Yeah, I'll be honest, with everything I had going on during the reviving process I just couldn't balance it. My life was going up and down ridiculously like a roller coaster and I wasn't able to properly commit to what needed to be done as part of the administration team. I partially hold myself responsible for not being there when everything was being organized because I could have possibly made a difference. That said, I am following the current progress and am hopeful to see what we spent so much time and effort on come back to life in a new and improved way.
That wasn't directed at you, and you shouldn't hold yourself responsible at all.
Sorry to hear things have been tough. Take care

Had a PM basically blaming me for this and asking me to step down my role as custodian so I may be kicked from the community... been a fun and enjoyable 8 years and sorry to see it end like this for a file that took me just over a week to upload. If it that crucial then need MORE custodians to help not less. some very backwards thinking going on and I can suddenly see why ctya was having issues. I will stop everything immediately if I do leave as there is no point when the fun has stopped.

Fuzzybear
That's ludicrous but sums up 'community' progress.
Cheers for the efforts Fuzzy, and for sticking with it way longer than I had patience for.
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: I Am Resigning on: May 16, 2019, 09:49:53 AM
Taxes on crypto are getting too complicated and dangerous ...

...Devcoin is worth very little, but the accounting fees and risks are still high. It's a lot of hassle for little gain.
Because of this, unfortunately, I am going to resign from devcoin
Thanks for your efforts UTB, and for what was a promising idea.

You're right in inferring that many don't properly consider tax issues. I was careful about where and how traded but it still took a long time to collate past info to calculate potential liability. Not something I want to do again (or even could do given how many exchanges have disappeared) and it's one reason I don't play any more.

All the best

I've received notification that the Devcoin wikipedia page I created is being considered for deletion. If a concern someone may wish to argue why not.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Devcoin_(2nd_nomination)

Also noticed an additional line: "An auction site for Devcoin users went online in May 2014. Users can pay with BTC, LTC, DVC and PayPal. All profits from Devcoin Auctions will go toward the Devcoin project itself." That hasn't been correct for a long time. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devcoin

Wikipedia is old, we now have Everipedia! It is a blockchain baked encyclopedia, created by the founders of Wikipedia. They are wide open to document cryptos (quick search google for: Cryptocurrency site:everipedia.org). The only drawback is that you should buy IQ tokens from the EOS blockchain, in order to create a page. The good news is that I have IQ tokens so all you have to do is to create the page and share the link with me. I'll take care of getting it voted!!

NOTICE! For every edit on that everipedia you need votes, so you have to be very careful before sending any edit, since I don't have much BRAIN POWER (similar to STEEM POWER) so it takes week to recover!

Go go Devcoin!!
I won't be doing that, and think monetisation and pay-to-play of information and the commons are bad things in every way.
If this is the future for blockchain then for society's sake I hope it all dies. Take care

Have tidied up stuff on devtome. Contacts for any future access problems are here. If interested in keeping it going understand hosting could still do with contributions. Wikipedia have reinstated my devcoin article if anyone wants to keep content updated.

Was good to find this project at a difficult personal time, for constructive interaction with some similar-minded ideals. Things haven't turned out as I probably naively hoped, and using up btc for dvc support a hindsight bad error. But live and learn, and trust some of that made a positive difference to others. Hope you all agree on a way forward with the right incentive structures - growing big government and big business means new approaches to support OS development and open licensing are needed ever more. Good luck.

No. There is no synchronization. This message is shown in console: ...
Are you sure you had receiver_76 in the directory before trying to resync? As block 304000 is where it rolls from 75 to 76.
Of course, I'm sure. I replaced it with this file http://devcoin.darkgamex.ch/receiver_76.csv for the last time before synchronization.
Had a look at the code linked here: http://devtome.com/doku.php?id=devcoin#receiver_files

Block 304000 is when receiver switches to newer file. Assuming height 304000, step 4000 therefore refers to first address of new receiver file (receiver_76):

First address in receiver_76 is 15MZRa1cPUVChs6XpzyAfGox5nvPVpSvok

But first address in receiver_75 is 1KZKMYixw4PDtu5ZbKqrahRWeAgputuVoc

As those two addresses correspond to your errors, all I can think is that client hasn't properly closed/restarted in resync to pick up receiver_76?

That's just my uninformed guess. Anything more informed will need someone more familiar with the process.

I am at block 307374. The (old and dated?) wallet (Debian Linux) does not seem to update though.

The latest receiver file I can find is receiver_17.csv dated 5 November 2013 but I have transactions in my wallet dated 7 March 2016 and 27 May 2017  Huh
My old and dated windows version updates receivers to current.

Ok. I'm at work without info to hand, but don't think receiver_77 has been finalised/applies yet.  Not a dev so someone else will have to clarify, but may want to remove that one before resync.

Checked my wallet. Also seems fine - syncs to current block and receiver_76 as expected.

