121  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: restoring bitcoins with secure-print on: January 21, 2018, 09:14:21 PM
droark asked why are you bothering with armoryd (armoryd.py), not Armory as a whole Smiley

Have you completed this part of the readme, titled Running Armory?
I'm not sure downgrading to a less secure OS version is going to help.
122  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory installation issues on: January 21, 2018, 04:35:17 PM
I did back up the wallet and I have the address I sent the bitcoin too. But this bitcoin core download is now over 36hrs. It just keeps going slower and slower. I have down loaded 83% but with the progress increase speed down to 0.4% I don't think it will ever finish.
Yes, it takes quite a while for first sync. 165GB of data, as well as some cpu time for verification, I think. As long as the block count keeps increasing, it is is working.

While you're waiting, you probably want to check you can restore your wallet backup in Armory. Having the address won't help without that.
123  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: About Armory and the blockchain on: January 21, 2018, 04:32:51 PM
This ressource says nothinng about the "Bitcoin Install Dir" option within Armory. What exactly, do I have to enter into the field (in order to use bitcoind)?
Install dir is the directory that has bitcoin-qt.exe inside it. I'm getting the impression you are on linux, though?
Blank should find it if installed properly, but yeah bitcoin-qt and bitcoind are in bin on linux.
We can't give you an exact path because setups vary, dude, and you aren't giving us much info here about yours.
124  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: I haven't received my bitcoins on: January 20, 2018, 02:49:05 PM
When I try to export the keys armory ask me about passphrase. What does it mean.

And Exodus speakabout error by Non-base 58 character?

Greetings
When you made your Armory wallet, you encrypted it with a password. You need to use that.
125  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory + Bitcoin Core GUI doesn't work, Armory + bitcoind does ??? - Win10 x64 on: January 20, 2018, 03:42:45 AM
Having listen=1 seems to work with the GUI, but then drastically ramps up the bandwidth requirements. Undecided I'm still unsure as to why the GUI needs listen=1, but bitcoind does not... very curious. Huh
So with just that added you get to the green connected state? No RPC issues?

The GUI is there to act as a wallet and a node, together, and so it doesn't need to open itself up to anything external (including other processes on the same computer) in order to function usefully.
In contrast bitcoind is a daemon - daemons are headless and work in the background. If it didn't accept incoming connections or some form of external input by default, whether that be via bitcoin-cli or RPC, it wouldn't serve a useful function.
That is my understanding of it, at least.
126  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory no online? on: January 20, 2018, 03:20:25 AM
Pinned thread for 0.96.4 RC3
127  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory installation issues on: January 20, 2018, 02:43:36 AM
Please try Armory 0.96.3.992 (RC3)
You also need to download and install Bitcoin Core.

And I just noticed there are no wallets in your Armory...

re the bitcoin.conf file changes

this is the one with the rpcuser stuff in it?

and is that IP address universal or specific to your case?

Please forgive my ignorance.
Yes.
127.0.0.1 is localhost - your local computer, so universal Smiley
129  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory + Bitcoin Core GUI doesn't work, Armory + bitcoind does ??? - Win10 x64 on: January 19, 2018, 09:53:49 PM
Consider using addnode=127.0.0.1 in your node .conf. If your node fills up its default incoming slots, it may just kick ArmoryDB out as it identifies itself as basically a useless node.
Would whitelist=127.0.0.1 be better, perhaps? Not sure if that'd really help keep a slot open for it, though.
Using addnode=127.0.0.1 unfortunately has the side effect of Core constantly trying to connect to itself. Might be benign, but does flood the logs.

Incidentally, I set up a Windows 10 x64 VM, for testing, given that we've had what looks like a trend of issues on Win 10.
As is the case with HCP... bitcoind connects and plays nice once everything is up to date. When running bitcoin-qt manually the best I can get is Connected, but Armory thinks the RPC server is down. I can run the usual RPC commands with bitcoin-cli, which suggests the RPC server is, in fact available? (And it is enabled in bitcoin.conf).
Doesn't seem to be down to any internal firewalling, and it is running 0.96.4 RC3 and Core 0.15.1, of course.

I'm not wanting to confuse and hijack the thread - I don't need this Win10 VM to work - but think there is a common issue here.

131  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: cannot fully sync; used v0.90-beta to create wallets on: January 19, 2018, 09:15:41 PM
sorry, i dont know how to turn off auto management.  i searched, but to no avail.  wasnt being, lazy Smiley
In Armory: File > Settings.
On the general tab, uncheck "Let Armory run Bitcoin Core/bitcoind in the background". Then save.
Close down Armory. Check Task manager and kill bitcoind or armorydb if they are there.

Start up C:\Program Files\Bitcoin\bitcoin-qt.exe
Any error messages? Is it catching up?
132  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: restoring bitcoins with secure-print on: January 19, 2018, 09:07:46 PM
the easiest way to access in mac is Go To Folder under Go menu and type ~/Library

I also get Python quit unexpectedly. error dialogue.
I couldn't find dblog.txt  Shocked
Here is armorylog.txt

Thanks, so much

Oof. That Armory version is quite old. Usual procedure is to upgrade to RC3 if possible, and given the older versions you'll want to delete /Users/gransar/Library/Application Support/Armory/databases/

Running a more recent version of Bitcoin Core, I hope? Smiley
133  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Using Armory on the BCH chain on: January 19, 2018, 03:23:50 PM
thanks droark

I hope this is a more appropriate venue than squawking at you in IRC

alas, still "node offline" after killing DB and restarting

Tried ABC 0.16.1 as per the below?

