after some testing it seems that when the sapphire ref cards get too hot the MH/s drops from around 31.5 or 30 (depends on card) to around 27-22MH/s and keeps on throttelling and jumping all around the place.
since now its winter here in germany, this isnt such a big problem for me, but i plan to take the rig with me to a much hotter country in the summer and im afraid this will be far from ideal setup.
also im currently using some XFX rx 480 8gb RS, where i just copied a memory strap. they seem to run stable at 28mh/s even when the sapphire cards start to throttle. so i believe they will be the right choise for me for the long run. also im about to get one sapphire NITRO+ 480 8gb card and try to flash and OC it like some guy on youtube did to get like 30.5 MH/s.
question is, any of you guys are living in hot climate regions or simply run your rig in a hot poorly ventilated place? i would be interested to know what you think about the optimal setup for such places Roll Eyes

i asked because i read this : https://blog.ethereum.org/2016/11/18/hard-fork-no-4-spurious-dragon/where he says to get the ethereum/mist wallet 0.8.7, but its exactly the one i've been using so far.. weird thing that happened is that it started syncing from the start yesterday.. dont know why. about the pool. maybe thats why dwarfpool was dows for some time yesterday? so am i all set or do i need to do any changes? still confused) The latest wallet that you have is auto downloading new clients when needed (eth/geth) so you don't have to worry about forks & updates thank you. so also this new ether will be getting its own name on wallets and exchange sites? such as ETC then ETH and now CETH?

confused.
so ethereum just forked right? do we need to change something in the bat file or what?
fork = client change. So you need to update your wallet, but for mining, this is taken care by your pool operator i asked because i read this : https://blog.ethereum.org/2016/11/18/hard-fork-no-4-spurious-dragon/where he says to get the ethereum/mist wallet 0.8.7, but its exactly the one i've been using so far.. weird thing that happened is that it started syncing from the start yesterday.. dont know why. about the pool. maybe thats why dwarfpool was dows for some time yesterday? so am i all set or do i need to do any changes? still confused)

Here's an updated one. Sapphire 480 4G Hynix + Elpida. Memory at 1950. Link: HereGreetings hey Eliovp, any updates on the 33mh/s ref rom you have been working on?
|
|
|
starting to have 2nd thoughts about all this mining thing. perhaps its not for me.. just got my 2nd sapphire rx 480 8gb ref card and flashed it with the 32mh.s bios. which gives me 31.4 or so.. unlike the other identical card which doesnt give more than 28.5 using the exact same bios. problem now is that after some time the mh/s of this 31.4mh/s card drops to 0 and i get an OpenCL error, then the pc hangs and nothing works.
can some1 recommend me of a good card/brand with more consistent results that doesnt require so much annoying time waste?

just god my 2nd sapphire rx 480 8gb ref, flashed it with the Eliovp 32 MH/s rom and guess what. again same problem as with the previous card. curently running 4x xfx RS and 2 x the sapphire ref cards any ideas of the reason?

I managed to get the miner started and having GPU-Z values. Then I tried around with mclock/cclock settings, but no matter what I do set there - the system freezes short time after start of the miner. This also happens with the stock parameters. Any Idea what I am doing wrong? (I disabled those settings to create the screenshot) -cclock 1266 -mclock 2000 hmm.. so may i ask how come gpu-z suddenly shows temp. unlike before? i have also same problem... also my miner used to show temps and fan speed but now after i tinkered with dirivers its gone..

Hello, I just startet Claymore 7.3 with cclock (1220) and mclock (2275) settings. It seems the hashrate does not change, it is still around 24,7MH/s. Furthermore I have no clue why GPU-Z does not show me the current numbers on the clock settings: Does anyone have an idea about this? any idea why your Temp is not shown? i have the same problem

this is getting on my freaking nerves already.
i am flashing my sapphire 480 8gb ref with the 32 bios and it is being recognized again as 4gb and give me m/h of like 24 and then after a whole day drops to 8MH/s.. and the rest of the bioses of Eliovp also dont work.. always some weird shit happens.. using the newest drivers crimson 16.9.2 wtf is wrong with my card?!
Put original bios back and do some tests.... i honestly think i tried everything already... even deleting all amd files from the windows sxs file related to amd and reinstalling. now im running on original bios cuz its simply the most reliable one. i mean i dont know what tests to run anymore, do you have any suggestions before i buy another card and hope for a different results this time? Try MSI Kombustor or any video card test program, not every card can be moded. I saw some that barely work on stock. i have never used this program. could zou tell me what signs am i uspposed to be looking for?

