61  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: btctrinkets.com - Bitcoin niche items. on: May 13, 2013, 12:26:37 PM
Awesome work. They turned out really well and I'm very stoked that you used my work and are sending me two of them.

I made a post detailing my 3D work here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=182200.0
62  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: I made 3D renders of some Bitcoins and am here to share the images and 3D models on: May 13, 2013, 12:25:09 PM
Hey all, didn't realize this thread was still active. I have a more comprehensive thread here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=182200

Why did I do it. Just for fun actually, just recently started using Blender and though it would be nice to try and create this. They were quite popular on r/bitcoin and I got some nice tips so I continued. I also did a few commissioned jobs which paid in Bitcoin.

Not quite sure how long it took to make them. Quite a few hours.

I'm really stoked that Isokivi made physical forms of them, never expected it to happen. He's even sending two of them to me for free Smiley
63  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Tip any website with everywhereium on: May 03, 2013, 02:02:14 AM
For that don't have the tipping enabled I would think you could implement a similar system as the tipbot uses. However how do you notify the admins to tell them that somebody tipped them? Maybe if you try tipping a site without the meta-data the extension could ask you for an email address connected to the site. The tipper could then search the contact section to find it. Maybe a better solution would be to have the option to generate a unique URL, if necessary with password protection, that you could mail (or enter into a contact form) and the receiver could follow instructions on how to claim the tip. If you have the option of generating a unique URL you could also use this as a general way of tipping online, for example you could send the link via Facebook message, IRC, forums, basically to anyone online you can reach privately.

I really like this idea, hope you can find the right people to make and implement it.

Which Bitcoin logo? https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Promotional_graphics

The Illustrator files are here: https://bitcointalk.org/?topic=1756.0
65  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Encrypted wallet.dat, lost password, any solutions? on: May 02, 2013, 04:54:00 PM
Great work going on in this thread, very nice to see you've been able to help people recover lost coins!

I was curious regarding the memory limit, is it necessary to store all possibilities in an array? If the number of possibilities is larger than the memory can contain, couldn't you simply remember the step the password generator algorithm is at, then test all the passwords, wipe the array and restart the password generator algorithm at the remembered point. In this way memory would never be limiting, only the time you're willing to wait.
Also couldn't you apply this method to speed up the cracking in some cases? You generate smaller arrays and test each one as it's finished before generating the next one. This way your script could already return a correct result if the right answer is contained in one of the earlier arrays.
66  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-05-02 Khan Academy: How Bitcoin Works (Video series) on: May 02, 2013, 04:25:31 PM
Very nice and clear explanation. I wonder if Bitcoin experts have found any faults in it?
67  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Update on my Bitcoin CGI work, free to use for promotion or commercially on: April 26, 2013, 08:30:29 PM
I made an avatar for Bitcointalk user cypherdoc

It's too bad I couldn't fix the rough edges around the coin for him. But this is a limitation of the GIF format, you only have transparent or non-transparent pixels, there is no gradient possible.

And I also made an avatar for myself as you can see  Grin

Next I'll go work on a Tron coin when I have the time, unless someone else has a request.

Tron coins, seems like a good challenge.
70  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Press center on the website - looking for volunteers on: April 21, 2013, 05:27:15 PM
Do you have a link to that render, I'm quite curious. I don't know what a 'pull req'  is, so I guess I'm not familiar enough with it Smiley
71  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Update on my Bitcoin CGI work, free to use for promotion or commercially on: April 21, 2013, 01:42:48 PM
I just discovered Sketchfab, this allows you to upload 3D models so others can see them interactively. Here they are: http://skfb.ly/5lji32dca
72  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Update on my Bitcoin CGI work, free to use for promotion or commercially on: April 21, 2013, 01:16:22 PM
Thanks Nova. They took quite some work, but probably less than you expect. The hard surface modelling is something I've been learning and the tools Blender offers to aid it are quite good. Once you got the models, materials, and lighting nicely set up, it's really the power of the Cycles render engine that makes it look realistic. Many people with CGI skills would point out that they are not very realistic as they are missing grime and scratches real coins would have, they are too perfect. To do a good job at that requires advanced texturing skills which I'm not really that proficient in, and besides I actually like them to look perfect Smiley

The "a beautiful 3D rendering of a Bitcoin posted to reddit" you refer to may have been my work. I've made more work and it's all freely available (including 3D models) for promotional or commercial work. I've detailed all the renderings here if people are interested: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=182200.0
It's in the Project Development subforum. Maybe it could get some more exposure if I posted it in this forum, or is cross-posting frowned upon?

Some of my work already made it to a few articles.

