Firewall problem?
2  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: First Mining rig on: April 12, 2013, 08:47:46 PM
Been using my work ring with only a GTX 560 that hashes around 55MHash over at Slush's. I think my cooling isn't that great cuz latetly it's been blue screening alot.

So I'm curious to read what people recommend for a rig, although I'm saving up for a BFL Jalepeno, if they ever ship!

Yeah, a 7950 could do about 500Mh/s for nearby same electricity.

That's pretty cheap actually... might be worth plugging it in to my extra PCI-E and leave the 560 for display.
It is, 200 bucks each. I changed all my old cards in my rigs to 7950ies. That was worth it. Old cards sold on ebay for 50-100 bucks. Worked.

overall if you want anything to do with mining its got to be a ATI card anything after ATI my
True. Get an actual card, dont buy old crap. Nvidia is nothing I would prefer.

ASICs will most likely be too expensive for the casual miner. there will most likely be GPU mining for a while, it just won't be particularly profitable.

200-300 bucks for a 5gh miner? A good card costs more and does just maybe 20% of it. ASICs will screw the difficulty.

There just sites that require you to submit a form to earn free Bitcoins.

Is this some kind of sick joke? Look at the site!

Even frontpage had better themes.

I've got a my lifes savings in currency and BTC in there.
Wooha. Thats a problem. But to be honest, BTCs are just an experiment. I wouldn't bet anything on just one card. Always be aware, such a thing can allways drop to 0.0 and is worthless.

Im a lot more concerned about the euro that was there than the BTC, about 60 BTC, euro was a lot more. I could only withdraw 5k a day on the daily limit. My life is over if this guy doesnt come back.

This sounds odd. Wish you all the best buddy.

So I'm new here and I'm wondering about some of the members first rigs and any advice on setting up a decent first mining rig they might like to part with  Smiley

Wait two months and ask again. ASICs are upcoming.

You can use Coinly to easily visit all of the free Bitcoin sites at the click of a button.
is it really worth doing this?

To keep it simple: no. Wink
11  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: FREE BITCOIN Sites *and* Free Newbie Lotto on: April 12, 2013, 08:00:02 PM
Out of curiosity, does anyone ever get anything about the standard giveaways on coinad or dailybitcoins?

I've not been able to get anything above .00001 in weeks!

Free sites are just "nice to have" and to test it out, how the whole stuff works. I dont think you will get free coins you expect from free sites.
12  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Troubles with GUIminer on: April 12, 2013, 07:56:55 PM
I think I'll just give up on this and continue using the extremely simple BitcoinPlus. It does the same thing basically just slower and with less profit. But with cheap electricity maybe I can make some semblance of BTC over a few years. This mining is too complicated for me to understand Sad

Umh, hurry up. The ASICs are coming. Wink
13  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: GUIminer on: April 12, 2013, 07:55:38 PM
Thank you.

I already ordered a 7870 two days ago Wink
Yes, I monitored my GPU temperatures, everything green (55°C @ 99% usage)

The card is working again (I wrote the post above by using onboard vga).

It seems, that its the mainboard or CPU which was damaged...
I get the first pictures on the monitor after I logged into Windows. (also no UEFI screen with onboard or grafic card so i dont think its a OS/Software issue)
I already checked the RAM, next will be CPU with prime.

Any furhter ideas?

Umh, just to mention, you could get two 7950ies. These are much cooler than the 7870ies.

I use guiminer cause I thought it would be easy to setup but I think more work needs to be done here. Don't know exactly what I have to do though. like why does it say this:
Code:
using JSON-RPC (no stratum header)
I have no clue what it means. I just want to be able to connect and get this to work, then I can actually consider a hardware upgrade if I decide to get serious.

cgminer cant be easier to setup:

cgminer -o http://pit.deepbit.net:8332 -u USERNAME -p PW

Thats it. Working here since ages.

What does that mean? Where do I input this to make it work?

Just download cgminer from http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/
Unzip tze folder to any location and create a .bat file in this folder containing the line:
cgminer -o http://pit.deepbit.net:8332 -u USERNAME -p PW
Use your creds as USER and PW. Run the bat file. thats it.
15  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: poor Mhash performance of 7970 using Phoenix 2.0 on: April 12, 2013, 07:51:14 PM
my OC is 1100/1500 but can go as high as 1200/1600. that's not the issue.

i guess i should just try another miner? the pool i'm apart of reccomends pheonix 2.0, bitcoinpool.com.

i'll try to figure out cgminer in the meantime, anyone have any info about flags?

where's the turbo button? xD

I use cgminer with couple of 7950ies doing about 500Mh/s each on deepbit. 330Mhash/sec is not what you want.

Okay, I opened port 8332 (hopefully correctly) and the console readout has changed a little

Code:
2013-04-12 15:38:40: Listener for "Default" shutting down

It is now stuck connecting. Please help, I have looked all over and everywhere says its really easy but it isn't. Obviously something extra needs to be done here. Thanks

Any reason to hang on poclbm? I use cgminer and deepbit without any probs on win and linux.

takes ages to get whitelisted anyways <.<
You can work on it. E.g. quote to his one. Wink