@Eliovp: Tested your ROM with ETH and ZEC, stock clocks, undervolted and underclocked...
Conclusion: No changes, still getting exactly the same results as the other cards with stock BIOS.
Anyway, no complaints. Thanks for trying!
Cheers!
Haha, i honestly was thinking, no way, that's impossible. So i checked the rom i uploaded, of course, it's the wrong one Will upload the right one as soon as i get at my office. Turning Idiotic mode off again... lol.... well happens..^^ if you got some spare time may i ask you to also look at my "special case", its specified in the previous page of the thread quite extensively...

Of course i took the time But as i've mentioned before, these were for private clients. I could however do something small (some small changes).. I'll post one today. Greetings That would be highly appreciated Here, Sapphire 480 4G, basic changes. I didn't change clocks or voltage settings. Use atflash without the -f flag. In other words, DO NOT FORCE THIS rom on your GPU, also if atiflash complains that the device ID is not the same, DO NOT FLASH. You can use this on both Hynix and Elpida. Link: Here"All the older files are still available, just change the " http://www.mininghwcomparison.com" part to " http://62.212.74.86/~mining/". Greetings thanks! works indeed!

Hello, guys...
One quck question: is there ROM available for RX 480 4GB Sapphire Nitro (non ref).
I tried manually changing memory straps, but when i open bios in Polaris Bios editor, there are no such timings as 1500, 1750 etc...
Any recommendations?
Thanks
Apparently no one took the time to try to mod one of these as they are less popular than their 8 GB cousins. I have a few 4Gb and I'm happy with their performance but wouldn't mind to try one modded BIOS just for the fun of it Of course i took the time But as i've mentioned before, these were for private clients. I could however do something small (some small changes).. I'll post one today. Greetings Eliovp your original links are down, any chance to upload them back?

question.. so i flashed my sapphire rx 480 ref 8gb with the 32MH/s bios. and a few weird things happened. suddenly the claymore dual mined detects it as a 4gb card.in addition i see max 30 MH/s and it is quite unstable. look for GPU0 for the results, the other cards are different cards. any1 know what might be the issue? http:// The bios you flashed was a 4GB bios. Open it in Polarisbioseditor and change it to 8GB, save it and reflash your card. thanks for the reply. so i tried that, flashed successfully and it was indeed then detected as 8gb card. funny thing is that Hash rate became even worse. it avaraged then about 27MH/s and even dropped to 22 a few times.. im now completely confused for what could have caused this.. is it possible the card has some problem? Not sure what bios you got. The best thing to do is to do the mod yourself on a backup of your original bios. im am not the most experienced one with modding bioses thus im a bit afraid to do it myself. i got all the heliox bioses not from here (because they are down) but from some russian forum, ofcourse i cannot be 100% sure that they are the same but i hope so.. and i then used the 32MH/s bios(31.8MH/s) perhaps you could share the original bioses from heliox? I can upload my bios i have in all my reference 480 8GB cards when i get home later. That bios make my cards do solid 30.5Mhs @ ETH please do, i would highly appreciate it, perhaps mine are faulty in some way or another.. http://www.megafileupload.com/c49f/RX480_8GB_Reference.romso.. somewhat odd news... flashed was successful, but i get 22-23MH/s which is even worse than stock or just like stock.. dont rememeber. also for some reason i cannot see the temp of that specific card on GPU-z. temp didnt show up even with other bioses i flashed. same goes for temp and fan speed that claymore miner shows.. i cannot see it, for this and for the other heliox bioses i flashed. p.s card has 85% ASIC Something is wrong. I run that bios on my thirteen 480x cards. Sapphire, MSI and Asus reference 8GB cards. All do 30.5Mhs on ETH and 50+ s/s @ZEC What driver are you using ? i have 5 cards at the moment. 4x xfx rx 480 8gb RS version, and 1 x sapphire rx 480 ref 8gb. i used the crimston driver installer 16.9.2 for all of them, also when looking for driver versions using device manager properties, all cards have the same version 21.19.137.1 Does all your cards behave the same way ? no way to tell since the ref card has different bios then the xfx cards, last time i tried to interchange bioses from the xfx to the ref (was done by mistake) i bricked the ref card. i mean is this typical driver issue for a rig running more than 1 model of card? perhaps i should disconnect all xfx cards and install driver only on the ref and then disconnect it and install on the xfx? although the ref and the xfx cards are recognized differently in device manager and gpu-z. still what i dont get is why dont i see temp for the ref card on gpu-z, somehow bunch of weird shit going on here..
