quite interesting.  Would like to know how their diskless boot works.
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Moving mining equipment into a shop - a couple questions on: March 15, 2018, 03:18:41 AM
Hey all.

Looking to move and possibly expand my miners to a spot in my father’s shop (in the process of trying to get a 400 amp single phase 220 circuit added) over the summer and have a couple questions.

The plan is to put my miners in the back corner of a metal building – there are 2 large garage doors (RV sized) and then 3 windows on the opposite side.  The ceilings are 20+ feet tall.  I am planning on putting my miners in a ~10x~6 area in one corner of the building (where the current dog pen is now).

Please see the link below for pictures and a small video to get a better idea about the space.
http://mu.org/~youngqui/shop/

My plan was to use one of the windows and put in a big intake fan, and then on the other window put a big exhaust fan.  Or, I’ve thought about just putting two big exhaust fans on each window.  Thoughts on which one might be better?  I live in Missouri and it does get quite hot in the summer, so exhausting the heat out as fast as possible with 2 exhaust fans seems to make more sense to me

Since the ceiling is so high (and hot air rises) and there would be a large part of the space I wouldn’t be using, would it make since for me to try to build a small 10x6x8 ft room for my mining gear (I was planning on buying a cheap metal shed or could just add some plywood to the dog pen that is already there) or don’t worry about the heat – let it rise and then the exhaust fans will suck it out?

I will probably add between 10kw – 30kw worth of miners for now.

Next thing is electrical – should I have the electrician add 30, 50, or 60 amp outlets?  My thought was I’d add 50/60 amp outlets and just get some mondo PDUs, or would it be better just to go with multiple 30 amp circuits and hopefully cheaper PDUs?  Any good place you would recommend at finding good, cheap used/refurb PDUs other than ebay?

Appreciate any thoughts you can provide.

3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Octominer B8PLUS 8 PCIe Slot Mining Board (Motherboard, integrated CPU) on: February 17, 2018, 06:12:15 PM
So this morning I took the time to move my 4 1080tis from biostar 12 GPU board (which was a pain to get all 4 cards working) to the octominer board.

It was very easy to get up and running and I'm impressed.  A little troubleshooting, but no pulling out my hair trying to figure out why the cards wouldn't work with risers.  Also, I didn't have to make any modifications to the octominer board bios before I started hashing.  Right now running Windows 10 with Awesome Miner, (using a SATA SSD) but might try hiveos sometime.

Only have 4 cards and left a space between them, but I could see it be quite tight with all 8 cards.

Would be interested in hearing folks that are using all 8 1080ti cards "open air" without a case - how are you getting rid of the heat? Right now I just have a box fan on top.

Here's a pic of my setup (pardon the mess)

Got my package today.  Haven't unboxed it yet.

Good to hear there are some people who already received their packages!! Those who already have  their MOBOS please send pics with GPUS installed and say what model/brand is installed!! I am getting excited!!

Cool.  One thing I'm interested in and am going to test out with the one motherboard I ordered is cooling.

Rather than getting a case with a bunch of fans, I'm wondering if an "open air rig" with a box fan in front (and maybe in back) would give enough airflow.  My idea is to get a metal rack (ie. one you can find off of amazon/lowes) and put several miners on the shelves.  Directly in front of the shelves would be a stack of box fans - one stacked on top of another. Will probably build a wooden frame so I can easily stack them and put them in a wooden rame.  On the back, thinking about having a bunch of box fans again, or just a big exhaust fan (the one I have right now in my basement is 3,000 CFM) to suck the hot air out.

If you have a box fan, would appreciate any tests you could do with the 1080tis and putting the box fan in front of the motherboard/GPUs on the highest fan setting.

I'm not opposed to buying a case with fans, just trying to figure out of there is an easier/cheaper way to cool a rig - especially running multiple rigs.

Or if you/anyone has any other thoughts, please let me now.

I will be getting these 1080 TI's. Will post results when I get them Smiley

Would be interested in the brand/model of the 1080TIs that you are getting to do testing with.  I would like to get some 1080tis or some of the new Nvidia cards when/if they come out and I can get my hands on some.

I think we will be using an open air frame setup, but I know I would take the 35 db fans at 63C over the 60 db fans at 56C every day.

On GTX 1060 the quieter fans are fine for cooling but I think on 1080's or Vega 56's the only option is to go with high power ones that are loud. I am still waiting for my shipment of 1080TI's to arrive to do some testing with them.

So here's a URL with a list of various 1080ti cards.

https://www.geforce.com/whats-new/articles/geforce-gtx-1080-ti-custom-graphics-card-roundup

So you would recommend ones that have a size of "2 slots"

Of the ones listed, which models would work the best with your motherboard?

Thanks.

I recommend you get 1080ti's that are less than 4CM thick and don't have backplates. The backplate keeps too much heat on the backside of the card and the next card will suck it in with the fan.

