1  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Husband does not want me to Day Trade BTC but it works well for some, right? on: April 28, 2013, 08:31:46 PM
The only active trading that makes sense to me is the case of risk management: if you wish to not "beat the market", but reduce the risk of loss while still making profits. I had taken on this approach for a period of several months, and made 100%-ensured, predictable profits. These profits turn out to be lower than if I held and sold today, but I had essentially zero risk.

Now that I took profits and rewarded myself with real-life goodies, I can keep holding the rest of coins.  I am waiting for good opportunities to spend them directly - and these days are approaching! Also, if I need fiat cash urgently, I'll trade some coins. If I've got extra cash, I'll buy coins. That's it.

So what's your strategy? I didn't think it was possible to hedge/do risk management with bitcoins, but maybe I'm wrong.

2  Economy / Economics / Re: USD-->BTC-e-->your wallet-->MtGox-->????--->>PROFIT on: April 25, 2013, 02:07:29 AM
The problem with this approach is that bitcoin is an extremely volatile currency.
Your approach may look  good on paper, but it's very difficult to time the market to make any profit. MtGox DDOS attacks are also not helping.

Plus getting USD into  btc-e will cost you at least 2% of your principal. Not to mention plethora of other fees.

Thought about buying one of their units, but after doing some basic research, I'm 99.9999999% sure they're scamers.

The issue with btc-e is getting your money there, especially if you live in the US.
You'll have to pay 2% OKPAY transfer fee.
Other than that it's fine.

Right, I want to send bitcoins from btc-e to mtgox.

BitInstant sends USDs not Bitcoins.

I'm guessing you are hoping to take bitcoins from BTC-E and sell them at Mt. Gox where the exchange rate is higher, and then I'm guessing you don't want to wait for the six confirmations that the transfer will take.

How did you know!  Wink
Yes, that's what I was hoping to do. Appreciate your detailed answer. I'll look into the otc trading, it sounds interesting.

Right, I want to send bitcoins from btc-e to mtgox.

I wanted to use bitinstant so it's faster (unless doing what charliemaggot suggested is just as fast)
I'll look at aurumxchange, but wanted to know if what I'm doing is also possible

10  Other / Beginners & Help / Bitinsant - possible to send bitcoins from btce to mtgox? on: April 04, 2013, 02:54:27 AM
Hi,

Can I use BitInstant to send bitcoins from my btc-e account to mtgox?
I've created a btc-e code (in BTC's) and selected from the pull down menu "from Btc-e coupon" to "Mtgox". Now, what do I select under "Amount (USD) to pay"? I don't want to send USD's, I'd like to receive bitcoins on the other side. How do I calculate my USD amount and which exchange do I use to calculate the correct value, the btc-e or mtgox?

So confused right now....
