21  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: 2x5870 Win 7 64bit - cannot overclock on: June 10, 2011, 08:34:32 PM
Problem solved, I had no idea about having to use dummy plugs. I've got'em crossfired for now until I decide to use a dummy plug or switch over to Linux.

Thanks for your help.

MSI 890FXA-GD70 890FX Socket AM3 8 Channel HD Audio Gigabit Lan ATX Motherboard
XFX 850W Power Supply
AMD Sempron 140 2.70GHz (Socket AM3) Processor
Corsair Value 2GB (1x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz

I'll experiment with 1 card and see how it goes.

I'm assuming I should be getting 800+ MH/s out of these two together. Is that correct?

My solo 5870 is pulling 410+ on a really old system.

Btw, their not crossfired. Is it worth me crossfiring them?
23  Bitcoin / Mining / 2x5870 Win 7 64bit - cannot overclock on: June 10, 2011, 06:38:26 PM
Hey guys,

I have a single XFX 5870 on another machine and it overclocks fine.

I've got a new mining rig hooked up with 2 5870's and I cannot get past 900mhz on the core clock.

What's strange is that after editing the msi afterburner cfg to allow me to do this, this is what I see :

Whatever changes I make is not applied.

I've tried different SDK, Catalyst and MSIafterburner versions.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

Thanks

That's like watching a football game. Then thinking damn, if only I had placed a bet on Team A winning, I would have got $$$$$.

In other words, it's completely retarded.

It's pure speculation. It could drastically drop next month, or dramatically rise. No one really knows. That's the reason why you didn't invest before. The same still applies right now, else you'd be buying as many BTC as you can get your hands on right?

Count yourself lucky, there have been guys who found out about BTC mining a long time ago and have binned thousands of BTC because at the time it was worthless. So they've potentially lost hundreds of thousands of dollars.

After all the talk about deepbit, I attempted to use btcguild and it was terrible in comparison.

There's a reason why I use deepbit, it simply works.
26  Bitcoin / Mining / Adding an additional GPU - need your help on: June 08, 2011, 07:23:43 PM
Hey guys,

I'm running a single 5870 on a micro-ATX motherboard, this one to be specific : G31M-ES2L.

http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3485#ov

It has :

    1 x PCI Express x16 slot
    1 x PCI Express x1 slot
    2 x PCI slots

If I get a x1 PCI Express Riser Card and upgrade my PSU from a 550w to 1000w, can I run 2x5870? The OS it's running on is WinXP 32bit.

Thanks for your help!

I'm now getting 405 mh/s on my 5870 @ 975/300 at stock voltage since the miners have been updated.

Tycho,

Have you seen the new phoenix miner? Any suggested settings for that for your pool please?

It's boosted my MH/s by a lot but I've noticed the stale rate has risen quite a bit  Undecided
29  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: 5870 running at 421 mHash/sec! on: April 27, 2011, 08:40:23 AM
I've gone from 360 mh/s to 405 mh/s.

I've got one of those XFX cards which unfortunately you cannot overvolt Sad

Running at 975 core, 300 mem.

Thanks for the info.
30  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Building computer for mining, bought these. Advice? on: April 13, 2011, 12:06:46 PM
You have a lot of unnecessary equipment for a dedicated mining machine imo. Also, when you factor in electricity cost and mining difficulty increasing I'd be interested to know how long it would take for you to eventually generate enough BTC to cover the cost of your equipment. I'd guess 9 months if it's running 24/7.

Moved the machine into another room, overclocked the core to 970 currently getting 360 MH/s and temps have been holding at 69c over night. First night of mining I got real lucky and woke up to 50 BTC. Second night, nothing at all. I'm thinking of hoping into a mining pool. Solo mining feels a bit meh.

XFX 5870 here

I dropped the memory clock to 300.

Mh/s is holding at 336 now where as before it was fluctuating from 330. My temp appears to have dropped by 5c. I'll do more testing but it's looking good so far.

Hey guys,

I got my 5870 today.

Using the GUI miner by Kiv.

OSWin7 x64
Cat 11.3
SDK v2.4
Mem 900 Mhz
Mh/s 330-6
Flags -v -w128

Readings from the catalyst control center : temp 74c, activity 98%, fan speed 70%.

Hey guys,

I got my 5870 today.

Using the GUI miner by Kiv.

OSWin7 x64
Cat 11.3
SDK v2.4
Mem 900 Mhz

I'm pulling in 330 Mhash/s on average at the moment. Tends to bounce around from 328-336.

It's been going for about an hour and the temperature reading from the catalyst control center is 74c, activity 98%, fan speed 70%.

I'm using the following flags : -v -w128

Looking from the hardware comparison table I should be able to pull out some more, possibly up to 350. Do you think those kinds of results are only possible on a dedicated box running Linux? I'm not sure whether to downgrade the SDK to 2.1/2.2 to test it though. Also heard people were having problems with the GUI miner on 2.1, thoughts?
