321  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: conspiracy about today's crash on: June 11, 2011, 09:10:07 PM
it was down for me too and for a few other people.

see this discussion on a different (new) forum http://www.bitcoinforums.net/index.php?threads/price-crash-and-other-forum-down.49/

not sure if it was up for others in the US or elsewhere at the time.

Assuming 7168 Tesla S1070 (the highest Mhash/s Tesla GPU) that would give ~1111 Ghash/s (7168 * 155 Mhash/s)
https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison

About 1/6 of the current network hash rate.
323  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Almost one per cent of the bigcoins in circulation were released today! on: June 11, 2011, 07:02:40 PM
release of 1% causes a 110% price drop....
Check your math, a 110% drop would mean the price went negative.

yeah dropped so far they're paying people to take them. where can I sign up Grin
324  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What`s going on with the price? on: June 11, 2011, 06:38:11 PM
17k blocks... somebody got married and bought a house, or divorced and bought a Ferrari Smiley

over a third of a million USD...

maybe both!  Shocked

Well, probably more like $200k.  I'm sure he reported it as a gain and paid the taxes on it.

if you successfully mine a block could that be considered like a lottery win? not sure in the US, but where I'm from lottery wins are tax free

what i'm asking for is a site that i can regularly check this graph update.

sorry, I just did it manually. Not automated and I'm not a coder so not that easy for me to automate it. (yet anyway)

it's pretty volatile alright.

chart up to 8th June 2011 - didn't download the data for last few days yet.

An early adopter cashed out 17K+ BTC all at once, driving price down from 20 to 13. It's back up to 18+ now.

May I ask how you know this? Were you watching the price feed when this happened? I wish I could've seen that in action if what you say is true.

However, I'm surprised this supposed early adopter dumped so many all at once. Wouldn't it have been much smarter if he sold in small amounts over a period of time.

large transfer here

lot of the inputs look like block rewards, some from early blocks

330  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A BitCoin StackExchange - please follow it! on: June 11, 2011, 11:26:42 AM
You're right. Edited the sig again.
331  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A BitCoin StackExchange - please follow it! on: June 11, 2011, 11:16:48 AM
I've changed my forum sig to promote this. Others could maybe do the same to try to get the word out. Part of the problem is that with so many threads most people don't know about this thread or the proposed stack exchange.
332  Other / Meta / Re: The forum is officially useless. on: June 11, 2011, 02:07:08 AM
going to give this a plug.

isn't buttcoin a satirical site on all things bitcoin.  doubt it's true.
335  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: More trade on MtGox since start of June compared to all previous trade combined on: June 10, 2011, 10:06:21 PM
Wow, impressive. After the record volume of 2 days ago, it has held up well.

So well in fact that over that last 3 days (8, 9 and 10 June 2011) over 1/3 of the total volume in US$ ever traded on MtGox has been traded. Oh yeah, did I mention today isn't even over yet. MtGox must be raking in the fees.

Updated graph below.

~$260k - you could buy a house for that.

and to think not too long ago 12000BTC would just get you some pizza and perhaps a drink if you were lucky.

337  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Most people are not capable of keeping their wallets safe? on: June 09, 2011, 09:50:13 PM
would it be possible or useful to back up everyones wallet somehow in an encrypted form in the block chain such that it would always be an up to date backup and also accessible from anywhere running bitcoin. you would be forced to use a strong password/phrase somehow.

maybe a completely stupid idea. just seems appealing that you could go to any computer with bitcoin on it, enter you're passphrase and voila, you have access to your wallet.  actually just writing this now thinking that this would be pretty stupid as there could be all sorts of spyware/key loggers on an unknown computer.
338  Other / Obsolete (buying) / Re: will pay 2 BTC for 1 BTC with traces of that pizza on it on: June 09, 2011, 08:01:23 PM
so, I'm guessing block 170 http://blockexplorer.com/b/170 is the first transfer from one address to another?

had a look at some of the previous blocks (but not all 170) and didn't see any transactions.
339  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / More trade on MtGox since start of June compared to all previous trade combined on: June 09, 2011, 07:50:50 PM

I think the title and graph say it all. Shows how astonishing everything bitcoin related has been. And we're just getting started.
