How to get the network difficulty per coin or pool?

I am using cgminer with multiple pools for different coins. Then using the API to control which pool is currently active (all sha256). But, I want to query a particular coins current difficulty. Is it possible?

the pool command gives output like http://pastie.org/private/c2qa7mv7dsncpnyxkcryoa for each pool. No difficulty.
the coin command gives

Code:
{u'COIN': [{u'Current Block Hash': u'xxxxSNIPxxxx',
   u'Current Block Time': 1371063749.732006,
   u'Hash Method': u'sha256',
   u'LP': True,
   u'Network Difficulty': 295934.4819144}],
 u'STATUS': [{u'Code': 78,
   u'Description': u'cgminer 3.1.1',
   u'Msg': u'CGMiner coin',
   u'STATUS': u'S',
   u'When': 1371064803}],
 u'id': 1}

Which i presume belongs to the current active pool (ppcoin).

Q1: Is it possible to get 'Network Difficulty' in pool output?
Q2: Is it possible to create our own "coin" objects and associate pools to a coin? If so how?

Apologies if its been asked before, i couldn't find a solution.
502  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGMINER ASIC FPGA GPU overc monit fanspd RPC linux/win/osx/mip/r-pi 3.2.1 on: June 12, 2013, 03:24:06 PM
The --usb command gives you finer control over this. The --device command only takes one set of values now (-d 0-1 instead of -d 0 -d 1) and only works for usb devices since version 3.2.1, and it is a coarse command.

I went ahead and tried it now.

"--usb 5:1,5:2" in one instance
"--usb 3:1,3:2" in the other instance

Both hashing away just fine.  Now I can more objectively compare pools.
Thanks,
Sam

Is that all that is necessary to run multiple instances or is there other "secret sauce"?  What do  the number mean?

i believe the number is bus:device.

so "5:1" means device 1 on bus 5. on linux lsusb shows you the bus and device number for each usb device.

505  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Work in progess] Burnins Avalon Chip to mining board service on: June 11, 2013, 05:21:41 PM
I'm thinking about how to power a 16 board stack. If, for example I have 1000W ATX-PSU with 4x 12V 6-pin PCI-e connectors, with max. 40A each. Every PCI-e connector has 3x 12V and 3x ground cables afaik. Does anyone know if the 3x 12V and 3x ground cables can be merged to a single cable respectively (prallel connection) to get the 40A on one wire? Or is it a problem because of the internal circuitry of the PSU?

AFAIK the grounds can be merged with any other ground...

For 12V i dunno. Get a single rail PSU then, no confusion at all Smiley
506  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Work in progess] Burnins Avalon Chip to mining board service on: June 11, 2013, 05:12:46 PM
Burnin is there a way for you to create a stencil for this PCB for us DIY guys so we can apply solder paste through the stencil. This would make it much easier for those that want to assemble there PCB's themselves. I have 750 or so chips coming in and this would make it much easier.

My manufacturer doesn't use stencils for the solder paste.
But there are a ton of laser-stencil services out there where you could order your stencils online and locally.
The pad count is close to 2000, its not going to be cheap.
And 341 Parts per board is not for the faint of the heart either.
I'll see if I can find a stencil maker that gives discounts on larger quantities, but don't get your hopes up.

So when one orders a couple of miners and supports the needed chips one will get a miner with cooling solution. What exactly has to be provided on top to make it work? Cables to stack the miner? PSU? Notebook/Raspberry Pi? What exactly do i have to buy on top to make this work?

I'll include one micro-usb cable per 16 boards, the stacking cable has to be bought separately though.
(But I recommend to just DIY, its easy)

Whats needed:
  • Power supply that provides 12V (Standard-ATX, Brick, other)
  • something that can run cgminer. (Computer, RaspPi, Wifi-Router, NAS, Laptop)
  • Stacking cable, if using more then 1 board
  • Cool place to put the boards, where no one runs into or steps on them (would hurt more then lego!)

I am thinking about an optimal solution right to build these.

With 16 pieces, it will be impractible to use a single PSU concerning cables. Will there a solution using a Power Supply Board? I was thinking about a Board similar to enterpoints one?

I was thinking about this:

http://enterpoint.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/Power-Distribution-Board-650x404.jpg

In fact, you could probably use exactly that one, if I am not mistaken. However, for custoemrs from Germany like me, it would be nice to have a board like this prebuilt. The other solution is in fact getting a PSU that has a very high number of modular slots or daisy chaining the 12v. I am careful about daisy chaining 12v cables nowadays Wink

Im using these for my ztex boards : http://www.cardreaderfactory.com/shop/atx-to-lancelot-power-adapter.html

Basically u hook in atx to it and you have 20 pairs of 12v contacts, and bonus some 5v ones which i currently dont use, but will use to power USB hubs, raspberry pi.

Taking into account the skyrocketing difficulty increase, these things won't even break even after a year of continuous mining.

Why are we buying these again?

I asked the same question, ASICMINER claim to have sold 4,000 units, that's, right 4,000 x .3GH/s = 1,200GH/s

I just laughed. That's 8,000BTC wasted, you realize how much hashing power you could get from Avalon or BFL for that money? Had you bought 20 x 66GH/s Avalon boxes for 75BTC each and set up a community farm, you would be hashing more than the entire network of Block Erupters, and saved yourself around 5,500BTC. I can't believe that so many people have been sucked in by what is clearly the ASIC ripoff of all time!