Spent quite a long time with bitcoin-abc-0.16.2 and armory 0.96.3.991 and trying to get it to work.

This combo throws in the bitcoind log.
2018-01-04 21:34:48 PROCESSMESSAGE: INVALID MESSAGESTART version peer=0

However, bitcoin-abc-0.16.1 and armory 0.96.3.991 allows the connection to happen:
2018-01-05 07:11:02 receive version message: [127.0.0.1:34586] Armory:0.96.3.991: version 70012, blocks=-1, us=127.0.0.1:8333, peer=0

Just a heads up to others. I believe something changed in the bitcoin-abc repo around 12/3/2017 surrounding this PROCESSMESSAGE output.
134  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory + Bitcoin Core GUI doesn't work, Armory + bitcoind does ??? - Win10 x64 on: January 19, 2018, 03:19:49 PM
I'd try adding "listen=1" to your bitcoin.conf
135  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: cannot fully sync; used v0.90-beta to create wallets on: January 19, 2018, 03:37:49 AM
hi, wondering if you had any update on this.  i'm willing to erase everything and start again, or whatever other advice you might have for me.
thanks!
If droark doesn't get back to you, could you post your logs again? I remember trying to access them when you first posted, but it seems like cryptbin just hangs on your link.
You could try splitting the log manually into a few pastes and adding to pastebin... or separate dblog.txt and armorylog.txt pastes (They'll be in the same directory as your Armory databases subfolder, unless you've changed that)
136  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: restoring bitcoins with secure-print on: January 18, 2018, 11:22:23 PM
Thanks for the insight. I used caffeinate command on mac to prevent sleeping and were able to complete the ledger download. However now the armory crashes. I tried the brew command and have read so much of the threads.. Should I revert to an older version
Huh
 Cry
No, but posting your log files will likely help.
Not a mac user, but I assume they live in ~/.armory  or somewhere similar.
Add dblog.txt and armorylog.txt to pastebin (or a site of your choice) and post the links here, please.
137  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Upgrade information needed on: January 18, 2018, 10:48:12 PM
The bitcoin core error message indicated a corrupted database. It prompted me to let it rebuild the database, so I am rebuilding it. Is that the right procedure?
That would probably explain why your block count has been stuck.
Yes, generally the right thing to do, though will take some time. If you open up "D:\BTC datadir 96-2\debug.log" and look at the end of the file you should be able to see how it is progressing.
138  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Upgrade information needed on: January 18, 2018, 08:42:57 PM
error: Specified data directory "D:\BTC" does not exist.
Is it possible that a different version of bitcoin-qt is running? Maybe it isn't running at all. I wouldn't be surprised if the db hasn't been updated in some time.

Sorry, that should have been:
Code:
"C:\Program Files\Bitcoin\bitcoin-qt.exe" -datadir="D:\BTC datadir 96-2"

Usually bitcoind is run from Armory, instead of bitcoin-qt, to update the blockchain. Something has been going wrong down the line there. Hoping that running qt manually on that directory will tell us more.
139  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Upgrade information needed on: January 18, 2018, 07:12:57 PM
Is it possible that I'm not syncing up to the network correctly? After the upgrade, the error message is that the node is offline. I increased the fee to 1100 s/Byte with the same result.
I did upgrade the watching node to 0.96.3.992
Going on your logs, you have a few issues. Increasing the fee isn't going to help if your Armory can't communicate with the network.
If I'm reading this right:
The Bitcoin blockchain and chainstate is downloaded to D:\BTC datadir 96-2\ (blocks and chainstate subfolder)
Armory is installed to D:\BTC datadir 96-2\Armory\

While it could work as is, nesting these folders is not a great idea. Please consider moving/reinstalling Armory outside this directory.

Unless you've fixed it you recently starting passing in this to Armory (As part of a shortcut?):
Code:
-- datadir=d:\btc datadir 96-2\
This is incorrect. Space between "--" and "datadir", and as far as I understand it, d:\btc datadir 96-2\ is your satoshi/bitcoin data directory, not your datadir (armory). Did you mean to pass it to Bitcoin Core?

From further back in your logs Armory has been scanning the blocks in D:\BTC datadir 96-2\blocks and can't find any more after #494345.
Are you sure Bitcoin Core has got an up to date copy of the blockchain in D:\BTC datadir 96-2\blocks ? Also saw a reference to D:\Bitcoin? A backup/original copy?

Close down Armory, check task manager for bitcoind and armorydb (kill them if they are there).
Then run this, please:
Code:
"C:\Program Files\Bitcoin\bitcoin-qt.exe" -datadir=D:\BTC datadir 96-2\
Bitcoin Core should open up. Wait for it to load then go to Help -> Debug window.
On the "Information" tab, what does it say next to "Current Number of blocks" ? If it isn't 504876 or higher, that copy of the blockchain is not up to date.
140  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: how to recover bitcoin forks with armory wallet? on: January 18, 2018, 03:32:50 PM
hi again

i ve tried to understand how to use it but failed

is there any other safe and simple method by exporting the private keys and to import it in a the forks wallet?

any help would be apreciated

Cheers
The usual procedure is to move your BTC to a new Armory Wallet (not just a new address). Let the transaction(s) confirm a few times.
Then export private keys for those now empty addresses. Import into the forks. Send to an exchange or wherever.
Basic rule being: Don't expose your private keys while there is BTC on them.