Maybe some of the works could be shared on Press section of the Bitcoin.org website if people think the quality is good enough.
74  Bitcoin / Project Development / Bitcoin 3D renders - Free to use as wallpaper, for promotion, or commercially on: April 21, 2013, 11:43:01 AM
I'm moving over to the bitco.in forum and will not be updating this thread anymore. I wonder if this will make theymos ban me here...

https://bitco.in/forum/threads/bitcoin-artwork-free-for-all-use.82/

---------------------------------------------

I showed off some Bitcoin related CGI work in the past and it was well received. I've been working on some more designs and like to share them with you. Everything was made in Blender, which is free and open source. First the old designs for those who haven't seen them yet:

Here is the first work I posted and it got a positive response. After this I made some more close-up shots of the coins finally resulting in this massive 3840x2160 image.

Some details on the features of the coin designs; the 1 coin has a p2p network on the front side and the binary on the rim spells "Bitcoin". The 5 coin has a "block-chain" on the front side and "Vires in Numeris" on the rim. You can explore the models in 3D here: http://skfb.ly/5lji32dca

One of the most frequent critiques I got was that Bitcoins aren't really a physical thing so it should look more digital. I understand that and took that to heart so the first thing I made after that was a coin-wireframe integration. Here and here.

Here is a fully digital Bitcoin, still a bit of a work in progress though.

A tron inspired scene.

My most recent work was trying to visualize the magnitude of 100,000,000 Satoshi=1 BTC (Click to enlarge!)

Here is the complete album with of all renders so far in high resolution.

I've also made some animation experiments with falling Bitcoins, and the digital bitcoin glowing and rotating (need to watch in HD to really see it). These are just tests though, as with my current rig rendering full high quality animations isn't really feasible.

Finally I made some Litcoins and Bitcoins on commission, which my client allowed me to share.

All the work above has a CC0 license, so free for all use even without credits, though tips are very much appreciated of course. So if anyone is feeling generous or wants to use them and give me something even though they are free, you are very welcome to do so at: 1BmSFrbDDYT46W6aLpRNk72yA57RvkJgDP or http://cybrbeast.tip.me

Some of my work has shown up in some articles and sites already. My wallpapers are also available at CoinDL on a 'Pay What You Want' pricing if you want to support my work: https://www.coindl.com/page/author/604

I've also made the 3D models of the coins available for those who know how to use them. I use blender. For people without Blender I've also exported Collada and OBJ files. They are available at CoinDL on a 'Pay What You Want' pricing, i.e. free if you don't want to pay.
https://www.coindl.com/page/item/1052 (Here is a direct download link)

Isokivi who runs btctrinkets also used my design to make physical coins stamped out of metal (no Bitcoin value, just nice objects), I've got a pair and I think they turned out great, nice and big and heavy.

I hope you guys enjoy the work.

I also made my avatar, and one for cypherdoc (these are obviously not free to use for everyone). Here is a Bitcoin/Litecoin spinner.

You can get prints here (can pay in Bitcoin).

Great to see my work featured like that! Credits are appreciated, but feel free to remove them if you want to clean up the interface.
76  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: I made 3D renders of some Bitcoins and am here to share the images and 3D models on: March 31, 2013, 08:40:53 AM
Does anyone know of a way to get my renderings to the media? I saw this article which includes a rendering bought on Shutterstock and I think you'll agree my ones look better, and they are free too.
77  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: I made 3D renders of some Bitcoins and am here to share the images and 3D models on: March 30, 2013, 06:56:53 PM
I made a test animation of falling bitcoins using my model: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d99dLbM4eGY

The quality of the images is not nearly as good as the stills because I had to use a different render engine to keep the render times down. Rendering with the same quality as the stills would only be viable if I had an Nvidia GPU because it speeds up the engine enormously. Too bad it can't make use of my powerful Radeon. Planning on buying a new GPU soon though.

If I have some spare time I'll try to improve the physics and look of the animation and make it longer with more coins Smiley
78  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: I made 3D renders of some Bitcoins and am here to share the images and 3D models on: March 29, 2013, 11:13:50 PM
Thanks JackRabiit, two people from r/bitcoin already approached me for some coin renders and paid me in Bitcoin Smiley

yucca, I hadn't even thought of milling. Could look great indeed, will look into it.
79  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: I made 3D renders of some Bitcoins and am here to share the images and 3D models on: March 29, 2013, 10:05:37 PM
rpietila, I understand and I think those prices are very good. However I don't feel like going through the logistics of getting such an order shared by many people together. But I gave my models away, so anyone who feels up to the challenge is more than welcome to have them made, please send me a couple though Smiley

yucca, sure you can use them, that's one of the reasons I made this post. Our networks do look similar Smiley
Rendering a different aspect ratio of a shot should be easy, which shot did you have mind? Changing the composition takes more effort.
80  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: I made 3D renders of some Bitcoins and am here to share the images and 3D models on: March 29, 2013, 08:28:31 PM
That's pretty cool. Would have to get a lot of people together to place an order like that though, because 10,000 coins is a bit much for me. Doing a Scrooge McDuck into the coins would be fun, if not painful, though Smiley
