661  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANN: BITMAIN has Tested Its 28nm Bitcoin Mining Chip BM1382 on: June 27, 2014, 07:34:18 PM
Basically, from simple maths, 1 CX750 can run a 180GH/s S1 and a 500GH/s S3 with no problem?

S1 normal speed <--- 360W
S3 normal speed <--- 390W

360+390=750

Did I do anything wrong here?

You math is correct. But in practical case you need to allow some free room in between the power supply output and power consumption.
There 360 and 390 are rated power consumption from the manual and they can be lower or higher slightly for each device.
So, I will advice you not to load one S3 and one S1 in to a 750 Supply.
Most probably you may need to undervold and downclock your S1 in 2 months and that will make you run if S3 is not overclocked.
Better take a decision after you secure the S1 and S3 if you already bought the 750 Power Supply Unit.
Else buy a Dell Server PSU and mode it or buy an already moded server psu. Better stick to 1000W or above.

Cool! I got the cx750 for my s1 already. Probs under lock once I get my hands on an s3.

I don't know specifically about the CX750, but with most Corsair PSU's I have used this would not work.  I know it's not advisable, but it just plain may not work at all.  It seems if I load a PSU with multiple miners I need to be at least 10 -15% under the rated wattage or the PSU will just turn on and then off as if overloaded.  Sometimes this is solvable by starting one device, letting it warm up, then adding the second.   But there seem to be safety mechanisms to prevent you from pulling too much juice.  I always try and be 100-200w under the PSU rating.  Then I don't have issues.  For what it's worth....

While I have no problem trolling people for their stupidity, I detest people who lie(like Bick).  Obviously you cannot appreciate the fact that I have never lied in response to a direct question.  When I put facts down, I have done my research and when I have made a mistake, I have owned up to it.  Personally I see 2 possibilities here... PG does tend to be over the top a lot and the writing style is kind of like his, but after seeing his renewed diatribes today I realized who else was missing from the majority of the whole nibbknot debacle... Bick.  For someone who tosses manure as much as he does, I'm kind of amazed he steered clear of this...  Theymos and possibly the moderators can compare IP address of the posts and see the truth, but I'm sure if asked they'd rattle on about the legality of revealing confidential information.

Well for the first time I'm going to see if this ignore button works.
663  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ROCKMINER ASIC miner official thread on: June 27, 2014, 03:22:16 PM
did anybody receive any sample from rockminer?

I got two sample Rockets at the Inside Bitcoin Conference this week in Hong Kong. Here are the pictures:

Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

Really easy to setup, especially with the Rasp Pi image file provided already. Just connect it all up and then access the Rasp Pi via the webUI.

Will leave them running 24 hours and then post results.

Rockxie, still on track to ship out tomorrow?!   Grin

still no news?

Alex from RM confirmed that they are busy shipping at the moment.

No shortage of wires.

Believe what you well, but I truly believe that Nibbknot is PG. Notice you haven't seen Bruno Kucinskas around for awhile have you? All indicators point to Nibbknot being Phinnaeus Gage. Believe what you want. You may still consider me a shill, but at least in my heart of hearts I know I'm telling the truth. I'm done with this guy.

Add this guy to the same psych ward as Josh and diagnose his issues with previous list.  It's from Wikipedia.  I'm sure we can classify him without a real doctor.
Then we can find out what kind of sweet job he has that he can spend all day bitching at himself through various alt personalities.  Of course from a social perspective this is very sad and his life has to be beyond dull.  Dude needs a girlfriend or boyfriend or a dog or something.
Classic.  Has to be a "best of thread" on here somewhere.

As others have eluded to - this miner is for:

-brand new folks testing the water,
-enthusiasts who have collected many if not all USB miners ever made,
-wanna be EE's (and real ones) who like to tinker,
-bitcoin fans who want to mine at work in their cubicle,
-berated husbands whose wife will leave them if they bring another f%&k*! HOT and LOUD machine in the house.
-insert your reason here.

This is not a device you will profit from.  At least not in btc.  While it would be great if demand for these was such that we could make 10,000 units at a time and everyone would profit....that's not going happen.  Our run was for less than 120 and these are the last 30 or so.

