Asked MD to add us as merged coin - they replied "project is dead, so we delisted it some time ago". Maybe it's time to return or is there other pool merged mining SXC?

Another question - if I install selfhosted pool like NOMP/uNOMP and use SXC from its config - will it work? Simply - can it still be mined directly, without merge?

*Good to see you in here ArchitektoR!*

100% Yes. It can be mined as the main chain. I've been considering putting up the lavapit again.

As you can see, I've been pulled back for a bit. Who's MD? Maybe contact with the rest of us could help.

EDIT: read-back and found it. Mining-Dutch. Is there a contact?

Excellent news!

Is there a feature to add nodes to the android wallet? (the app is trying to connect to one I.P., but keeps dropping out) Speaking of which - don't forget apkpure.com where you can upload the new APK and it will be added to their "you need to update" lists.

I'll definitely look into apkpure (I wasn't aware of it ). There already is a feature that the wallet uses to automatically check if there's an update available, I haven't bumped the number on the server side to trigger it yet.
When the app starts, it checks sexcoin.info for the latest build, which is why I bumped to 3.3.4 instead of just incrementing the beta number. I'll have that updated in the next day or two.

As far as adding nodes, its one of the features I want to add into the next build. This build I only wanted to fix what's gotten broken in the last year so I didn't change much ... so I could get it out quickly.

I'm currently working on these features:

  • add multiple nodes ( not just one trusted peer )
  • cancel a stuck transaction
  • adjust the fee manually
  • import a checkpoint file
  • view the log files in-app
  • set where exchange data come's from dynamically

As always, post your wish lists. If its possible I'll do my best to get it in.

Another thing that's taking a lot of my brain is an iPhone build. If anyone knows/thinks of a way to get it onto the Apple Store ... well ... I could use some wisdom there. I've been toying with calling it sxcwallet for them and have no direct reference to sexcoin, which crosses one hurdle. The second one is that they hate crypto wallets in general. I'm not sure how the big guns have gotten listed, but I've talked to a number of devs who said they were flat out told "No crypto wallets". Some countered pointing out that wallets were already there, but were unsuccessful in getting their small project approved.

::New Android Version::

Version 3.3.4-beta3 is available.

This fixes:
  • Exchange Rates not being populated
  • Endless crash loop on Android 14 (possibly others) when trying to use bluetooth
  • Adjusted the transaction fee down
  • Updated checkpoint file

https://github.com/lavajumper/sexcoin-wallet/releases/download/v3.3.4-beta3/sexcoin-android-wallet-V3.3.4-beta3.apk

  • Download the new .apk
  • Back up your keys
  • Install the .apk

This will update the way we're all used to.
On newer devices you will probably need to go to the App Permissions and explicitly set access permissions for Files, Camera and set Notifications.

I'm working on a rebuild of the wallet, to conform to more recent Android requirements and permission schemes.

Just thought I'd let you know the updated Android Wallet has stopped polling fiat prices and just shows the SXC balance (but everything else seems to be working).

Quote
The price polling issue seems to have rectified itself after I sent a couple of hundred SXC to my Android Wallet.

I've had another report that the fiat prices were not being pulled (sometimes). I'm looking into it.
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [SXC][NSFW] Sexcoin - New Android Client Release! on: April 11, 2021, 05:46:42 PM
@Timelord2067: I believe the standard P2P port is 9560 and according a quick grep through the sources 9561 is the default rpc port (I have it set to that explicitly in the conf but can't remember why I did that).

This is correct.

You needed to set it explicitly because of a bug. That bug was fixed in either 15.2.1 or 15.2.2.

Is there a need to do anything to previously created paper wallets, or are they safe/ stay the same for the foreseeable future.

Paper wallets are always really safe. You don't need to do anything at all. And will be for the foreseeable future. You da man!

Chainz being stalled is a real anomaly, but the chain is indeed still moving.

