Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do you think any of the other "alt" currencies will overtake bitcoin?

No, current alt currencies will never ever replace bitcoin, they don't bring anything new to the table (or if so, not that important to motivate a switch) bitcoin and many others can certainly coexist together, for different scopes (commodity, currency, mixer, etc.) sometimes it doesn't matter if a technology is superior, there is a barrier and this barrier is set quite high at the moment Something that scales to millions of transactions per second and has easy/cheap transfers of vending-machine size transactions is gonna win. But whatever it is (and it might even be a redesign of Bitcoin), it won't work exactly like Bitcoin works now.
The best option is to just modify bitcoin to improve the bad parts of it. agree

The task now is to ensure that if cryptocurrencies creep into our lives, they make them better; that they encourage innovation, business freedom, consumer choice, without undermining the key functions of the state; to promote basic social goods without washing this promising and fragile new asset away in a sea of regulation.
Is he suggesting that the state shouldn't issue a currency buy a currency should be something above all States? That's a very interesting utopia

Edit: Above post is quite funny, analysis on bitcoin > do not buy alt coin! WTF?

And Bitcoin will not break.
That's quite a huge statement! I agree, this is time to buy, we are near what I think is the bottom ($800) Chinese FUD is also going on at the moment, the trend is evident but not a crash for sure (yet)

Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Announcing a new bitcoin exchange with UK banking - www.bit121.co.uk

Great news but, why would a legit exchange use Hushmail as their mail servers? bit121.co.uk MX preference: 10 exchange: plsmtp1.hushmail.com 300s bit121.co.uk MX preference: 10 exchange: plsmtp2.hushmail.com 300s Don't get me wrong, this is exactly what I am looking for being a UK resident but with the high fees and above info I think I have good reason to be cautious? for now the best option is to watch and just comment about this. personally I wouldn't risk put 50quid to this couple weeks old exchange. second worrie is lack of info. no address, no phone, no info who is the owner. if anything will happen who u gonna chase if email address fail when u trying contact them. this days anyone one can have site secured with SSL for few bobs. site itself looks really like school project. maybe.I'm wrong and it will be succesfull but will see. remember there was someone who tried setup exchange and failed big time. mtgox had account.closed in UK. btc-e not rushing to give UK green light for deposit in GBP. must be a reason. have you checked this article? http://www.coindesk.com/barclays-bank-uk-bitcoin-exchange-bit121/apparently bit121 doesn't use barclays directly but barclays refuses to comment on this. personally I am waiting for ZipZap next year to poor some money into bitcoin and litecoin.

Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] Everyone needs to calm down about Cryptsy

All of you should be ashamed. Do you realize that Cryptsy only generated 148.55 BTC fee revenue last week? https://cryptostocks.com/announcements/461It is practically a non-profit. If Cryptsy suspended trading to fix known ongoing chronic issues, or hired additional help, BigVern would probably have to start skipping meals and sleep out on the street. yeah you are right, 120k is not enough to pay for some shitty servers and some training for support. I suggest to check the balance and run an audit every single trade or you might end up having to buy in order to withdraw your coins
