141  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Recommended ways to buy Bitcoin in Canada on: August 15, 2013, 02:31:49 AM

I've used 'em. Very safe, and lots of secretagenty type fun, sitting in a cafe watching for the guy wearing a teal carnation on a beret whilst sipping on a mocha latte venti. Easy way to buy a few coins.
142  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: New article about Bitcoin in this months Popular Science on: August 15, 2013, 02:15:22 AM
Very cool, thanks for sharing. I am trying to convince all my friends to own 1 (one) Bitcoin, because, well, you never know! So the more mainstream exposure, the better! I'll have to buy this when it comes out. I'll be reading it in the car with my  friends, and then: "Hey! Look at this! You know that Bitcoin I've been talking your head off about? Check it out..."
143  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 8 BTC --> need PPUSD on: August 15, 2013, 01:56:42 AM
Well i haven't used this service, but it looks to be OK, so far. You are basically trusting the middlemen to be honest, but so far they seem golden...

Good luck, and let us know how you make out.

Note: Read the whole thread just to make sure of the proper procedures and/or any cautions.

It's called Bitcoin-Brokers.

145  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do you think BTC will hit $200? on: August 14, 2013, 10:31:35 PM
Please everyone sell your Bitcoin immediately to drop the price so I can actually get some! Thank you. Thank you very much. (To answer your question: $200? Easily. Unless it goes to zero. That's not how I would bet, however).
146  Economy / Economics / Re: Why do people trust in fiat money? on: August 14, 2013, 10:19:31 PM

LOL'ed after looking it up on Google. (I am too old or too sheltered)

But ... No

147  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is Now The Time To Buy? on: August 13, 2013, 03:40:56 AM
I invested in an ASIC from KNCMiner, shocking investment. We shall see...

At this point in time, I'll be happy if it simply pays itself off, not expecting too much more due to the difficulty increases etc...

Not so shocking. It's an alternative way of buying BTC, hopefully with FIAT currency, although you do not know in advance how many coins you will receive. Also, it's good for the blockchain. BTC is awkward enough to buy that I am also considering buying a mining contract, for FIAT, of course. (If it were Winter, I might consider a mining device).

Interesting article on silver: Of course, it's no Bitcoin...

Cheap (?) hedging! Although not just for stocks. May be more useful with the price of Bitcoin itself.
152  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Canadian Having Difficulty Buying Bitcoin on: August 04, 2013, 02:29:12 AM
canadianbitcoins used to be 'ok' in that you can deposit cash at the bank and all you provide is an email address - the spread and prices are so-so.  But I think they've changed now.

Changed. You now have to register with Gov't Photo ID and they phone you to verify your address.
153  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin, Fiat and Aliens! on: August 03, 2013, 06:35:07 PM
Assuming the aliens are friendly
Never assume the aliens are friendly.

Or that they even count us as worthy of their attention.

Ants. What do they have that we want? Well suppose you want to build a shopping complex, but Darn! There’s an ant colony right there. What do you offer the colony for their land?

I no longer own SLW but I think it's a good play if you are bullish on silver.  A guy on a macroeconomics forum I read bet a bunch on them a while back and made a nice return.

Well if you believe that silver must go up, and this seems likely to me, then SLW sure looks like a speculative buy now, having been beaten down recently.

Note: I do not own, nor have I ever owned SLW, but I am thinking about buying some. Diversification is good, and if you believe in silver, how much can you actually hold physically, and how do you keep it safe? And how do you exchange it?

Of course, this is what makes BTC so attractive. Good luck to us all!
155  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Canadian Having Difficulty Buying Bitcoin on: August 01, 2013, 11:56:05 PM
So i'm looking to buy some bitcoin...

Depends what you mean by "some". If it's less than $500, why not try localbitcoins? Do it in cash, enable the escrow and you're GTG. If its more, well, I'd feel a bit jumpy schlepping around so much cash. Otherwise, you might as well just use an exchange like Virtex. Safer.

Another (less direct) way is to consider buying a mining contract using a credit card - Or is it possible to use PayPal or even (anonymously) a postal money order?. But of course, CAVEAT EMPTOR. With all the hashing coming onstream real-soon-now who knows how that will play out.

Good luck. These are exciting times. Historic, even.

He's right, try Sports betting or a Predictions market gambling.  Would be better off.

I'm really excited about Predictious! Looks like it will be fascinating.

If you really have a handle on a subject, YOU have the advantage.

Nice, you should look at some of competitors for ideas to add more events also, so you can see what's popular.

Or a Small bounty for unique ideas that generate a lot of bets...

Sometimes I wonder if any professional athletes bet on/against themselves using (potentially) anonymous Bitcoin Betting sites? Nah. Wouldn’t be ethical. Heh.