But damn.  They are so much fun.  Cheesy Grin Tongue

does anyone know how long it takes for shipments to arrive from china? and does anyone have problems with customs?

thanks!

No custom issues in the US.  Three days via UPS to the west coast.  Pretty fast.

Are there any trustworthy group buys yet for the S3?

Why would you join a group buy when the S3 price is unknown? Last thing your would want to do is commit before knowing that!

No GB is asking commitments yet, with no price and no delivery date and no agreement.  But if you are thinking ahead you will reserve a spot on their list should they get a good rate.  I doubt they will be able to do anything on the first batch.  But after the hype calms down they may have a great deal.
669  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: FIRE SALE - D750 750W Server PSU Breakout Boards on: June 26, 2014, 02:13:09 AM
We still have plenty of boards and full kits available and the sale pricing is continued. These guys should be idea for powering stuff like the RK-Box. Hard to beat 750-800W at 90+% efficient for $55.

I have two spares on hand now waiting for whatever looks good hardware-wise.  Will probably order more, but need to solve for A before figuring out B.  The manufacturers continue to mine and we wait.
670  Bitcoin / Hardware / [ANN] NEW USB MINER - 11-15 Gh/s NANO FURY 6 USB MINER, **$99.99** on: June 25, 2014, 09:24:57 PM
11 Gh/s (stock) Nano Fury 6 USB Bitcoin Miner v0.3

by Moonlight Miner, Design by vs3
Six Chip Bitfury USB ASIC Miner

JULY SPECIAL - 3x NF6 for $255

11 Gh/s Nano Fury II USB Bitcoin Miner v0.3

by Moonlight Miner, Design by vs3
Six Chip Bitfury Rev. 2 USB ASIC Miner

Specs and Info:

  • LOWEST PRICED 11 Gh/s USB MINER AVAILABLE
  • NOT a Pre-Order -- In stock for immediate shipment
  • Each miner contains SIX Bitfury (Rev.2) ASIC Chips
  • Super Easy Install - No additional drivers needed for most computers
  • Requires current version of BfgMiner
  • Overclockable - speed of 11-14.5 Gh/s at 53-55 bits - stability can reduce
with increased speed.  11-12 Gh/s requires 1.2A(amp). +/-10% speed variance due to chip quality.
  • 15 Gh/s speed needs 1.5A per device.  It is unlikely you will be able to utilize each port in a powered USB hub.  In
tests a 10 port "Juiced Systems" USB 3.0 powered hub ran 4 miners and a USB fan comfortably.
  • Miners may exceed 14-15 Gh/s but have NOT been tested above BfgMiner oscillator settings
of 55 bits.  Running at higher speeds may damage the miner and will void the 30 day warranty.
  • Light to medium air circulation required for speeds overclocking.  USB fans work very well.

Info on MAC OS support thanks to Nate Woolls.

We have not tested many hubs conclusively at this point but believe amp capacity to be the only limiting factor.  You can

use USB 2.0 or 3.0 hubs.  3.0's typically have greater capacity.  Please refer to this comprehensive list of hubs that been

tested: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=253749.0

671  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: {BFL} Here's a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOK at your Monarch! on: June 25, 2014, 06:08:24 PM
The flaw in your questioning is assuming what BFL tells you is true.  I would put money on the fact that the Monarch works fine and has been sold in great quantities to large, under the radar, clients.  The retail business is not a priority for BFL, just as it's not priority for BitFury.

EDIT - like most other miner manufacturers, they will sell us their scraps when it makes economic sense for them and not before.  Bitmain being the only exception I have seen.

Sorry, it's and was intended to be a loaded question.  I agree entirely with your sentiments, the question I asked doesn't have an answer short of "We're incompetent/don't know what we're doing/lying".

