2801  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Isn't Islam a religion of hate and violence, not peace and love? on: February 14, 2017, 04:50:25 PM
Like Christianity, Jeudaism and most other major religions, Islam is founded on principles of violence (and more so, intolerance).  However this should not be used to attack the people who follow the religion.  The vast majority of Muslims in the West are tolerant people and if you dislike religious people based on just one part of their character you ignore the rest of their lives.

When people go and protest against Islam or against Muslims they are harbouring a battle because innocent people, rightly, feel personally attacked.  This creates a cycle of hatred which potentially results in violence and more hatred between two sides who both believe they have a moral high ground when neither ever did.
2802  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Would you eat a human? on: February 14, 2017, 04:25:37 PM
In my opinion the only thing that matters here is consent.  If the human I'm eating told me that they would be happy for me to eat them, I would consider it. But then if they tasted bad I wouldn't continue.
2803  Other / Off-topic / Re: What do you think about immortality? on: February 14, 2017, 04:15:44 PM
I think that the afterlife is in itself immortality and therefore people who are religious should not be worrying about immortality, especially when one of the main ideas for achieving it is uploading one's mind to a different existence which is essentially what the afterlife is.

However, as an atheist I believe that immortality is impossible.  Preventing ageing could be possible as the main cause of age is cells which is may be possible to replicate. However, to protect ourselves from external threats is what's impossible because there are always threats powerful enough to destroy the fragile human body or even enhanced organisms.
2804  Economy / Service Discussion / How can I spot Ponzi schemes? on: February 14, 2017, 04:02:49 PM
I'm pretty new to Bitcoin and the idea of cloud mining seems pretty appealing. However I keep hearing about Ponzi schemes which rely entirely on new members to stay alive.  Besides the blindingly obvious, what are the main signs that a service might be a Ponzi?
2805  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: When do I need to change my bitcoin addressand why? on: February 14, 2017, 03:01:56 PM
I've been told by some articles that I should change my bitcoin address regularly, and some even suggest that I should change it after every purchase.  Can I have your advice on how to keep my addresses safe? Also, can anyone explain to me why I need to keep changing the address, since they can't send bitcoin without access to my wallet?
This advice to change addresses for every transaction has its motive only in privacy.
You can use all the time same address, but anyone who you transact with, will be able to track your spending for years (assuming you used this address for couple years). Privacy is only concern here, not security.
So if I'm not doing anything illegal or embarrassing with my Bitcoin, I'm safe with the same address? Or is it more complicated than that? Also, where are these transactions logged?
2806  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / What do you think of people that treat Bitcoin solely as an investment? on: February 14, 2017, 02:47:35 PM
I've seen a lot of people arguing that Bitcoin can be profitable because of its volatility and convenience, but sometimes I feel that people using Bitcoin as an investment have little enthusiasm for its main use as a means of trading without an intermediary.

Under what circumstances should Bitcoin be treated as investment and to what extent should people think about its use as a global currency?
2807  Other / Meta / Re: How to be a mod? on: February 14, 2017, 02:28:39 PM
I wouldn't put effort into becoming a mod because then it would be manufactured and possibly annoying.  If you're an active and mature member of the forum maybe mods will approach you but I wouldn't think about it too much as there's nothing to say on the topic except the obvious.
2808  Other / Politics & Society / Re: How do you decide when someone's a Nazi? on: February 14, 2017, 02:03:46 PM
Well you're a "nazi" when you firmly believe that the aryan race exists and is superior to other individuals and deserve to dominate the others.

By extension i guess you could qualify as a nazi everyone who believes the same thing but about another race. I
Nazi is now a word use for people who are in fact kind of "superracists" believing the sacred race should clearly dominate and/or destroy the other races.
Based on that then, was Richard Spencer a Nazi?
2809  Other / Politics & Society / How do you decide when someone's a Nazi? on: February 14, 2017, 01:32:50 PM
This is a bit late but you guys remember when Richard Spencer got punched in the face? I saw a lot of people on one side talking about not hitting someone for disagreeing with you and some people saying he deserved it for being a Nazi. So I was wondering, what do you think makes them a Nazi rather than just nasty?
2810  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What is altcoin used for? on: February 14, 2017, 01:25:58 PM
Sometimes altcoins can be trying to improve the basic principles of bitcoin for better exchanges, especially the obvious ones like Ethereum. Some of the smaller ones are pretty useless though and tend to just be used for an exchange with bitcoin. Those ones seldom get anywhere and are super high risk if you invest in them.