There are still a number of pools merge-mining. Psycodad is correct, merge-mining can be done on ALL merge-minable coins, all at the same time, that share the same hash algo.

SexCoin is starting to wake up and has seen some modest trades and small gains over the last week.
this coin is already at the bottom, I wouldn't be surprised if it comes to life soon. A new bitcoin rally has just begun, the rate of altcoins depends on it.

The Dev team is now concentrating on merchant adaptation. We believe this is the best use of our efforts now that the technical issues have been worked out. We are still working on an iPhone option too.
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [SXC][NSFW] Sexcoin - V 0.15.2.2 Mandatory Upgrade! Merge-mining! on: May 09, 2019, 07:31:06 PM
::Update - Android!::

Sexcoin Android Wallet on Github
Compliant with Sexcoin V 0.15.2 or above

If you are new to the Android wallet, you will need to allow your device to install from unofficial sources.

This version does a 'side-by-side' installation with the old sexcoin. Make a backup of your old wallet before installing this version.

Android Upgrade Instructions:

This wallet version performs a 'side-by-side' installation instead of installing overtop of the old version, which means when you install for an upgrade, you will have two Sexcoin wallet apps. In your `Settings|Apps`,
the old one will be listed as 'Sexcoin' and the new one will be listed as 'Sexcoin Wallet'. This provides an extra layer of safety during upgrade, and also helps keep more separation from other wallets apps that are based on Bitcoin Wallet.

Method 1:

  • Backup your keys.
  • Install new Android Sexcoin Wallet.
  • Get an address from new wallet.
  • Backup your new wallet.
  • Import old keys and resync.
  • Send all funds from old wallet to new wallet.
  • Wait for two confirmations.
  • Restore your new wallet.
  • Create a new backup.
  • Delete the old Android wallet.

Method 2:

  • Backup your keys.
  • Install new Android.
  • Import the key backup.
  • Let the blockchain sync.
  • Delete the old Android wallet.

The new Android wallet uses an HD schema to generate wallet addresses. If you import the old keys into the new wallet, they are incompatible with the HD schema. They will import, but you will lose the benefits that come with HD.

Also be aware, when importing old keys, the blockchain must sync from the time of the earliest transaction in the wallet. I have an old kitkat tablet that had transactions from 2016, and resyncing took nearly two days. It is admittedly a very slow device, but realize that the sexcoin blockchain generates 1440 blocks per day. This is a LOT of blocks to chew through, even using SPV format. If you are syncing using a data plan with bandwidth caps, this can become an issue (we suggest using wi-fi).

Another option that one of our beta users took advantage of was to use openssl to decrypt the backup file and import the private keys to a regular PC client. You could then create a new HD Android wallet and send the coins from your PC to load it.
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [SXC][NSFW] Sexcoin - New Client! V 0.15.2.2 Upgrade! on: March 21, 2019, 01:34:22 AM
::Update - New Client patch - Sexcoin v0.15.2.2::

We've released a new patch for both Sexcoin V15 and Sexcore-sexcoin. This corrects an issue in how the client builds a merkleblock message, which SPV clients need to confirm blocks on the blockchain. Please upgrade as soon as is convenient. You will NOT need to do anything except replace the executables. Mac clients are being built and should be up by Saturday. Windows / Linux are good to go.

https://github.com/sexcoin-project/sexcore-sexcoin

:: Android!! ::

The new android client is moving along quickly. Our development builds download the blockchain, including merge-mined blocks, and can both send and receive regular transactions. It is also correctly collects live sexcoin pricing and does fiat conversion correctly for hundreds of different currencies.

Age verification needs implemented, as does some of the other extra features we want to see.

Here's a sneek-peek screen-shot of the development build:

::Update::

Sexcore-sexcoin is out!

All you payment guru's can now join the fun and give your payment processors a little Sex-appeal!

https://github.com/sexcoin-project/sexcore-sexcoin

We are really excited to add this piece to our development stable. This enables support of bitpay protocols and also paves the way to more merchant services.

