Great summary Quez, I love the fact Research Age will allow the small players to stay in the game and let them get their slice of the pie. I think that is very important as it will allow newbies to join the community and not feel like they have missed out. Short report: The price went up to 700 satoshis! In a bit more than 14 days the next big mandatory upgrade will come introducing Research Age. The features of Research Age are - Support for hundreds of thousands of miners/researchers
- No mining losses if you stake a block in 6 months(!). You will accrue "coin age" and Research Age over this long period (meaning how long did your coins not stake and how long have you researched a certain amount). Even if you do less research and have less coins than all others, you will eventually get paid because you accrue a huge "coin age" and Research Age. And then, with just one block, you will be fully paid, including interest!
- No splitting of CPIDs is needed any longer. CPID means CrossProject Identifier within the BOINC network.
- The maximum magnitude (percentage of research done related to all other research participants in BOINC-team Gridcoin, magnitude = payment indicator for Proof of Research payments) will be 20000 which will not be reached easily (if you reach it, you can still split CPIDs).
- The last 2 features will reinforce the competition between researchers to get the highest magnitude which will encourage people to join BOINC-team Gridcoin, start researching/mining and use as much hardware as possible to get the highest rewards. Remember, you do not need extra hardware like ASICs although you CAN use them. You just need a computer, a mobile phone or even only a RaspberryPI to research and get rewarded in Gridcoin.
From my point of view, Research Age is the last missing part of the puzzle that enables unlimited growth of the Gridcoin ecosystem. The more researchers/miners we have the harder it will get to reach a certain magnitude/payment, the higher the price will rise and the more people get interested which will then lead to more researchers .... And so on! I know this might sound trollo-like, but if you do not join now, you might miss your part of the pie! Quez

Most people who hear of Gridcoin for the first time have a very positive reaction, so I would imagine when the rest of the world and the broader scientific community hears about it, the reaction would be similar. Top 10 on coinmarketcap should not be very difficult at all imho. The price rises. 550 satoshis and more. Nice, but there is more to come. Probably a kickstarter based on Gridcoin will be starting within the next days. More info is coming as soon as it starts. On 1st October the new feature Research Age will be going live if everything runs as planned. I think we are on the right track I'm looking forward for that. What kind of kickstarter is it? I'm curious. regarding the price: this is just a logic result of very hard work, top community engagement, super real word use and was foreseen to be honest. I think Gridcoin can easily be seen as a top 10-15 Coin regarding the coinmarketcap which means a price increase from now 10x - 15x is more than feasible.

Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Any coins which aren't just pump and dump?

That is good advice. In today's wacky world of financial markets everything is pretty much suspect: stocks/bonds/commodities etc.. Hell, oil went to $147 a barrel and then dumped down into the mid-twenties in the space of a few months. That was probably one of the greatest P&D in Wall Street history. Sick and tired of seeing coins which are just created for pump and dump and then open up as a new name a few days after they have died?
"Pump and dump" is everything, my man. Even the Dow Jones and the USDollar aswell as practically everything else. No exception. But you talk about vapourware scamcoins that die off very fast, right? Well, to solve that problem for you: stop buying in brand newcoins and look for older ones that have community and history. After a lot of these experiences i don't buy coins that haven't survived 6 months at least. Not even looking at new stuff anymore. I'll be interested if it doesn't die after the first and second pump.
