What is bitcoin backed by?
Bitcoin the currency is backed by blockchain the ledger, with everyone's holdings. The blockchain is in turn is backed by decentralized replication, consensus, advanced cryptography and enormous computing power. Result: virtual gold. Sorry, I missed one word, it should be "What is bitcoin's value backed by?" Already corrected in the OP. Value is decided by demand and supply, it is less related to technology. Even if you have most advanced technology in the world, if no one want it, it worth nothing. There are some other maybe more advanced coin designs, but since the demand has all been attracted to bitcoin, they did not succeed The value backed by trust. There are many ways to modify the demand and supply. It is not easy to follow but it is. |

When price goes down People say xx sold their thousands of bitcoins so price went down
Stupids, if they sold it, someone bought it too..
When price goes up, people say, someone bought thousands of bitcoins so price went high
Stupids, they bought it because someone sold them..
Now tell me why price goes up down.
Ironic that you have posted this in the Economics section yet clearly have no understanding of the Economics of any market, let alone Bitcoin. Here is why price moves:- New information Uncertainty Psychological Factors Fear Greed Supply and Demand Many people are not so stupid, just guess wrongly. |

除非自己能做个性能超高的矿机，否则挖矿没前途。道理很简单，你会卖印钞机给别人吗？那会让你印出的钞票贬值
我們也許知道該東西重視甚麼, 但問題是, 要製造一個模具, 沒有一百萬美金是不行. |

多虑了。CPU转向GPU的时代（两年前），就有人像楼主一样担心了。
可事实上，ASIC矿工，可能是对比特币贡献最大的，没有他们，比特币的全网算力不可能一下子涨到现在这种情况。
要看如何分配而定. 現在的專用礦機, 只有少量是分散的. 故然是擔心. 但若果沒有一批人固定下來的話, 整個系統會不穩. 現在問題在分配, 信用上. 與機器無關. |

What do you guys think of these guys? https://www.cloudhashing.comOffering 10Ghs starting in September. Is it in any way a good idea to jump on board? They claim a return of 50BTC for essentially 10BTC (to keep it easy) ... though if you pump the figures into coinish calc, it tells you tou will make about 2BTC profit over two years on its default mode. If you put in difficulty increases of 15% then its never. Still... i'm tempted. Certainly not going to get an asic any time soon. Thoughts? Someone talk me out of it. :-) You are on bad time as cloudhashing used to provide 0.11 BTC giveaway program for early birds, Suggest not to do this at this moment |

you are totally right pal, that could be a problem for Miner Manufacturers ;(
Negative, why these people keep selling the bad stuff out? I used to take a deeper look as I used to believe BFL helps me a little. But it is not once it is ready. BFL is fully ready on June. GETTING worse... Normally, these people seldom accept your request as the production line is ready written. Or mentioned before you order due to procurement and preparation |
