1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: RX 580 4Gb vs 8Gb on: February 08, 2018, 08:35:08 PM
..DAG size will continue to increase which means 4GB cards will not be able to mine ethereum after a certain period..

Is that really true? I mean the ETH DAG is bigger than 2GB now but I never felt that! Here are 2 case studies:

1. Seven months back I was new to mining ETH so I started with MinerGate as it was the easiest to start with. At the first day of my mining I noticed that after a full night (around 7 hours) of mining I spent only around 50 MB of data! Yeah, the mining started and I earned some ETH too! So clearly I mined without even downloading the full DAG. (Maybe a DAG Epoch?)
Interestingly enough, I even mined eth with MG on my laptop that has maybe 256 MB of graphics card or less when the DAG was around 2GB!! How was that possible?

2. Same thing happened when a month later I first started to mine with Claymore on Nanopool. Just few MB used per day. Till date I use Claymore on NP 24/7 and never seen the miner to download the full DAG.

So do we really need a card with memory size bigger than that of the DAG?
I guess that might be true with solo mining which I didn't waste my time trying. Enlighten me... Smiley

The DAG size wont exceed 4GB til mid to late 2020 or early 2021. By the time that comes around there will be more efficient/better cards to mine Ethereum so personally my opinion is if you are buying the cards just to mine ETH buy the cheapest 4GB 580's you can find.
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Octominer B8PLUS 8 PCIe Slot Mining Board (Motherboard, integrated CPU) on: February 08, 2018, 08:18:23 PM
All of my 1070 tis have a single 8pin connector. The PSU only has x10 6pin. Can I use a 6pin to 8+2 to power my cards? AND after ordering, I noticed the PSU on back order. How long is it going to be on back order? Will it be here when my march shipment of board comes in?

I've bought 6 pin to 8 pin connectors for mine it should be fine as modern cards especially if undervolted won't draw too much power. The PSU would definitely be ready for March batch. The only thing unlikely to come back in stock is the motherboard with the faster processor as they are having trouble purchasing those chips

What do you think about the small distance between each card ? i guess its a bad point for air circulation so for temperature.

It can be tight depending on the card. Air flow is pretty important with this compared to using risers in a more spacious rig. These fans are loud/powerful so they will do the job

Can anyone suggest a nice pool where you can mine this coin? I've been only on some scam pools and I'm sick and tired from searching ... Cry Cry

https://etn.spacepools.org/ gives me a very consistent payout and seems very stable. It's probably the best ETN pool I have used and I tried a fair few
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: February 08, 2018, 09:25:19 AM
Global hashrate is pretty big at the moment - glad it's picking up. Unfortunately the pool I use is terrible and hasnt mined a block in nearly 24 hrs.

I think XMR is hugely undervalued at the moment

Sounds highly illegal and likely to be used in fraudulent activities? I would be removing this thread if you dont want to be tagged with negative trust

How to mine with AMD GPU

Its Cryptonight algo so you can use Claymore's or plenty of other software depending on what OS your running
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: REAL NOOB DESPERATELY NEEDS HELP WITH MINING! on: February 08, 2018, 02:31:22 AM
sign up, and hash away. check out gpumining subreddit

https://www.nicehash.com/

Stay far away from nicehash.

Its what lazy people use because they dont want to maximize profits. Plus its been hacked recently and every customer lost money with them.

Not completely vouching for Nicehash as they have certainly had their issues but I think for a 1GPU user to ability to click and forget and let it mine/algo switch is the best way to go.

Pay into the nicehash wallet then payout to a coinbase address - fee free. The risk is minimal if you withdraw every few days to coinbase. I agree its 100% not worth using them to mine to an external wallet as the balance is too big to lose

Arent there plenty of datacentres that include internet/electricity that will host most miners for anywhere between $100-$150 a month? I think all these obscure idea's wont be anywhere near as competitive as that considering

No, WTF?

Most of us dont live next door to a data center much less even know of one where such is feasible. I mean Christ I live 2+ hours away from the outskirts of Atlanta, thats the closest major city near me.

This idea wont work for like 99.9999% of people.