But Wait! There's MORE!

With this release, we are swinging our development time onto the much-needed Android upgrade, and also a slew of node.js modules for sexcoin. Current Android users can rest assured we are going to have you up and running again shortly.

Also note that we are still working to get the network hashpower balanced out. We have hit a couple of walls as far as many pools are concerned, so we have decided its time to appeal to the community. We still believe Sexcoin will get balanced, but we are hoping to make it happen quicker if we ask for some help.  If you have any pool-op's ear, please encourage them to include Sexcoin in their merge-mining operations Let anyone on the dev team know if you need help presenting it to a pool-op.

For anyone who may have missed the news, CoinMarketCap has recommenced polling SexCoin: https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/sexcoin/#markets and our ranking is 1903

That's great news.... More great news is coming!

::State of Sexcoin Address:

With trade reopening on Livecoin together with the fact that we have achieved our goal of obtaining TeraHashes of work on the Sexcoin's blockchain, I think its time to bring everyone up to speed on the state of the coin.

As many of you are aware, in August of last year our blockchain came under a concerted attack of a magnitude which overwhelmed honest mining. This resulted in successful double-spending and block replacement of legitimately mined blocks.  The main reason behind the attack was not so much to screw Sexcoin, but to cause trade accounts on exchanges to become out-of-balance.  In this way the perpetrators were able to sell Sexcoin and withdraw Bitcoin. Then, send the same Sexcoin again, sell them again and again withdraw Bitcoin. This left any exchange unable to detect the out-of-balance condition or the block-replacement underfunded on the Sexcoin side. Something that may be difficult to understand is that the blockchain was vulnerable because of a lack of mining support - not because of a flaw in the Sexcoin code. The blockchain worked as advertised, as did the Sexcoin client.

During one of the attacks we were notified by an Exchange that there was something amiss with the blockchain.  At that time we notified all other exchanges trading SexCoin and advised them to freeze trading until we could find out what was happening.  Most exchanges responded rapidly.  We later confirmed that there were at least 3 very large block reorganizations of over 500+ blocks.  At that point, we knew that the attacks were successful.  These attacks also revealed that the blockchain would continue to be vulnerable until it had sufficient mining support.  We had very little evidence where the attack actually came from - and still don't.

The Sexcoin community had been in discussion about how to deal with the mining issue since the attacks last year.  Because we had already been in discussions the SexCoin Core Team were already heavily leaning toward implementing merge-mining.  But, we had not made a final decision.  Many other solutions still had merit - there were some very strong supporters of switching to POS and also some strong support for an algo switch or multi-algo.  Doing a coin-swap to token based was very appealing because of the user-base many of those chains had.

We notified the community, and began working on implementing merge-mining and segwit. Why?

  • We wanted to continue to be a POW coin.
  • As such, we felt MM (merge-mining) to be the best way to join a larger community, that community being scrypt mining.
  • Sexcoin did not want to have to rely on another coin's blockchain entirely.  If that blockchain went belly-up it would take us with it.  MM gives us the flexibility to be mined with ANY scrypt coin.  So, if one coin fails, Sexcoin can be MM'd with whichever one is garnishing support.  And, who knows? Sexcoin could also be the one helping secure the others!
  • Sexcoin wants to be able to participate in atomic coin-swaps.
  • Sexcoin wants to be capable of taking advantage of other merchant services that are evolving.

In many ways this is a sad time for us. As a POW coin, we very much wanted to make participation in mining available to small miners. The avenues available to acheive that goal carried with them too many pitfalls. MM does have its downsides, but we believe the problems that accompany MM are more managable.

Some very good things have come out of these recent events which have forced sexcoin to take position on a few issues that are relevent to the larger crypto-community:

Firstly: We are taking the position that scrypt mining is a good thing. But, that dividing the global scrypt power is not.  We would encourage other scrypt coins to implement merge-mining.  By dividing the global scrypt power, we weaken the entire system.  It is better to cooperate to secure all the scrypt chains.  We envision a system where all scrypt power is used to secure all scrypt coins.

