1  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sports winnings taxes on: April 24, 2024, 07:50:21 PM
Move to a country where the tax regulations are fair and not abusive towards local citizens, acquire a citizenship there, cashout your funds legally by paying fair taxes to the government and be happy! With a 7 figures prize, it must be pretty affordable to do that, and still put the money into good use through smart investments which will return you passive income along the years, growing that balance even more. With a prize like that, money shouldn't be a problem for you anymore, since you know how to manage it properly and sustainably.

OP, was it a 7 figures prize in USD? That's impressive indeed, but be careful.

Before heeding suggestions like the one above, do what others said and ask professional advice to an expert. Depending on your jurisdiction, you may end facing jail time for tax evasion if you follow the wrong advice. This forum may be the best if you want to educate yourself about Bitcoin and other altcoins, but when it comes to legality, people give their opinion without knowing.
2  Local / Esquina Libre / Re: Campaña de Curiosidades del Foro... {Abierto} Temporada 2: 2024 on: April 24, 2024, 07:43:25 PM

Quote
Old post: We generally do not moderate posts this old for on-topicness, substantiveness, multi-posting, and other "cleanliness" issues.

3  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Lies told to cover up gambling habit on: April 24, 2024, 05:05:29 AM
I have a friend who lost a huge amount of money to gambling, and returning home that night, he lied to his wife that he was robbed, when the woman (being suspecious) asked why he was not beaten by the robbers, he got angry at her and almost beat her that night 🤣.

Have you told any gambling related lie before? Please share, let's read and have fun.
I have once lied because of gambling. I use the money I intend using to buy some food stuffs to gamble, unfortunately I lost all to virtual gambling I never knew what to tell my wife, so I just told her I lost the money and the worst part is that I don't even know how come about it. She was very anoid about that and I pretended as if what I was saying was the truth till she believed me. I then have  to call a friend to send me money because that was the only money I had in my savings back the around 2017

That was time ago, so I hope you learnt the lesson (although if you got the money back from your friend, perhaps you didn't get the morale).

I think that we must be mature enough to make our own decisions, but also to accept the responsibility of any consequences arising from our decisions.

I don't know your wife, the wife of Fivestar4everMVP's story, nor the one mentioned in the OP, but I feel that in all cases they pay for their husbands' faults, and that's not ethical nor fair.

Gazeta, let me know if you want me to add the Linux Tutorial to the list

Sure, why not? Smiley

I will add it when I arrive at home this afternoon (I'm writing from my smartphone, so I run the risk of messing it all up...).

paid2, I think I speak for everyone when I say that we wish you a speedy recovery.

Is paid2 sick...? I did not know... if so, please be well soon, dear paid2...

My fault, I misunderstood your last post about his health issues: I meant r_victory.

There is also a translation in Indonesian (translated by joniboini - 2019) and quoted by moderator (Indonesian board) in the pinned thread below

I believe the correct link should be this one, though...? -- https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5112922.msg50180385#msg50180385

Regarding the email link, I have also suggested that it be edited.

Thank you, Husna... Perhaps Porf can add this translation as "[IDN2]"...? It would have been better if we knew about this translation before dansus021 performed the IDN translation, but it is what it is now...

IDN2 added to the list Wink
5  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What are the biggest mistakes made by beginners in online gambling? How can they on: April 23, 2024, 02:12:06 PM
Beginners do think they can be different.

-snip-

I may not be right or totally right but that was how I felt when I was a newbie and as I grew and have more experience in gambling.

That's a very interesting thought and I think that you are right. I don't think that most newbies think that they will  lose money gambling, and I guess that most of them believe that they will be specially lucky, when odds are clearly against them.

It still happens to me when I play lottery or bet on sports, thinking that I can get lucky enough to guess an almost impossible result; although I put at stake very little money, so I also take the loss for granted somehow. It is a good balance, I think, between maintaining the hope of the beginning while accurately calculating the risks due to experience.

Gazeta, let me know if you want me to add the Linux Tutorial to the list: since the two first translations are almost finished, the list is going to be very empty in no time...

7  Local / Español (Spanish) / Re: Recomendación (UE) 2024/1101 -> Transición hacia criptografía postcuántica on: April 23, 2024, 01:38:14 PM

8  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Don’t play gambling with drugs or in half sleep on: April 22, 2024, 01:32:19 PM
Who does that? Drugs and gambling combination? Bad habit plus another bad habit? Damn that's expensive. I bet only rich people would do such things.
Yes, it's not a great combo because it takes out the clear mentality of a gambler and he will just keep on losing if he is under the influence of drugs while making a bet. There are different drugs out there and some of them gives confidence to the body which means it will make a gambler so brave that he might everything he got in one try which will probably end up to a wreck.

