361  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin on Google on: June 07, 2011, 02:35:05 AM
My guess, - Google just again drop trash from site promoters (all that unrelated to site search indexes).
362  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If Bitcoin wants to take off and go mainstream here is 1 thing they must conquer on: June 07, 2011, 02:25:18 AM
Well there  is almost nothing preventing porn sites to accept BTC.
But this is a big "almost" - age verification. Now that achieved through credit cards.
Porn sites can accept BTC, after credit card verification, but in that case, user just not interested in wasting his BTC.
363  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: GUIminer solo-mining quick request on: June 07, 2011, 02:09:22 AM

rpcuser=[Pickausername]
rpcpassword=[Pickapassword]
rpcallowip=[Pick the IP's you want to allow to connect to the server, wildcards like 192.168.1.* will work]
rpcport=[Pick your IP port number, default 8332]

Hypothetical: Say I have legitimate, approved, and sponsored access to a couple of schools over the summer, where the PCs are not in use.  (And yes I understand that CPU mining is generally unprofitable). Postulate that these schools have green/living roofs for cooling, wind and solar for electric, and are carbon neutral.  If I can run a cpu miner on 200-300 PCs, even if they only get 3-400khashs each, and I can guarantee (within reason) 99.999 uptime on my minerd/bitcoind process, I'm better off solo-mining with my own pool, neh?

Although I'd only be able to do this during the summer months while school is out.  Say 3 months.  Pool or no?

In that "abstract" case more intelligent solution is preferred, be it "push pool" (we can call it "solo" in that case) solution or "Flexible mining proxy" (pooled mining) solution.

EDIT: If computers will CPU mine, then of course pooled solution is better (200-300 CPU mining computers, ~ 300-400 Mh/sec total).

Excellent posts Meatball, its a shame that we still did not have "Like" button.
365  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: GUI mining - now with BFI_INT optimization on: June 07, 2011, 01:54:42 AM
Yes, GUIminer also creates directory C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\poclbm.
366  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin competitor that folds proteins? on: June 07, 2011, 01:10:11 AM
There is some hard argument`s against using hash power to something else than just to confirming transaction.
I am forgot them Smiley Well you should start looking in Satoshi paper.
367  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is your favourite conspiracy theory involving Bitcoins? on: June 07, 2011, 01:06:44 AM
No rational argument is involved - revenge is not rational.

So let`s start from revenge.

Japan - well, you know.
UK - They loose almost everything, and steal have ambitious elite.

More ?
368  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Write a Congressperson! (My letter to Ron Paul) on: June 06, 2011, 11:11:15 PM
I am don`t know, will it help or not, but if you think it will, i can send to him something like that:

"   Dear Senator, here at Russia, we watching closely at your attempts to preserve US power and defend interests of US citizens.

Like you know, - something big is better seen from the distance. We are at enough distance,  and we have never ceased to worry about the strength and greatness of America since 1946.

We found that some of your fellow colleague, senator Charles Shumer, found hidden, but great danger, to the US citizens, famous federal reserve, and possible - even to US government itself. He found that threat big enough to start public campaign against it, showing no trust to responsible departments.

He talking about some terrible undercover site, that trades drugs. More of that, he mentioned that only currency in use, on that dirty, god damned site, is some unnamed digital currency, that have somehow less anonymity than cash, but more than any other form of e-currency.

Well its time, to make clear who we  are, - we are group of drunken Russian peasants, that have access to internet by stolen notebook accident.

When we saw this for first time,  we did not believe. What ? US government need to start public campaign against some drug dealers ?
Their regular  departments are become impotent ?

First time when we saw something like that, was deny to  shutdown opiate farms in Afghanistan. We have the same thoughts in that time, but they are quickly disappeared, when we saw, that this decision was actually helps US government to gain more influence and power in that region (smart move by the way, -  was great to add you even more trust).

So, as mentioned above, we was drunk, when discover it (little less, than now), and we was somehow surprised. Someone even suggested that perhaps, finally, it is time to offer you, some, you know - HELP.
That was just reflective mind movement, because, everybody knows, that helping every human being in the world idea, - would stay for long in our genomes.

We decide not to do any judgments  before few "samovar" of vodka will be drunk, and some cows will be raped ( they are true girlfriends of  a drunk man), - just to, somehow, clear out our minds.

Sometime later, we figured out the true reason, concerning you colleague - Off course, that was not some stupid "drug store", that was unnamed digital currency.  What is this ? We was curious. Quick investigation opens the name of that currency to us - Bitcoins.
Like Stalin said - "That free speech, will not lead USA to anything good". He was evil bastard, but not stupid, for sure.

Then there was some pause in our discussion, because we was changing our remaining well trusted and solid US dollars to that "Bitcoins", -just to experiment with them, of course.

After some experiments, we did not find any easy way to break the Bitcoin system.

Then the abyssal horror was opened before us. That bitcoins can be transfered person to person without anybody controlling the process !
Even through borders ! No any authority's behind them, no value, -  just sum of trust of each individuals using them ! More of that - no central servers, witch can be easy controlled !
We found out that there was some debates - is that just assets, or currency, but your colleague was looking through that trash - what is asset, that is liquid, scalable, moving through the world faster than space shuttle, and gaining more and more trust ?