We might develop a 12/13 card board later in the year. Thanks for the feedback.  Smiley

4GB and 8GB SO DIMM DDR4 ram sticks will be added to the website later today. We will have the best price on the market  Smiley Smiley

Just bought one as a test.  On the website you mention thickness of the cards.  Looking to add some 1080ti cards.  Any thoughts as to which ones would work the best/provide the best airflow?

Also, any thoughts on creating a board that has 12/13 GPU capability?  It would be a very long board, but if one could just pop in a bunch of cards and not have to worry about troubleshooting risers, might be worth looking into.

Finally, any 8 gig RAM recommendations with links to order some?

Thanks
9  Economy / Computer hardware / [WTB] INNOSILICON A5 on: January 05, 2018, 08:04:23 PM
Looking to see if there are any A5s for sale.

19.3gh/s D3's seem to be going for around 1,200-1,300 dollars on ebay (and that's ebay price) so could pick up 2 D3s for around 2,400-2,600 that would have a higher combined hash rate than the A5.  Already have a couple D3s, so looking for an A5.

Nicehash has the D3 at ~6 dollars per day profit (.10usd/kwh) and the A5 at ~15 dollars per day profit (.10usd/kwh).

PM me your price - please consider the information I provided above.

Must use escrow.  Been burned too many times by mining companies/individuals.

Will pay in LTC, Dash or some other crypto which doesn't have a high fee - will be agreed upon with seller.

Will pay the escrow fee if you provide a good price.

Would need to be shipped to Missouri.

Thanks.

donno when it will be available to trade...where did you hear Jan 15th?

downloaded and installed. As I understand, we can not trade it until 15'th of Jan. right?
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain looks like they're releasing a 15GH/s DASH miner called the AntMiner D3 on: January 04, 2018, 06:19:41 AM
yes.

D3 settings
URL:  stratum+tcp://eu1.miningpool.shop:3533#xnsub
Worker:  (B2X Wallet Address) - download it from here http://b2x-segwit.io/
Password:  c=B2X,d=96,n=DashMiner1

once your wallet syncs (takes forever) you should see your transactions...

Now, selling B2X onto an exchange is another thing completely...haven't been able to do that yet.

anybody can mine B2X successfully? If yes how?
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain looks like they're releasing a 15GH/s DASH miner called the AntMiner D3 on: January 04, 2018, 04:52:41 AM
ok...this B2X crypto - looking for exchanges that support it.  Can only find 2 - YoBit and HitBTC, but when I goto deposit to get a deposit address, get an error or that it is in maintenance.  So how is trading actually being done if one can't even deposit B2X on an exchange?  Am I missing something?

16  Economy / Computer hardware / [WTB] bulk 6+2 pin PCIE cables on: December 23, 2017, 09:37:09 PM
Hey.

Looking for a place to buy 16 AWG (or thicker) braided copper 6+2 pin PCI-E cables in bulk.   Must be high quality cables/crimps.

Also would like the ability to have the cables be various length (not sure what lengths I need yet).

If you know of a good U.S. based website that sells these cables in bulk, please let me know.  Must accept paypal/credit card and fast shipping.
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 19GPU B250 Expert users, UNITE! on: December 02, 2017, 02:40:58 PM
How are you getting 21 cards to work on a motherboard that has 19 PCIE slots?  Using some kind of spliter?  If so, what kind?

How long does it take the system to boot?

Would any you that have gotten 19 or even the elusive 21 cards to work post the products you use in order to get it to work?

I'd love to build a 19 GPU monster, but have been having trouble with trying to get more than 4 GPUs to work on the biostar 12 GPU motherboard.

Thanks.

18  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Natural Gas Portable Mining Unit on: November 19, 2017, 01:38:17 AM
bump.

Would be interested in how much money a natural gas setup would cost along with cost of maintenance for 1 year.  Don't have cheap electricity where I am.  It's around in the 11-15 cents per kwh which is a bit a bit above average - more in the summer.  Know that natural gas is cheaper, but don't know how the cost would compare to electricity, especially factoring in the cost of  a natural gas generator/maintenance.

So I don't know what questions to ask, but has anyone contacted the company and gotten any good/decent answers?

ie. who started the company and their background, questions about the chips/chip manufacturing process, etc.

20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ETH Rig, D3, L3+, or S9s where would you invest and why? on: October 18, 2017, 01:23:19 PM
So today is October 18th 2017.  Was wondering if the list below has stayed the same or if there have been some changes.

CryptoCrane basically said it all, but I would add GPU rigs in the list like this.

(Best)
AntMiner L3+
AntMiner D3
Nvidia rig(1060/1070/1080Ti)
AMD rig(RX470/570/48/580)
AntMiner S9
(Worst)

The reason I take Nvidia over AMD is that it does better on more algorithms than AMD. AMD is only unfairly good at ethash coins because of its price and power draw. Other than that, it's just like shit.
PS: If you can't get the GPUs at a cheap price, don't even bother.