 Wink

Sometimes sarcasm eludes me.  Here is the only thing I don't get out of BFL.  How does this Josh guy do it?  He posts all over the place.  If I was him I would find the deepest hole I could, dig it down a bit more and lie in it.
Business is based on trust and dependability.  He has neither, but carries himself like...it's all cool.  Utterly blind self confidence I guess?  Delusions of respectability?  I don't understand what he's thinking when he's telling people "we plan on [INSERT FICTIONAL STATEMENT] by Friday.  Then two weeks later he rolls into the next fiction with no mention of any prior statement.  There is something psychopathic in that.
672  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: {BFL} Here's a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOK at your Monarch! on: June 25, 2014, 04:27:00 PM
What kind of shitty Engineers is BFL employing or contracting that you continue to have these elementary problems?  Surely you have the answers since you're an employee of that trainwreck

BFL doesn't care about skills, all you need to do to get a job there is shill for them on BCT.

D's get degrees!  At least that's what I hear.  Although during my time at post-secondary you had to have at least C's to graduate.

I don't know what high school you went to but where I went many students were able to graduate with D's in Junior High and Senior High (post-secondary as you say).

BTC is $575 right now. New S3 prediction price  ..1.4 BTC. Bet

no one will buy at that price.  Anything over 1BTC is too much.  When all the s3's hit the market and other vendor hardware come online diff is going to shoot thru the roof.

DoubleDD

It already is.
675  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANN: BITMAIN has Tested Its 28nm Bitcoin Mining Chip BM1382 on: June 24, 2014, 10:39:21 PM
If they are already mining with the gear then the Network speed will be unaffected as the devices are already currently contributing to the network difficulty regardless of who has them plugged in you or them. I would believe that the delay is more likely an issue of the devices need to have firmware changes after issues were observed in post production testing.

okay.   I am not saying you are wrong.     but does anyone understand what I said?

Diff is 13.46      and there is 100ph of hash.    The day diff is moved to 13.46    2160 blocks are started..  and they should take 10 minutes to solve that is why the diff was moved to 13.46
this happened about 1300 block ago.

So 2 major builders not one announced and then delayed gear.  If it really works and they are 'test' mining  at diff of 13.46   it explains why the block speed is 7.42 blocks per hour not 6 blocks an hour.  they added  a lot of gear not a little bit of gear.  and speed the network from 10 minutes per block to 7.42 minutes per block.

this edge ends when  diff is jumped to 16.2 or so  reducing the block speed back down to 10 minutes.

So we get the gear and it earns less.    Someone has added enough hash to change speed from 10 minutes to 7.42 minutes..  Anyone that wants to think it is not bitmaintech + AM could be correct.

Sp30's and KNC and BFL could be doing it.    If that is the case it is far worse then my idea.   Since AM and bitmaintech added to that will mean 3 rounds of 25%

oh one more player black arrow has gear shipping the x-1 so they may have built and are testing the x-3's.

Fact is since the last diff jump tons and tons of gear has been added.

Regardless of the profit wisdom to mine before you sell, philipma1957 is correct.  An enormous amount of hardware has come on line in the past 5 days or so.  I have no way of knowing for sure, but given the block speed I would guess it's very likely more than one company.

the thing is, if they release their official price tomorrow and adjust their website for orders I dont think alot of people here will want to wait around (myself included)

I can see 50% or more jumping ship and just buying direct

Agreed.  But it depends what kind of price a bulk order can get.  If it's a good miner, most of us will buy a couple over the next few weeks.
So this might be good for a second, third, or whatever, miner.

@ Waldohoover - Forgive me I did not read every page.  Have you had any contact with Bitmain yet?

Regarding an official price, not yet. I believe they haven't finalized their prices as of yet and will not do so until right before their site goes live. This obviously doesn't do us any good but Bitmain isn't stupid. I know they are steadily watching their announcement thread (and maybe here) for the speculative price talk that is going on. I'm sure a lot of that talk gets considered when they do price out their miners. I could be wrong though but as a manufacturer who is for the community I'm sure they do not throw out the idea of community agreed pricing.

I would not be at all surprised it they know the price, it's been set for more than a week, and they only take a cursory look at the speculation thread.  I'm not sure they are that into us.
678  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANN: BITMAIN has Tested Its 28nm Bitcoin Mining Chip BM1382 on: June 20, 2014, 07:27:28 PM
After all these pages of speculation, I'm guessing a lot more thought has gone into the S3 pricing on this thread than there is at Bitmain Corp. HQ.
These guys probably took 30 seconds to come with a price 2 weeks ago and that's what they will go with.