I don't think many rich people manage to keep these habits for a long time before becoming just "people". I think it's obvious that both combinations in the title are risky as hell, but I get the point of doing it.

Who knows, maybe very rare cases also occur, and somewhere in the world there is someone who woke up in the morning with a terrible hangover after a crazy Sunday night, to realize that he has millions in his bank account, having no idea how they got there Cheesy
9  Economy / Economics / Re: Young people are less likely to accept traditional employments in this era! on: April 22, 2024, 05:10:19 AM
I think that the OP is right and new generations prefer innovative jobs rather than traditional ones. But, even if learning modern skills like SEO, programming or online marketing sounds promising, the fact that so many people is interested in these jobs and that it is so easy nowadays to learn them for free online could suppose that these abilities won't be very competitive in the mid-term. On the contrary, many traditional jobs are becoming niches because young people don't like them, and niches are usually profitable.
10  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Don't be confused, bitcoin halving doesn't translate into bitcoin All time high on: April 22, 2024, 05:02:06 AM
Current fees are so high that the effect of halving has not yet appeared. In the last 200 blocks, the average subsidy + fees per block was about 4-6 bitcoins, while in the past it was 7-8 bitcoins.

I think we need to wait until mempool dump and fees decreases to start saying that Bitcoin halving has started and then we have to wait several months to see its actual effect.
Aside this fact this year halving is different from the previous halving since it a new ATH even before the halving and normally we do expect a bear before the bull but it was a different case because the bull this year is really too strong, since people sentiment is still positive.

Though I will advise leverage traders to avoid this since the market probably can go side ways and we heard news about how much was liquidated during the recent dip

Some "experts" say that, since the bull is really strong this year as you said, we should discount a part of the increase. Let's don't forget that big funds like BlackRock have been buying for several months many more Bitcoins that those which were mined, with the positive pressure in the price that it means, probably higher than halving's.
11  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Is there any easy way? Where to earn $3 dollars per day? or micro earnings? on: April 22, 2024, 04:54:51 AM
Are bounty campaigns in the alternate cryptocurrencies board still a thing? A few years ago almost anyone was allowed to join twitter or telegram campaigns and get micro earnings by doing almost nothing. Yes, these payments were in alts which sometimes never became liquid, but if you joined let's say 10 campaigns and 3-4 alts where successful you already got more than $3 USD in exchange, with little to no effort.

13  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can people still get the addictive nature through friendly games on: April 21, 2024, 11:13:42 AM
Good day friends

-snip-

So am just curious to know if these little games are the one's that got to him or already developed such habit and to know if possible that the practice will continue elsewhere after leaving there when he lost the money and to look for means through gambling to recover it.

Only you know him better, so you must discover it by yourself.

If you ask for my opinion, I think that the event you described in the OP has more to do with testosterone and competitiveness rather than with anything related to a gambling addiction, although it doesn't mean that those who display such behaviours aren't more prone to develop a gambling addiction. If said event created a lasting impact on him, if he can't be able to accept it and let it be, and if he looks for means through gambling to recover it, you don't have to be a genius to realise that that's not something good.

As an adult, he should not only accept the consequences of his actions, but also learn from his mistakes. If he wants to fix a mistake by making a new one, he still has to mature.

14  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: The Illusion of Trading Success on: April 21, 2024, 10:58:35 AM
Yes, the term scammers denotes more of a negative aspect, and these who prefer into teaching rather than trading, is actually done by their own choice. If they can’t be successful with real trading, then they should still take advantage with their acquired knowledge and strategies, and that will be possibly achieved through teaching beginner traders, not in the actual process, but most likely in the tips and methods that could enhance the best skills and strategies of a beginner in trading.

-snip-

If someone is not trading by himself and prefers to give knowledge about trading to others does not mean that they are scammers but someone gets knowledge but are financially unstable to utilize money for trading so such people are also hard working.

-snip-

Trading is not science, so there is no way to teach a sure way to be successful in trading, because there is no way to teach anything certain about something intrinsically uncertain. As simple as that. Everything is based on appearances.

The problem is that most influencers will imply that if you follow their teachings you will be successful, and that's plain bs, because chance plays an absolutely major role in trading and you would've done it equally well or badly in your trades without having wasted your money and/or time listening to their "teachings".