Charles Shumer is right, every patriotic US citizen must support him.  We are honestly believe and hoping,  that you will support his brave fight.

   Other world deserve some handicap.
Bitcoins should be banned in USA.
   That should be done fast.

370  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Senator Charles Schumer Pushes to Shut Down Online Drug Marketplace on: June 06, 2011, 08:48:43 PM
Ia am somehow surprised. Did it really needed that some senator show of, to fight  narcotics store ?
Thats usual business off corresponded departments.
No, i am think that something wrong, and his target is exactly bitcoin by itself.
Why he did not bothered with opiates farms in Afghanistan, that is under US control (if US did not lie about it, lol)  ?
371  Bitcoin / Press / Re: Bitcoin press hits, notable sources on: June 06, 2011, 07:48:38 PM
Did anybody get hands on an issue of the Fin Week https://i.imgur.com/pVAXB.png yet? If so, could you post the article(s) it?

That was a joke.
372  Economy / Economics / Re: Achieving stable prices through a reference currency on: June 06, 2011, 06:48:28 PM
When somebody refers to "futures" and "options" like to easy answer of a everyday problem of merchant and customers of say, T-shirts buisnes, -

373  Local / Новички / Re: Новичкам сюда! - FAQ on: June 06, 2011, 04:50:49 PM
374  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Open Source Internet... Soon?! on: June 06, 2011, 03:22:18 PM
There is something going on, but its hard to say how it will evolve.
example:

375  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Simpsons Climb Mt Gox!!(Vimeo/Youtube) on: June 06, 2011, 02:02:45 PM
Well, it works from Russia.
376  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why is the Russian Federation so interested in Bitcoin on: June 06, 2011, 02:20:35 AM
Russians are extremely interested:
1) Ease way to move money. Even high corruption level did not help with avoiding high taxes and fees in that field anymore. At list for regular citizens.
2) Way to save money. Instability of Ruble is known, and regular citizen have no even a bit of trust in government regulation of it. 1998 year was harsh, and will not be forgotten for next 30-50 years (next 1 or 2 generations).
2a) Russian citizens cant trust the dollar, for their savings - that paranoia is in our genome. Looks like it good practise (my own paranoia  Huh).
2b) We see, that for unknown reason Russian government trust dollar to much, and that makes us more suspicious to our government and                   dollar both. ( Russian mentality always counts government like somebody who wants to cheat you. And, of course, you should answer with cheating  government when possible, but this is another story).
2c) We cant trust in euro, because it is wired to tight with IMF (and they wired to $).
2d) We cant trust in oil prices, because oil prices are instable.
2e) We hardly can use gold, diamonds and precious metals, - they are overtaxed (Prisons here are not so comfortable).
3) Opportunity for FREE (relatively) money. Price of electricity  is steel low, relatively to European country's.
4) We just like to try something new (well, you should not be surprised - 1917, 1991 as fresh examples).
5) We are ambitious and lazy together. I am doubt that you will find any Russian immigrant  working in some dumb  house cleaning business more than 5 years after arriving in new country.

Well, there is always something else. Maybe i am mistaken somewhere. Feel free to discuss.
377  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Guiminer crashes computer on exit on: June 06, 2011, 12:59:21 AM
-f20 flag can even lag your desktop.
Try higher values (like -f50 and higher). Its also possible, that some applications are just incompatible with mining.
378  Bitcoin / Press / Re: Bitcoin press hits, notable sources on: June 06, 2011, 12:46:03 AM
Someone should invent a decentralized currency we can use so that it doesn't matter what Senators think... oh wait, nice.

I am think that is only thing that we should post to senators... Oh wait, i am not US citizen... Nice.
379  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Forum I Need help on: June 05, 2011, 11:57:54 PM
Search for "counterfit" - replace with "counterfeit". I am did not find counterfit in dictionaries.
Satoshi disappears in December 2010.
Do not use "from the future?". There is no need in that.

It seems like well planned presentation.
Be sure, that you have enough time left for questions. or enter something of this in presentation.

Questions -
0a) Open source project.
1) Deflation - is it so bad ?
2) Be familiar with concepts of two main economic schools.  Austrian and other.
3) Modular structure. SHA 256  can be replaced with other (even quantum computation resistant).
4) Attack vulnerabilities. (more than 51%  of network in one hands). Pools.
4a) Difficulty aspect.
4b) Early adopters.
4c) Ponzy scheme ?
4d) Ability to add more 0`s if needed.
4e) Mining. Mining in long perspective. Mining will not be about easy profit - it will be about job to confirm transactions.
5) Growth pains. (checkout Gavins posts). Early vulnerabilities  (luck of decentralized exchange being only in early stage project)
6) You should inspect questions of legality deeper (in light of some dumb senator request about silk road).
7) Expected behave of  the system in case of ban in some countries.
Cool Bitcoin is not more criminal than cash it self.
9) Namecoin
10) Possibility to interact between local chains (town coins).

I am found that topic to late Sad