What can there be talk about exchanges if the coin network functions crookedly.
From previous responses I thought the client issue was resolved. Or wouldn't have pursued looking into exchanges.
Hopefully someone will clarify.

14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Software Developers and Writers on: October 25, 2017, 09:32:20 AM
I thought devtome was a stepping stone and/or to be one element of many.
The problem is 'writers' became more numerous than devs, yet most is garbage in terms of broad utility (I'm not a dev, have written so maybe garbage includes me).

Devcoin started by funding software developers, then devtome was made. Most of those software developers ignored devcoin, as far as I know only develCuy and Emfox came to devcoin from software funding. Most administrators came from writers, because there were far more interested writers.

Devtome was supposed to make money from advertising, which would of payed for other projects, but the advertising revenues turned out to be insignificant. I expected advertisers to pay for many ads on devtome because there was so much content, but I was wrong.
I previously outlined issues with Devtome and pricing. Advertising was never likely to impact that dynamic, successful or otherwise.
But I think we all made errors in assumptions and/or mechanics.

i never understood what "writers" have to do with DEVcoin, ie development. once that took off, i lost interest in devcoin just like other devs. a revert is needed.

OK, maybe I assumed most people that cares about Devcoin realize why we should fix things rather than letting them stay as they are.

The only reason for me is that Devcoin is currently not sustainable by design, that is why I'm proposing a new IRS and RDS, and to hardfork with a DRS. So I'm taking time to discuss every aspect of my proposal openly in this forum, the change needs all help possible!

Let me elaborate a few things on why Devcoin is not sustainable:

1. Most rewards (bounties, staff, devtome, minning, etc) are paid for doing absolutely nothing.
2. Devtome is abandoned and nobody wants to take care of it
3. There is only have ONE exchange accepting Devcoin, and there will hardly be other accepting it
4. Development is stuck, source code is outdated, there is no development team, nor any maintenance (hello security!)
5. Currently Devcoin is not creating any value at all, it is just a merged mined coin that slowly dumps on every cycle

In short, Devcoin is vanishing as we discuss, somebody must do something! How about US doing something for Devcoin?

You know something? I'm already working hard to create assets for Devcoin, it will be backed by real assets from day zero, YET first things first. Devcoin needs purpose back into the minds of core team, are you in or what?
In what though?

I'm not saying things are perfect; argued similarly on the model for years.

Again, my opinion is you need to put conversion to the side and lay detail on the table. There may be (dis)agreement. Perhaps changes must be encompassed in a new coin (per markm above). But successful decentralised change demands explanation and consensus.

e.g. Generation: unlimited, limited, constant, dynamic, merged, standalone, levels, rate of change, why, why not, how? ...

I'm only being blunt to try keeping this pragmatic and avoid going round in circles again. No point inferring any other motive as we've been here before, but will leave you to it.

Feedback is impossible until you make firm proposals/justification. What changes you want, why and how.
Reiterating a purpose and focusing on secondary issue of a swap is not a plan.
18  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [DVC]DevCoin - Official Thread - Moderated on: August 06, 2017, 05:20:47 PM
the fact that ppl bought the coin is something not nothing. most ppl will not get involved actively. they took the initiative to buy/mine the coin. they spent money. its like ppl who bought bitcoin very early and got lucky. they didnt do diddle either but at least they got in early and got rich.

ppl who bought or mined  dvc early should be compensated 100% for believing in this coin if we swap.
Then the obvious retort is to ask why we deserve a bailout for a losing choice?

Otherwise, many perhaps most dvc holders 'earned' rather than bought them. As mmpool outlines, Devcoin's rationale is different to most. The mechanics were wrong but a bailout would take failed methodology (for reasons where we may disagree) and again underwrite it in a new endeavour. That's asking for more of the same.

How to differentiate between varying interest? I have no idea, but that's one reason I doubt a new coin forcing deletion of the old is a good idea. Another is swap-or-not is secondary to successful mechanics and incentives.
19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [DVC]DevCoin - Official Thread - Moderated on: August 03, 2017, 05:24:15 PM
I'd start from what you want Devcoin to be that it isn't now, and mechanics of how, and work backwards. Not vice versa.
The answer to renew vs not (and relative interests of current vs future holders) will become apparent in the process.
20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [DVC]DevCoin - Official Thread - Moderated on: July 30, 2017, 08:12:05 PM
It doesn't matter one single bit WHY someone is holding Devcoin or, how they got it, or what they intend to do with it, they should be fairly compensated for their holdings if a new Devcoin is generated and old one losses value do to that ... Still say old coins for new coins, at fair market, possibly with adjusted quantities if needed, but the coins being held must be honored.
Putting that into practice conflicts with assertions that coin supply is the problem. Seems that needs settling first.
Otherwise fair compensation for ~zero value is ~zero.
