn, that one wont work in this case because it's different derivation paths so it's different public keys from the seed.

Your right, I should have understood the OP's main issue before I posted.

What I thought I was responding to was this scenario:
A Ledger Nano S was setup new with segwit addresses, but it provides a xpub in the log.

According to SLIP-0132 (https://github.com/satoshilabs/slips/blob/master/slip-0132.md) there should be different version byte (or different prefix on that key)
The ledger I tested should have produced a key that started with ypub (P2WPKH in P2SH), but it produced an xpub key.
The Trezor I tested displays the correct extended public key for the address scheme used..

The site I posted earlier would change the Bytes and return a ypub (or zpub if needed).

Thanks for the correction.

I found a website that will convert the extended public key from xpub to ypub, or zpub. (actually can convert from any to any)

https://jlopp.github.io/xpub-converter/

the git project is at: https://github.com/jlopp/xpub-converter

I converted the core conversion logic to python for another project im working on.  I can post if anyone needs

I just got word that the issue has been resolved.  Again, thank you for your feedback.
It's working now. Smiley

The website can't be reached.
Seems the website's server IP adress could not be found.
I used three browsers.
Working fine here.

If most btc users have android platform, why did you start with app store?
Who said most BTC users use android? And why should it matter?

Why should i pay for premium membership in order to get new addresses? Looks that users will not have access for their private keys. Right?
I don't think you understood what the app does.

This app does not have access to private keys, and it cannot sign transactions (or spend bitcoin).

The app does 24/7/365 monitoring of mempool for any transactions on your wallet, and it notifies you (email/text) as soon as it sees any. It does this besides displaying real-time balances.  The Monitoring is server side so this happens even if the app or your phone is off. With Premium level you can monitor more than 1 wallet in the app.

I hope the community finds this useful, I know I do.  Please post or DM if you have questions.
If someone cannot get to website, please DM me, it should be available globally.

The app is crashing immediately after I try to log in. Already confirmed my email and can't open it anymore (on iOS 12).

Thank You for letting us know.  We are aware of an issue that should be resolved shortly.  I will post when its fixed.

We have released version 2, which has more features in it. Its now a watch-only style wallet.
Users can now view wallet balances, and still get notifications on any activity (Even if the phone or app is off)
If you register your xpub (Like from Trezor) the wallet can also track all future transactions, and
there is also a way to get your next receive address(with QR Code) for HD wallets. So users can receive BTC into their wallet (Like Trezor, and other HD wallets) without needing access to the actual HD wallet. (Leave your hardware wallet in the safe, and still receive funds).

walletBouncer
Available on Apple App Store (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/walletbouncer/id1369626879?mt=8)
We have development working on www, and android version, but not ready yet.

10  Economy / Speculation / Re: IS IT TIME TO BUY MORE BITCOIN? on: January 11, 2019, 06:25:30 PM
The Absolute best time to buy Bitcoin would have been back in 2010 (Not sure if anyone was selling in 2009)
Most of us missed it. Next best time is right now, and always will be right now.
If your looking to make a quick buck, and get rich quick, I dont have advice for you. You should go learn how to read technical charts.

11  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Help learning about bitcoin? on: January 11, 2019, 05:09:49 PM
I did, but I wanted a more in depth explanation, with examples, if possible.

I can suggest Mastering Bitcoin (2nd edition) as a great resource. I believe its available on github for free, but I would buy it to support the author.

A bank accepting Bitcoin is like Sears putting Amazon lockers inside their stores.
13  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: To save bitcoin - stop buying bitcoin cash on: January 11, 2019, 04:30:33 PM
Is bitcoin-cash still around? /s
This centralized coin was such a mistake for all who believed in it, but was good for Bitcoin in that it was another attack that Bitcoin fended off which contributed to its antifragility.
Im happy to see it just go away once and for all.
14  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would Bitcoin be the same if Satoshi wasn't anonymous? on: January 11, 2019, 02:08:39 PM
satoshis identity isnt unknown its just in doubt

just pretend craig wright is true satoshi, what now?

he didnt created bitcoin alone
I would be disappointed if it were proven that Craig was the real Satoshi.
Craig would have to prove he has the keys to one of the first blocks, (like block #1) for most to be convinced,
and him touting he is, and not being able to move a single early satoshi or sign a message with one of those private keys means (to me) he is full ot sh*t.

Its been said by others that Satoshi gave us 2 great gifts. the first was Bitcoin, the second was disappearing.

Im going to have a drink to Hal later.

On ice?   Shocked
Some nice single barrel Kentucky bourbon with a single ice ball in the company of 1 other.
16  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would Bitcoin be the same if Satoshi wasn't anonymous? on: January 11, 2019, 09:39:45 AM
How would the crypto arena be different if everyone knew who Satoshi was?

Unlike many (or all) other crypto currencies nobody is in control of bitcoin, which is one of the contributing factors to its decentralization.
If Satoshi didn't disappear he/she/they would have too much power over its development and direction (Like all the other founders have), and bitcoin would be nothing like we have today. It may not even be around anymore along with the entire crypto industry.

17  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: IBM Unveils World's First Quantum Computer for Commercial Use on: January 09, 2019, 10:22:10 AM
I dont believe any quantum computers that are out or coming out anytime soon can break SHA256 yet.
When something like that comes out, we should have some time to react before it starts breaking things.

Dont forget that a computer that can break SHA256 is a huge threat to the entire internet, not just bitcoin.
18  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is less stable than some ALTs ! on: January 08, 2019, 10:58:00 AM
Bitcoin is more than just about the price in USD terms. Its stability should be measured more broadly than that. But even if that is all you care about BTC moves slower than the others who have much less marketcap, and things like ripple are just some corporate centralized pre-mined coin, and have very little in common with Bitcoin.
19  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it possible sending BTC without a transaction fee? on: January 07, 2019, 05:27:28 PM
I would know if it is possible to send BTC without a transaction fee regardless of theoretically or practicall..

This is possible on the lightning network.
Yes you will be sending BTC, and you can do this on the lightning network.

It will require a fee to get your BTC in and out of the Lightning network, but once you open a payment channel, you can perform many transactions with no of very very little fee.

20  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it possible sending BTC without a transaction fee? on: January 07, 2019, 03:21:48 PM
jes that is possible, if you use "bitcoin certificates" on a bitcoin holding bank, and transact bitcoin to another user of a "bitcoin holding bank"

the banks never transact the bitcoins, they simply change, the amounts of bitcoins in personal ownership.

"Bitcoin holding bank"? I guess an online wallet, or exchange?

These are offchain, OP is asking about onchain tx's.