AsicMiner is most blessed company ever. How the fuck they manage to make so many people blinded is a joke to talk to your grandsons about. They're making at least 150$ on a product unit that probably won't ever make a roi for buyers yet people are throwing money on them. Bloody unbelievable.

It's the only ASIC product you can buy with the click of a mouse, that's called novelty.  People aren't buying these to make money, they just want to embrace the technology.

No point explaining... Its a lost cause.. Some people just dont see anything beyond ROI...
509  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Raspberry Coins - Cyclone V - 28nm based FPGA miner on: June 11, 2013, 03:25:51 AM
Don't you think ~10 BTC for ~1 GH/s is a little steep?

Considering i can get 3 of those ASICMINER usb dongles for ~7 BTC which does ~1 GH/s and probably use a lot less power... < 10W including hubs and a pi to mine them with. And this i can get in ~3 days in my hands to mine with.
510  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Klondike] Case design thread for K16 on: June 11, 2013, 02:40:02 AM

I can bet anyone 1 satoshi that no datacenter is gonna accept a unit so dense. Personally i think its a little dangerous.
511  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Klondike] Case design thread for K16 on: June 11, 2013, 02:36:53 AM
Just look at a 1U heatsink fan on a typical Xeon. Even if the CPU is only 90W, you'll have a 45dba centrifugal heatsink for that ONE cpu, using a solid copper heatsink.

1U sounds noiser than vaccum cleaner when booting up or full load... Got one to office once to debug. Everyone looked up shocked when i turned the sucker on...
Yep. And thats for what, 100-200W? Imagine the density of some of the designs we've seen here.

Not all 1U servers are 100W... or 200W... come on. Average what 200 to 400W.

And I guess I shouldn't have bogarted the thread with a 1U server... we are supposed to be talking K16 Casing.

We're guessing at what he just dragged into his office. I doubt he has a super dense 400W 1U server in a work space lol. Have fun trying to use a phone.

My comments were actually made in regard to http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee106/PFC4L1FE/MOCK_zps134cc5d8.png

Nah it wasnt super dense... I still have that box collecting dust for sentimental reasons (decomissioned years ago and i cant use it for fun cause noisy). I will look up PSU capacity and let u know. I believe its one of the early xeons with hyperthreading, and the board fits 2 cpus, but has only 1 installed.

i believe when booting up all fans, etc are set to max rpm... before the controllers/sensors come online... but still noisy in moderate usage.

You have 2 kinds of people. Ones ( like Bicknellski) who plan on putting it in dedicated room where people wont be working, and dont mind the noise.... and people (like me) who would probably have one running in my bedroom or office and a vaccum cleaner would drive me nuts, but at the same time dont mind leaving it left caseless and MacGyvering external airflow...

Without any knowledge of thermodynamics... id guestimate atleast 2 120mm fans worth of airflow to remove heat from 4 K16 (128W)... with ambient < 25C

Most phones/tablets actually expose a USB OTG port (cable detect switching from USB device to USB host), which most certainly can be used as a USB host so long as the kernel supports it and you use a USB OTG host cable.

64 chips @ 0.12 BTC = 7.68 BTC

But this should really happen in the auctions section where posts cant be edited....
517  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Block Eruptor on: June 10, 2013, 09:39:38 PM
So, if I buy one of these things, and use it at work, heres my question.

I am unable to use any bitcoin clients that need to download the blockchain (firewall), so, if I plus this into my computer, will it work?  Or do I have to be able to open specific ports on my computers firewall (which I cannot do)

To answer your particular question.... it depends... you would most likely not be able to use any stratrum pools, but the pools using longpoll (esp if it runs on port 80) should be fine... ymmw ... but if your computers firewall only allows certain authorized programs to use internet... then you probably cant get a mining application to talk to the pool...
518  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Buying ASIC Units in bulk - 1 million USD budget on: June 10, 2013, 04:51:46 PM
Rumor is they only sent 30 chips out instead of 10k to people. Today they did send out an update via email though which promising.

i don't know which rumor mill you feed off... but the mixup was not that they sent 30 chips instead of 10k.

Avalon had indicated earlier that they would send 30 sample chips per 10k chips ordered. The mixup was that they were sending 30 sample chips to per buyer irrespective of order volume. That mixup has been clarified... and attributed to communication problems...
519  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: 50 GH/s BFL Single SC Preorder for 20 BTC only! on: June 10, 2013, 12:15:19 AM
At $2000 this is cheep, This is the 50GHs so I guess was ordered recently.

Problem is, If money is in escrow, the address CANNOT be changed by BFL, So the BTC would have to stay in escrow until the product arrives to the original orderer and then on to the second party.

If you need the money quick, It will be difficult to obtain directly without massive backup.

Personally I would just struggle and keep the order, Maybe sell it when it's sitting in your hands.

It is the 60 GH and not the 50 GH. Yes indeed I need the money now but can repay it in full to the escrow in two weeks and keep it there until the product arrives and re-shipped.

My backup is 276 ASICMINER shares that I want to spend the 20 BTC on getting more off because I believe it is the better choice of mining. Yes the BFL will get me more hashrate per BTC instantly but IMO ASICMINER will grow into it and will spare me the maintaining headaches.

So if someone here disagrees with me. Please by all means, take the miner off me.

I will add the order info now. Sorry didn't post them earlier due to the recent exchange rate rollercoaster stress.

You could keep the ASICMINER shares in escrow i guess....
