I noticed TOR is offered on port 8337, Base on the port, I assume this is a getwork server. Is Stratum also available on TOR?
Actually, it wasn't, but, I've gone ahead and added port 3334. -wk Thanks!

Bitcoin / Mining / Stratum-like support in bitcoind?
|
on: March 24, 2013, 05:31:54 PM
|
Is there any way to reduce the amount of network traffic between a miner (cgminer) and a remote bitcoind instance? Something like variable difficulty or stratum?
Should I run my own pool software on the remote instance that supports stratum, if so, which one?

well I ordered a BFL SC it added $114 tax on top of the 1299 but when I checked out it was not added is this a problem?
No, it's not a problem - it does that for everyone. Not everyone. I haven't paid a tax on my orders, only $34 shipping. I've paid through both PayPal and Bitcoins...so maybe that makes a difference? I think you misread Korbman - "it does that for everyone" meaning nobody pays for tax upon checkout. When you change your own location (State) to something other than Kansas, it will remove the tax from the listing. so. since i avoid the bfl forums - how do i get that discount voucher?
BFL will include the voucher with the equipment shipment. So it will go out with your original order.

marcus_of_augustus, do you plan to offer vouchers for the 99 euro (yearly) plan?
I was ready to buy from the first reseller mentioned but they require my address? F**K that Sh*t.
Unfortunately I can't log on at the moment. It says my password is wrong even though I'm sure it not. I tried another account and it works fine.
Ummm, my link leads you to the reseller who deals only in bitcoin for MEGA vouchers ... and AFAIK, you will not need to input any details besides sending the bitcoins ... maybe an email address. I was referring to https://www.hosting.co.uk/ that asks you for your address, even if you pay with bitcoin. It doesn't matter anyway. I did a test upload of a 1GB movie to Mega and now I can't download it. It acts like it is downloading the whole file, then when it gets to the end - "ENCRYPTION ERROR". So I can't trust Mega at this point. That, and the fact that I can't login to my main account even though I used a password manager to store the password, so I'm sure it's correct.

Bitcoin / Pools / Re: How do I mine with my Avalon ASICs?
|
on: December 27, 2012, 01:17:41 AM
|
In a few days (hopefully) the first batch of Avalon ASICs will be delivered. The question that bothers me at this point in time is, how to I mine with them in the most efficient way, the reason being, its those very first days that every bit of performance counts.
Do I solomine or point to a pool (which pool would support this in the most efficient way)?
If you're a risk taker - mine solo. But expect to wait up to several days to find a block. If you want to play it safe, mine PPS (pay per share). It pays you for every share. You can mine PPS at a pool with a very low fee like http://hhtt.1209k.com/ If you choose a high difficulty like 512, you will only pay 1.0625 percent fee.

|
on: December 25, 2012, 07:03:25 PM

Is p2pool ready for ASIC's or is there still work that needs to be done? Can it already do variable difficulty?
yes, vardiff works already. stratum is "ComingSoonTM" Will stratum make the communication between cgminer and the local p2pool process more efficient or is that how variable difficult will be done? local communication has no real latencys therefore its always efficient. variable difficulty is already implemented (altough it increases the diff for all miners, not only the fast one). for the unreleased(/undeveloped) stratum stuff ul have to ask forrestv. So p2pool is not really ready for ASIC? Because the first one that comes along is going to screw it up for everyone else? Not really local variable difficulty?

Try change to: "gpu-threads" : "1", "queue" : "0",
What is your GBT latency? 50% is soo high stale. Changing queue to zero cut my rejects down to about 6 percent. I have not tried changing the threads because that will halve my speed, right? Where do I find GBT latency? OK, in the graphs I found - "getwork latency mean 0.787s". Another thing that has me worried is the "Expected after mining for 24 hours" is only half of what I get on a PPS server.

Is it necessary to use a bitcoin address on the command line that exists in the bitcoind instance you are running? For example, could you mine to a cloud based address (blockchain.info) that didn't exist on your local bitcoind?
No. Yes. Thanks. I'm trying to like p2pool, but I'm getting 50% rejects. I have a good cable internet connection with nothing else significant running on it. Does it matter if I run bitcoin-qt vs. bitcoind? Here's my cgminer config: { "pools" : [ { "url" : "http://127.0.0.1:9332", "user" : "none", "pass" : "none" }
] , "intensity" : "7,7,7", "vectors" : "2,2,2", "worksize" : "128,128,128", "kernel" : "diablo,diablo,diablo", "gpu-engine" : "800-875,800-875,800-875", "gpu-fan" : "0-85,0-85,0-85", "gpu-memclock" : "300,300,300", "gpu-memdiff" : "0,0,0", "gpu-powertune" : "0,0,0", "gpu-vddc" : "0.000,0.000,0.000", "temp-cutoff" : "95,95,95", "temp-overheat" : "85,85,85", "temp-target" : "75,75,75", "failover-only" : true, "auto-fan" : true, "auto-gpu" : true, "expiry" : "120", "gpu-dyninterval" : "7", "gpu-platform" : "0", "gpu-threads" : "2", "log" : "5", "queue" : "1", "retry-pause" : "5", "scan-time" : "60", "temp-hysteresis" : "3", "shares" : "0", "kernel-path" : "/usr/local/bin"
