161  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do you think any of the other "alt" currencies will overtake bitcoin? on: December 17, 2013, 12:17:12 AM
No, current alt currencies will never ever replace bitcoin, they don't bring anything new to the table (or if so, not that important to motivate a switch)
bitcoin and many others can certainly coexist together, for different scopes (commodity, currency, mixer, etc.)
sometimes it doesn't matter if a technology is superior, there is a barrier and this barrier is set quite high at the moment

Something that scales to millions of transactions per second and has easy/cheap transfers of vending-machine size transactions  is gonna win.  But whatever it is (and it might even be a redesign of Bitcoin), it won't work exactly like Bitcoin works now.
The best option is to just modify bitcoin to improve the bad parts of it.

162  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-12-16 wired.co.uk - What the arrival of Bitcoin means for society... on: December 17, 2013, 12:00:53 AM
Quote
The task now is to ensure that if cryptocurrencies creep into our lives, they make them better; that they encourage innovation, business freedom, consumer choice, without undermining the key functions of the state; to promote basic social goods without washing this promising and fragile new asset away in a sea of regulation.

Is he suggesting that the state shouldn't issue a currency buy a currency should be something above all States?
That's a very interesting utopia

that's great thanks for sharing!  Grin

satoshi nakamoto is not an option?
166  Other / Archival / Re: delete on: December 16, 2013, 10:10:41 PM
OP seriously you are such a loser, who cares about your fucking 63 BTC?
I had my coins back creating a simple ticket and waiting 10 hours, as everybody else.
Exchange engine is still shit and deposit are late but hey I use it because I want to.
Please cash out as soon as possible and disappear
167  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Cryptsy Warning - Glitch Detected - Buying more coins than balance should allow! on: December 16, 2013, 10:02:40 PM
I can be a proper dick and just empty my account before they catch on, but over .38 BTC its not even worth it. I will just move BTC into the account and bring it up to date. I shouldn't have to be forced to sell either my SBC or DGC, because that might result in a loss for me and that is total bullshit.

no you can't because they run an audit before withdrawals.
click on Audit and you will see your BTC balance is negative
168  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Oops - 20BTC fee paid on .05 transaction? on: December 16, 2013, 09:42:41 PM
That hurts.

I do not know the specifics of the payout protocol of P2Ppool, but couldn't they simply send him the coins back in a great display of altruism?

The fee was distributed among 399 miners, would be difficult to contact all of them:

Difficult but not impossible.  Real altruism takes effort.

Some miners have given back mistakenly sent fees before I think. Maybe he can get some coins back.

This happened last week, on LTC

169  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Coindesk - China might have just killed BTC there. on: December 16, 2013, 09:16:42 PM
Wait tomorrow and see if they release an official statements.
It's not a good news at all, it prevents capital from flowing into the market and substain the price
170  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Neo EasyCoin Official - Buy BTC With Cash [UK,USA,Russia,Denmark,Sweden,Norway] on: December 16, 2013, 04:49:37 PM
NeoEasyCoin could you confirm locations? Is it going to be as explained in this reply?

Thanks
171  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: ZipZap to Offer Cash-for-Bitcoin Service at 28,000 UK Locations on: December 16, 2013, 04:46:44 PM
Small bump.
I checked their website but I can't find any list of pay point outside USA.
I live in London, where are these 28k shops?
172  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC, LTC or wait? on: December 16, 2013, 01:53:15 PM
long long term: buy BTC
long term: buy LTC and convert to BTC when you are happy with the profit
short term: watch and learn, nobody can tell you what to do

Edit: Above post is quite funny, analysis on bitcoin > do not buy alt coin! WTF?
173  Economy / Speculation / Re: It's time to buy, not to sell on: December 16, 2013, 01:51:22 PM
And Bitcoin will not break.

That's quite a huge statement!  Grin

I agree, this is time to buy, we are near what I think is the bottom ($800)
Chinese FUD is also going on at the moment, the trend is evident but not a crash for sure (yet)
174  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Announcing a new bitcoin exchange with UK banking - www.bit121.co.uk on: December 16, 2013, 01:47:29 PM
Great news but, why would a legit exchange use Hushmail as their mail servers?

Code:
bit121.co.uk MX
preference: 10
exchange: plsmtp1.hushmail.com
300s
bit121.co.uk MX
preference: 10
exchange: plsmtp2.hushmail.com
300s

Don't get me wrong, this is exactly what I am looking for being a UK resident but with the high fees and above info I think I have good reason to be cautious?

for now the best option is to watch and just comment about this. personally I wouldn't risk put 50quid to this couple weeks old exchange. second worrie is lack of info. no address, no phone, no info who is the owner. if anything will happen who u gonna chase if email address fail when u trying contact them. this days anyone one can have site secured with SSL for few bobs. site itself looks really like school project. maybe.I'm wrong and it will be succesfull but will see. remember there was someone who tried setup exchange and failed big time. mtgox had account.closed in UK. btc-e not rushing to give UK green light for deposit in GBP. must be a reason.

have you checked this article? http://www.coindesk.com/barclays-bank-uk-bitcoin-exchange-bit121/
apparently bit121 doesn't use barclays directly but barclays refuses to comment on this.
personally I am waiting for ZipZap next year to poor some money into bitcoin and litecoin.
175  Other / Off-topic / Re: China prohibits banks providing settlement services to Bitcoin Exchange on: December 16, 2013, 01:41:10 PM

In the meantime my orders are waiting around $550ish..  Roll Eyes

177  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Cryptsy now trading Orbitcoin, despite the Huge premine. on: December 16, 2013, 08:33:43 AM
Craptsy is a trading platform and they can add as many coins as they want. The problem is that there are so many stupid people buying those shit coins.
178  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [LTC] Changing the litecoin Proof of Work function to avoid ASIC mining? on: December 16, 2013, 01:13:56 AM
I answered no to the pool, and I have to say I am surprised that the majority of vote is Yes (LTC haters?)
I agree that ASIC technology decreases mining decentralization but ONLY during the first stage.
ASIC is the way to go to secure the network, gain credibility and attract more investors.

Up until now I haven't seen any proof of LTC ASIC, have you? ...
179  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Everyone needs to calm down about Cryptsy on: December 16, 2013, 12:55:11 AM
hasnt cryptsy been down for the past 9 hours?

and not a single tweet from vern about it..

It was up until 30 minutes ago for me
180  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Everyone needs to calm down about Cryptsy on: December 16, 2013, 12:35:56 AM
All of you should be ashamed. Do you realize that Cryptsy only generated 148.55 BTC fee revenue last week?

https://cryptostocks.com/announcements/461

It is practically a non-profit.

If Cryptsy suspended trading to fix known ongoing chronic issues, or hired additional help, BigVern would probably have to start skipping meals and sleep out on the street.

yeah you are right, 120k is not enough to pay for some shitty servers and some training for support.
I suggest to check the balance and run an audit every single trade or you might end up having to buy in order to withdraw your coins