Who said you need to live near one? The whole point is they host it and you get remote access to it 24/7 you would obviously need to ship it/drop it off to them but then that's it its not like you are going there everyday to reset the rig etc. Look at https://www.oregonmines.com/ the business model does have merit

A few months back there were mainstream datacentre's that allowed you to rent a server and you could send in a single graphics card (at your own cost) and they would allow you to mine with it on your rented server as long as you leased it for. Once the crypto profitability shot up it became a bit too much work but there certainly was such a service

The sad part is I bet they manage to sell a few even with the 5 unit MOQ. Funny how all miners are now in stock/shipping or shipping at a later date with the drop in crypto prices. Shady Bitmain tactics as usual

12  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [Group Buy] 1070ti BULK BUY straight to OEM - Commits only on: February 07, 2018, 10:02:58 AM
Yeah, i know, that is why i am asking about the revolux sponsor in particular which is OP's site as he states in 1st post.My question was whether i have to send money now to the sponsor or PoF although i think i have to send the money upfront as said in 1st post as well. Am i  getting this right ?

The details for this group buy have not been decided it's still early stages. It would be very unwise to send money to anyone at all for this group buy yet until those details are finalised.

Pick a sponsor, let them know how many you want and then they will let you know when to make payment (I highly suggest using escrow unless your sponsor is well trusted)

Hello , i have a question regarding Revolux Sponsor. I Would like to order 6 , do i have to pay upfront or just PoF now and wait for an announcement. I dont have any objection with paying now , just asking for clarification. Thanks in advance!

If your only ordering 6 you need to go through a sponsor (someone who will be purchasing a large order)
14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Octominer B8PLUS 8 PCIe Slot Mining Board (Motherboard, integrated CPU) on: February 07, 2018, 07:40:34 AM
This board going to have massive problems with hot cards! Dont forget, the hoter your gpu is the slower it works. So single Sapphiere RX 580 Nitro+ can do 32.5 Mhs with ETH at 70°C it becomes more memory errors and need to be restart or it hangs in windows same problem will be with linux. What happens if one of the this china capacitors are dead? You need to send it back and your miner stops making moneys... =( Sorry Octominer but its fail!

I prefer this mainboards http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en/mb/introduction.php?S_ID=886 and simple 008C Risers which I can change if they are dead it also cost less even with CPU and have 2-3 Years warranty.

Your asking for trouble mining at max like that with your cards personally I undervolt and save myself some heat and energy consumption.

Time will tell with these mobos but with high flow fans heat shouldn't be a problem as seen in the videos from octominer.com

The whole concept is to get away from risers which cause all sorts of issues particularly because of poor  quality control in production

The fact they only accept Crypto payment pretty much gives it away

I'm really looking forward to the news from the team. When will the testing be completed? We with the child have long a wallet on a smartphone and are waiting for mining!

Richard Ell's sent an update today:

Mobile Electroneum Miner - nearly live...
Our mobile miner has been tested by 10's of thousands of community beta testers. I'd like to say a giant THANK YOU to those people who have taken their time to help us get the product ready for millions of users. I have some great news for those beta testers... The original plan was to "reset the clock" at the end of the beta testing and start all miners at zero, but we feel that anyone who has taken the time to help us should have at least a small reward, and so we will pay out the ETN that has been mined by our betas! Thank you betas! The first payout round will be AFTER the full launch of the android miner, which we are aiming to get live for the MWC event (26th Feb).

Make sure ATI Flash is stored in your C:\ drive not in a long file path. Also store the .rom directly in the Ati Flash folder not some other location this seems to work better.

Alternatively you can try flash with the CLI it seems to work better.

Not sure about stability but I would recommend using Hive OS/SMOS/Ethos instead of windows as you will get a lot less crashes/reboots.
20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Etherum mining rig issues on: February 06, 2018, 11:58:03 PM
Not sure if it helps much but as an alternative you could try Sapphire Trixx - same sorta thing as MSI Afterburner. (http://www.sapphiretech.com/catapage_tech.asp?cataid=291&lang=eng)

I know you can control voltage without messing around with the registry/settings it just seems to work straight away.

Maybe give that a try?
