1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SERRACOIN OFFICIALLY LAUNCHED (SRR) NOW ON bittrex.comĦĦĦ on: April 03, 2014, 02:14:09 AM
hello guys, im the dev of SerraCoin, I want to apologize because i didnt announce that we were shutingdown this coin. I asked to Bittrex to remove SerraCoin from their Page the same day we Shutted down, (it was 2 days after the launch), The main problem was (as you can imagine) with block 800 we needed to make a Fork, and we (our team) felt that it was too early to make a fork, and even that, we had a very awful launch.

We didnt scam you, SerraCoin didnt even have Value in Bittrex, it was up for only a few hours till the Pools reached Block 800.

My Apologize for this situation. SerraCoin is dead we are not developing or working anymore. it was just a bad launch with a bad code.

Thanks asshat, you're a fucking idiot and wasted a lot of people's valuable mining power.

cant they just fix it would like to hear from the devs either way. dont care if they continue or not or they just scammed everyone very well it only traded on bittrex. bittrex should freeze their account or something or release their details email address at least so people can at least say ffffffffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuu to them

I'm pretty sure bittrex already took it off. The founder of the coin, Ivan,  hasn't been seen in days. The entire Serracoin website is offline, but some basic info can be seen here http://who.is/whois/serracoin.org

The pool I mined on straight up disappeared. If this coin isn't already considered dead, I think I will need the word dead redefined.

serra.poolnetwork.org is now completely gone and for sale by godaddy. Does ANYBODY know who was running that site? I have 500 of these useless things in that fucking pool.

What a fucking garbage coin. Should have never wasted my time on it.

You would be better off mining PopcornCoin at this point...  and that isn't saying much!

I actually premined some popcorn coin last night! Shh, don't tell anyone! It was delicious! Grin

Bittrex looks like it hasn't been trading SRR for an entire day, I solved the last block on serra.poolnetwork.org and everything froze after that to this point, YET PEOPLE ARE STILL MINING THERE, and I haven't even downloaded a wallet yet because of all the problems people are having.

What a fucking garbage coin. Should have never wasted my time on it.

The dev hasn't been online in nearly 24 hours, I think this coin is dead.
6  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Ubuntu 12.04 vs 10.04 for Dedicated Wallet Rig on: November 08, 2013, 07:41:26 PM
Hi everyone,

I'm trying to make a computer that will use either 12.04 or 10.04 to host a Virtual Windows 7 machine for Cryptocurrency wallets (BTC, LTC, and MEC). The Virtual Box image will be in a Truecrypt archive on the Ubuntu hard drive, which will be encrypted using the built in Ubuntu drive encryption software. Basically, should I use 12.04 or 10.04 for this? I'm thinking 10.04 because it is less resource hungry.

Thanks

So the link I gave you don't work?
No, I couldn't get it to work.

I won't be online again until later this evening so no rush on getting a link to me.
Try this please
https://db.tt/SRJ6C5Hs

Success! I'll send you like 10 MEC once I get everything set up!

Try this link
https://mega.co.nz/#!UUZBSaga!I8VhQYdotks1cGLvTbmk_Jvc3R4zHHtbOOylcpqXKQQ

Tried this on 3 computers, with Firefox and Chrome.

Computer 1: (Win7)
Chrome gets to 100% downloaded, then does nothing.
Firefox gets to 100% downloaded, then pops up "Firefox can't find the file at blob:fd4a2c02-792f-437b-99ac-7ce92969231d."

Computer 2: (XP)
Same results as computer 1, but this is my work computer that I am remotely accessing. Different ISP and roughly 5 miles away.
Also tried to download from SourceForge but got same results as before.

Computer 3: (Win7)
Perpetually stuck waiting for Firefox to "Allow" the file storage on my laptop.

Anyone got a Mediafire link?

What link are you using I will test also

The download link here gives me issues
http://sourceforge.net/projects/megacoin/

As well as the installer link here
http://sourceforge.net/projects/megacoin/files/?source=navbar

I was just able to download the source files, but I still get that the server has been reset for the .exe

I'm having issues downloading the MEC wallet. When I go to the SourceForge download page and it tries to begin the download, it just says that the page has been reset. Downloads for Bitcoin and NovaCoin still work (from SourceForge). I have tried 2 different computers at my house and this problem began last night when I first tried to download it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If problem persists I will try to download the file through either a Linux computer or I will remote into my computer at work and then just resend it to myself, but I have a feeling it is a file error over at SourceForge.

