341  Bitcoin / Mining / Any reason to run pool software as a solo miner? on: April 24, 2012, 01:48:55 PM
Is there any advantage to running pool software (like ecoinpool) as a solo miner?

I can already see what's going on pretty well with cgminer. Is bitcoind able to keep up with lots of devices and supply work to them?
342  Economy / Marketplace / Re: ["WAIT LIST"] BFL Singles Order Date / Ship Date on: April 24, 2012, 01:16:31 PM
Did the packages come with SIGNATURE REQUIRED?  I'm going on vacation and don't want the thing to be sent back to BFL.
343  Economy / Marketplace / Re: BFL Single Order Date/Ship Date on: April 20, 2012, 12:51:37 PM
I apologize for being out of the loop for a while since I've already raffled off a Bitforce here, but might I ask if anyone has seen the previous detractors publicly apologize for their constant doubts of Butterfly labs yet? They don't need to be shot or hung or anything like that, but I think a public acknowledgement that they are in fact overly judgmental would be in order.

<Begin fight>

Forgive me Matthew for I have sinned. It's been 3 days since my last payout. I was a doubter. I'll still be nervous until the order arrives.

I've ordered the rest. There are no more left...........  Grin  Grin  Grin

You have 17 now, is that right?  If your wife has any towels to dry, she can just hang them in the "hashing" room.

So how many people have ordered and on what dates ?

It figures that right after I cash out a bunch of bitcoins to buy several BFL singles, the price of bitcoins starts climbing.
347  Other / Off-topic / Re: Butterfly Labs - Bitforce Single and Mini Rig Box on: April 19, 2012, 05:46:26 PM
Is there anything else one can do with Single or MiniRig than mine bitcoins. Just wondering what kind of "insurance" I have if BTC crashes.

People have been saying that there is currently no other use for the Singles, unless BFL supplies an alternate bitstream....

however, reading this thread:  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=49971.msg811855#msg811855 gives the impression that even if the chips have an encrypted bitstream, that an open stream can still be installed on them. Of course it depends on what kind of chip is being used.

Does the Single need a powered USB hub? If not, is there a limit of the number of unpowered devices that can be hooked up to a single USB port on the motherboard?
349  Other / Off-topic / Re: I visited BFL, any questions ? on: April 12, 2012, 11:33:41 AM
I walked past the future offices of BFL twelve years ago, ask me anything....

Joking aside, the reason people were excited about this thread and subsequently disappointed with its lack of useful information is that BFL is NOT transparent. If they want people to trust them, they need to be a lot more open about their business. If they know they are going to be late with shipments, be HONEST about it. If they have only 150 units for this batch and anyone ordering now won't get theirs until August, BE HONEST about it. We can handle the truth.

Why is there so much secrecy surrounding this company? Why doesn't "sonny" reveal his real name?  Are they dealing with gray market or worse, goods that they would be ashamed to admit they are using that they have to sand the part numbers off of? Are they worried about retaliation? From whom?  Are they worried about the Feds? The IRS? Are they worried about us? All very strange.

Has anyone gotten a Rev3 unit yet? BFL said they would be shipping out and the end of March.
351  Other / Off-topic / Re: Mini Rig announcement by Butterfly Labs - 25gh/s on: April 08, 2012, 04:12:46 PM
Well, if BFL can make a faster "single", then other companies could also. BFL will eventually be forced to sell their faster unit to stay competitive.

I envy the people that can afford the mini rig and have the guts to invest that much.
352  Other / Off-topic / Re: Mini Rig announcement by Butterfly Labs - 25gh/s on: April 08, 2012, 02:58:39 PM
LOL  Smiley do people ever ready what is replied ? Just above it says There is no new single.  All production of these processors will be dedicated to our Mini Rig product exclusively.
And now you ask what the new Single will be called ?  Huh

Vapor? - Do you realize I wrote this message before BFL posted that message?
353  Other / Off-topic / Re: Mini Rig announcement by Butterfly Labs - 25gh/s on: April 08, 2012, 02:31:46 PM
The base configuration of the Mini Rig has 18 card slots occupied and performs at 25 gh/s.

I hope BFL gives the new Single a new name like the "Double" or something. You can't tell when you order which version you will get currently.
354  Other / Off-topic / Re: Mini Rig announcement by Butterfly Labs - 25gh/s on: April 08, 2012, 10:47:39 AM
I too find this quite neat. I can 'download' the other drivers, for other uses. It's been like that since before the Singles were out, and are largely why I didn't think BFL was legit.

Sorry for being a bit off topic, back on topic:

25000 / 18 = 1388.88 m/hash a unit.

Even at max capacity (24)

25000 / 24 = 1041 m/hash each.

Back to those crazy numbers again BFL? Honestly, I think that large of a jump in hashing is a bit high, even with a different chip than the current design.

It's much more likely they are quoting the maximum hash rate of the box with all 24 modules installed. Going from 832 MH/s to 1041 is certainly believable if they are changing to a newer chip.

I've got BTC burning a hole in my wallet.dat waiting to buy my second BFL single, but I'm kinda nervous with people waiting so long to get theirs. It seems from the shipment tracking that people who ordered in January are getting theirs now?

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=67887.msg791080#msg791080

I think I would be foolish to order a second one when my first one hasn't even arrived yet.
356  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] 1x 5870 2x 5850's - new lower price on: April 04, 2012, 11:49:02 AM
lowered the price by 5BTC each.
357  Other / Off-topic / Re: Butterfly Labs - Bitforce Single and Rig Box on: April 02, 2012, 04:58:54 PM
(considering there's some new FPGAs being released in the next 8 weeks which may be better purchases)

Which other ones are you waiting for?

I'm asking because I can either buy more than one Single now, or spread out the purchases and hope to take advantage of the competition between vendors. I assume there will be better and better stuff coming out from a variety of vendors.
358  Economy / Computer hardware / [SOLD] 1x 5870 2x 5850's - new lower price on: March 31, 2012, 08:25:34 PM
Selling to continental USA only.

I am decommissioning one of my mining rigs. These are all in excellent working order and are mining coins right now.

They have never been over-volted.

I prefer to sell to someone that wants all three.

Price:
5850's - 25 BTC each. plus shipping
5870   - 30 BTC plus shipping.

If you buy all three, I'll throw in free shipping.

359  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: AMDOverdriveCtrl on Debian Squeeze - anyone get it to work? on: September 09, 2011, 01:03:06 PM
I can do it with somewhat aticonfig, but AMDOverdriveCtrl is more flexible and let's me underclock the memory.
360  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / AMDOverdriveCtrl on Debian Squeeze - anyone get it to work? on: September 09, 2011, 12:26:10 PM
I'm getting the "AMDOverdriveCtrl: /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6: version GLIBCXX_3.4.14' not found" message when running AMDOverdriveCtrl on 64 bit Debian Squeeze -  has anyone gotten this to run? What did you have to do to get it to work?  Thanks.