Are they scammers because of that? it depends on your own perception of the concept. According to laws and judges in most jurisdictions, they aren't.

15  Economy / Speculation / Re: If China Supports Crypto, Where Can Bitcoin's Price Go? on: April 21, 2024, 10:34:36 AM
I remember the times that Bitcoin died multiple times during its existence. Isn't it that they killed it there or something? Maybe they will do that once they see more exposure. I know there are a lot of Chinese miners right? Maybe they are making ways to utilize cryptocurrencies.

You are right, I remember 2017's "China Ban" and the many memes that flooded Twitter back then about the so many times Bitcoin had been killed before. Article in Forbes.

Ironically, it happened just before the bull run and new ATH, so those who panic sold their Bitcoins regretted it later. Anyway, as others said, the ban wasn't about hodling so afaik China never completely banned Bitcoin.

Answering to your question, if China fully supported Bitcoin I don't think that it would be something positive per se, because it would almost definitely mean that it wouldn't be pseudonymous anymore.
16  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is merit all about? on: April 21, 2024, 10:21:47 AM
Greeting everyone. I was newly introduced into the system by a friend who made me to have so much interest in the system with the zeal and the passion to learn and gain adequate experience on the system but one of the major problem I'm having now is that I'm not well clarify of what merit entails and as such I will be very grateful if any good minded person can kindly throw more light on that to enable me understand in details and also benefit from the system.
-snip-

When you already understand what is merit what I would recommend that don't make it your goal, -snip-

When you gain your experience you could answer most of the questions here as well helping other members, and that is where the merit could start dropping for sure, -snip-

Follow Asuspawer09's advice: nobody likes newbies who is evident that want to get merits fast in order to rank up as soon as possible, so if that's your goal it will take you much longer to get there. Enjoy your journey here instead, learn about Bitcoin (and other crypto if that's your interest, you can get a lot of info about many altcoins too here) and when you have a decent reputation you will start earning them with little effort.
17  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What will Happen to crypto market after Bitcoin halving?? on: April 20, 2024, 01:38:25 PM
According to history and recent Bitcoin halving the crypto market will witness a dump it might be massive dump before Bitcoin moves to its all time highs (ATH) having known this from my knowledge has a crypto trader I am expecting a dump at $70k to $72k soon which will cause massive confusion in the market for the newbies,

I’m literally confused to your statement even if I’m not a newbie. You are expecting a massive dump around 70K to 72K while the current is around 63k? Are you from future which the price above 100K or you are using the word dump in opposite meaning?

-snip-

From initial I said from my point of view and literally I can argue your point sir but am talking from my own point of view and perhaps it's not a financial advice just a view from my side let wait and see how the market plays.

After reading your message in the OP I have the same doubts as dimonstration. It has nothing to do with different points of view, but with understanding what you meant when you said you expect Bitcoin price dump to a price quite higher than the current price.

I think that you meant that price will increase from present levels but you foresee a massive dump when it reaches the 70K-72K range. Is that what you meant?

BTW, I was expecting a dump just after the halving, but I'm glad to see that the price is holding steady in the hours after.
18  Local / Español (Spanish) / Re: El bloque 840000 podría ser el más valioso de la historia por el halving on: April 20, 2024, 01:19:11 PM
Y el bloque 840000 ha sido minado. ¡Feliz halving!

-snip-

19  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: "Jontay Porter receives lifetime ban from NBA for violating gambling rules" on: April 19, 2024, 02:07:56 PM
Welcome to the Pete Rose club. I really don't understand why these players take the risks that they do. They are already paid well, but it's never enough. Hopefully this incident doesn't interfere with his brothers success.

I honestly wish that all sports would crack down on idiots. I would like to see players banned for other offenses. The leagues shouldn't condone stupidity.

cabron explained it well: Most likely he didn't think he was going to get caught. On the other hand, as far as I know, there is no IQ test to be passed in order to play in the NBA; maybe they should attach one to the multi-million dollar contracts Roll Eyes

BTW, in other jurisdictions that stupidity would mean jail time, no matter the amount of money earned.

1. I will be brief - to translate these two articles ? Smiley

I believe you can translate them both, yes, but wait first to be published in our "In Progress" section. Or, alternatively, you can translate them and, after they are added to "In Progress" section you can mention their translations Smiley It's up to you, DrBeer Smiley

Your prayers have been heard and, since nobody has shown any objection, the windows tutorial appears now listed among the translations in progress; so you can proceed with the task DrBeer Wink

Let's wait a little longer for the Linux tutorial which, of course, you are free to translate on your own in the meantime.