Thanks.

14  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bit Potato - Hottest bits since the potato!! on: May 01, 2013, 05:48:31 PM
So far this morning, I have clicked on at least 2 different potatoes that were supposedly available in order to buy it, and then nothing happened. I tried several more times, and eventually the potato becomes listed as "Waiting for payment". Is somebody else just beating me to it, or am I doing something wrong here?

Also, "Make your payment to the address we send you. (Add Transaction Fees!)" how is this address sent to us? Does it just popup on the screen?

EDIT: Ah, now I see. Looks like people have just been relentlessly spamming the buy buttons.
15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / [LTC] Browser Miner Other That litecoinpool's? on: April 04, 2013, 07:03:10 AM
I'm looking for a browser miner other than litecoinpool's since they're not currently accepting new members. I've got about 90 computers where I work that are just sitting there for 14/24 hours and I wouldn't mind putting them to work mining LTC, and a browser based miner is the only real option at the moment.

Thanks in advance!
16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [C3] Coin Brainstorming / Ideas / Proposals thread on: April 04, 2013, 06:44:09 AM
Re: Automated checkpoints would make it centralized. We definitely will have checkpoints with each update through.

Also, what are your thoughts on "quicker blocks versus less storage for blockchain"? I don't think we need to continue the "litecoin is silver to gold" - I like a monetary base of around 20 million or even less.

With the quicker blocks vs storage, maybe make it so that each new wallet would have the option to go back maybe 2 checkpoints instead of to the beginning of the blockchain, with the possibility of deleting data earlier than 2 checkpoints ago when new checkpoints are reached. In addition to that, have a second option to include ALL blockchain history. With the first option, the client would take up significantly less space over time, but users could still keep a complete history if they wanted to by choosing the second option.

I agree that 20 mil is probably a better base. Making it the copper or platinum equivalent would make it easier for some to understand, but it's not necessary at all.
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [C3] Coin Brainstorming / Ideas / Proposals thread on: April 04, 2013, 06:05:17 AM
Here are my brainstorming ideas I've had over the past few days. I had the old foundation thread open since this morning, posted in it, and THEN I saw this thread. I just went and deleted my other post and decided to bring it here.

Quote
I remember reading something about protecting a coin from a 51% attack by bookmarking the blockchain before the attack started. What if this new chain had automatic, even hourly, bookmarks/checkpoints. Should someone start up a 51% attack, just wait until it's over and revert to before the attack started.

One of the things that has made Litecoin so popular is the quick transaction confirmations. I think a new coin should be able to match or even beat LTC. (Maybe 2 minute intervals instead of LTC's 2.5?)

I think it should definitely be a more CPU-friendly coin. A lot of computers come with nicer dedicated graphics now, but higher end cards still blow these out of the water. If a GPU friendly coin was launched, it could easily be taken over by current BTC miners or ASICs. CPU-friendly coins more or less level the playing field, but, as mentioned, are vulnerable to botnet attacks. This is where the checkpoint system comes into play.

I don't know if a checkpoint system is the definitive answer to 51% attack protection, but there should be some sort of way to protect from 51% attacks. The coin I was thinking about looking into developing I wanted to call APC, or ArmoredCoin, or something along those lines, signifying it's strength and protection.

As for the amount issued, maybe follow this example: BTC is gold, LTC is silver, this new coin could be the copper equivalent. Issue 10x total amount relative to Bitcoins, and then make these coins worth 1/10th of a BTC once they become established.

I had a few other ideas, but this is all that comes to mind at the moment.
18  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [NEW CURRENCY] Maria 2.0 was banned, here is her proof. The birth of Bytecoin! on: April 03, 2013, 06:25:54 PM
I was solo mining overnight and have 11 accepted shares, but hours later I haven't received anything? I've been using GUI miner.

When you solo mine there is no definite reward, at least for a while. Solo Mining differs from Pool Mining in that you are trying to generate a block on your own, so instead of being paid for each share you generate (As in Pool Mining - Generally the reward of a block is split up between many miners based on the amount of shares they have submitted), you are only paid when you generate a valid block, and the difficulty has risen a lot since yesterday on the bytecoin network, so this would be quite a feat without a lot of hashing power (e.g. a few GH/s).

TL;DR You would probably be better off pool mining (If you don't have vast amounts of hashing power)

Ok, thanks. This is my first time mining without a pool, and I didn't expect shares to be accepted unless they were new blocks. I'll probably just keep solo mining then until a reliable pool pops up.
