1  Bitcoin / Project Development / BitVendor Fund Raising on: April 07, 2013, 01:37:49 AM
Hey Everyone,

I just noticed that the BitVendor project is doing some fund raising on Indiegogo to finish the project. The project seems interesting so I thought I'd share the fund raiser.

I'd like to be released from the new member restriction. I've used Bitcoin for a while now (over a year), have purchased products with it, evangelized it, and am currently working with several local businesses to implement Bitcoin payments. I'm not a lost newbie and would love to be able to fully participate in the community.

Ok so I have this thought that maybe the feds are buying up a lot of bitcoins.

as you all know the Federal Reserve Bank has NOTHING to do with the federal government, they are a wholly separate entity that makes these pieces of paper (dollers) in exchange for the governments little pieces of paper (bonds) and these bonds are a promise of repayment WITH interest. so this small groupe of people known as the fed res are in control of the money supply. government doesn't really like it but I wont get in to that here, they do like taxes though. so im thinking (obviously) that the feds do not like this new money, they hate it actually, so they get a couple hundred people and there job is to buy up a lot of bitcoins. but not all at once. maybe a few hundred thousand here and a few thousand there, do this for days and days and weeks and make a few dumps along the way but soon enough they will have an incredible amount of coins and they will dump sell them so fast it will cause a panic sell. they will keep doing this till everyone want out of this horrible up down market.

Just a thought. - they know about bitcoin, they dont like bitcoin, they are doing something right now about bitcoin, they will stop at nothing to destroy bitcoin.

what do you think- how else might this play out?

I'm not sure the Federal Reserve really cares about Bitcoin yet (although the Cyprus situation might change that) but you can bet that agencies like the FBI and CIA do. Because of the potential for anonymous exchange, it's the perfect currency to pay informants. Additionally, it wouldn't surprise me if governments are using it to pay double agents. Again, the potential for anonymity makes it perfect.

So yes, I believe the feds are buying Bitcoin. Maybe not to destroy it but to use it to their ends.

Thank you for all the information. I will put it to use.

BTW, can you give a simple explanation of what PGP is and how to use it? And do you have any recommendations for related freeware? Thanks.

PGP is strong encryption software. Think military grade encryption. It allows you to encrypt emails and files in such a way that they are theoretically unbreakable. It uses the concept of a private and a public key. You give your public key to everyone so they can encrypt stuff to you but whatever is encrypted to you can only be decrypted by your private key (which you protect with a passphrase and your freaking life!)

There is an open source version of PGP canned GnuPG (or GPG for short). It functions the same as PGP and can even read PGP generated files (and vice versa).

Related software you should look into is Keepass (open source, secure password storage), Tor (open source, anonymity software), TrueCrypt (open source, drive or file encryption).

Advice: if you are serious about security, do not use ANY program that relates to security and is not open source. You simply can't know what it's doing and it may compromise your security.

HTH,

Hello Fellow Bitcoiners,

I'm a new member of the forum but a long time user of Bitcoin. Totally excited about where the currency seems to be going and evangelizing it like crazy to friends and family.

Anyway, just wanted to take the time to introduce myself. I'm CypherPunk, a 30something software developer, privacy and anonymity consultant, and human rights activist. I adhere to the CypherPunk ideals of old: privacy and anonymity empower people and 'cypherpunks write code'.

Looking forward to getting to know everyone. If anyone needs anything, feel free to touch base.