Secondly: We are going to make every effort to get on decentralized exchange platforms.  We are not saying centralized exchanges are bad - there are some very excellent ones that we are on and they have all done a great deal for Sexcoin.  They also have proven to be instrumental in helping us deal with block-chain issues because they have a dedicated team to monitor, detect and react to blockchain issues.  For this fact, they are essential.  Our push to get on decentralized exchanges is an acknowledgment of this simple fact: The history of exchanges is that they are fantastic, until they are not!  PhoenixEx, CoinEx, Cryptsy, Yobit all performed admirably until they experienced devastating attacks, or succumbed to greed, or just turned into plain assholes.  When whatever event happened, all Sexcoin users lost coins.  I think it would be excessively naive to say it would never happen again. I have personally lost coins in each of these meltdowns as have other members of the SexCoin Core Team.

Thirdly: Segwit is a good thing. But not for the reasons people are currently supporting it.  Segwit opens up the possibility of different ways of exchanging coins in a way that coordinates with the blockchain.  I do not think the potential has been successfully tapped yet. (But the possibilities are exciting!)

Forthly: Sexcoin still holds the vision of an eco-system that does not rely on exchanges. We want sexcoin to be able to be USED as currency with exchanges being merely an extra service should a holder decide to convert.  This was our original vision and that has not changed!  We want to see couples purchasing sex toys and go on swingers' vacations.  We want to see Cam-girls purchasing outfits with sexcoin and event organizers accepting sexcoin. ( Think Mardi Gras or Nudes-a-poppin ... "Ladies Can I tip you?" - "Sure, here's my Andriod QR Code for Sexcoin!"). We want to see resorts purchasing sex furniture while the craftsmen use SexCoin as their preferred medium of exchange.  We want to see providers accepting sexcoin.  Not to convert to fiat, but because of the amount of value that it represents.

We are very encouraged to see merge-mining gathering support. With a sustained 4 Terahashes on the network we can have confidence in the blockchain. The dev team is working hard to secure some balancing hashpower.

We are also about a week away from releasing sexcore-sexcoin, which will allow some very interesting merchant services. After that the Adroid client will be updated.

No issue i was just wondering, i was abit worried about the security at Nova thats why i asked, and i had read a few posts before of complaints

Nova is one of the few exchanges that has handled their problems well. When they made the decision to close down, they notified the community well ahead of time so everyone could get their coins withdrawn. After making that announcement, there was a bid to buy the exchange. They were also fairly transparent about that fact and kept the community informed enough to make good decisions.  A very good example of an exchange that went defunct the right way was safecex. They had to shut their doors, but notified everyone in plenty of time.

I learned the hard way not to keep large amounts of coins in any exchange. When I send coins to an exchange, I no longer have control of the coins because the exchange now has the private key to the address that I sent the coins to. When I send coins to an exchange what's actually happening is a trust agreement, I am saying "Here, I trust you to hold my coins so that I can use them for trading"

Exchanges all have a target printed on their back. They also ALL have disgruntled users who hate and post about anything they don't like.

Take a quick look at some of the posts around here

EDIT: and here

be.sexcoin.info and be2.sexcoin.info are experiencing a recurring bug which prevents them from loading the blockchain correctly. This is a bug in the explorer software, not the blockchain. These two explorers will not be reliable until we can get a fix in.

Is it safe to buy and sell sxc through the markets yet also any change with livecoin?

We've had a sustained hashrate of 4TH/s. Although most of it is coming from one source, all the miners impacting the network are honest miners.
We are working on getting some of that balanced out. I'm fairly certain Livecoin will reopen if we can get that done.

The last communication I had with Livecoin was that they are upgrading to the new client and watching the network.
