1141  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Whatsminer M20 is announced and available for pre-order on: August 20, 2019, 04:15:41 PM
Well, my Xcel utility went nuts. My summer residential rates are 17.59c kWh now, I mean a 6c increase in 2 years? sheesh.

Home mining for me is deader than dead! Sad Data Hall is 9.5c-10c kWh. That boat doesn't float too well. And of course, as you state the 120 days wait on a Whatsminer M20 indeed. In case your pre-order is longer than 120 days. (That never happens right?)

Then with the Whatsminer M20 may be late on the pre-order. When you add the USA tariff to this at 27.6% it gets very ugly. If you take into account that maybe after December 15th, 2019 the tariff could go up another 10% if again, your pre-order is a bit late. Well ugly indeed.

Then lastly, of course, is the price, which for the value of Bitcoin and the pre-order 120 days is more than a bit too high for this Whatsminer M20, well that is quite a list above. I should re-phrase that WAY, WAY, too high, IMHO!

So assuming (guessing) philipma1957 can not justify any of this at (again I think his electric cost is this) 8c kWh or so? I'm so out of the running on this, I'm in the grandstands watching this ASIC blood sport and way, way out of this arena! So I am reduced to following Philpma1957's actions like an ASIC fanboy, just to at least have something to do.

I'm sure not getting anything this year, the way it looks like at the moment.

I think this is empirical proof that we have Lady HODLers here  Cheesy

You think the gals are the 38%?  I can't imagine we have THAT many... Wink

 Grin..

There is symmetry in the poll. They balance out perfectly!

Those who don't have Bitcoin in any real amount, think about SEX.

They also think about Bitcoin, but the odds at this point even for the geeks on here, with little Bitcoin, is
that you'd likely get Sex before any Bitcoin of a significant amount to matter.

So as long as you are daydreaming, may as well be the more likely aspect of Sex vs Bitcoin. As either is unlikely. Sad

Those with Bitcoin who have a 'significant' amount think more about Bitcoin then Sex because they are 'getting' plenty of Sex.

But they realize they are geeks, so think more about Bitcoin in order to continue to get Sex.

Geeks that they are they find it is fun, but realize they must think more about Bitcoin and how to get more, in order to keep this addiction to sex going.
Without Bitcoin, they are 'whiny' little dweebs on the Wall Observer Here, and that would be torture to go back to that life, now that Bitcoin has shown them Sex
with an actual 'gasp' person vs the Japanese Silicone Love Doll. Smiley They know the 'magic formula' for Sex is MORE HODL and MORE Bitcoin. Smiley

Thus the poll makes perfect sense. Because really, everyone here all they really think about is Bitcoin, with the result of getting enough to
always have Sex. It is just as geeks, Bitcoin HODL'ing from back in the day has made both daydreams possible! Those geeks without significant
Bitcoin has NO chance to discover the mystery of Sex. It is how the world is.

So those who need to get more and HODL to someday have sex, you need to get moving and get some! Before the price pumps to $100k or some such.

So those who are getting Sex with Bitcoin, PACE YOURSELF! You are likely overweight/middle-aged and out of shape!  Thus whoever is pumping you are likely trying to kill you off
quickly and get your Bitcoin, before Bitcoin price pumps!

So it is a race!

Play hard to get! Go to a Gym! Can't get sex if you are screwed to death you out of shape geek! It's a frigging honey badger trap!

So again, the poll is exactly as it should be!

Brad

(I'm so lonely) Sad

As a further example is the 'Fake Satoshi' that is going to reveal himself in 3 days.

https://en.ethereumworldnews.com/bitcoin-community-tears-apart-satoshi-blog/

Yeah right!

I blew it off on reading the following:

Upon submission of my thesis, my university felt that the contents were too advanced for marking and I resubmitted a paper instead about a simple web portal as a dissertation project!"

Just another 'megalomaniac' scammer.

"I'll bet by the 3rd post on the 3rd day by the end of his 'musings' this "Fake Satoshi" will announce his 'retirement' from this cruel world who doubts him and be 'forced' to keep

his anonymity again.

When doing a 'scam' always have an 'in' and always have the 'supposed' 'out' with your scam.

Next, the 'copy-cats' with another scam something like, we will have some supposed woman state,

within the pages of the National, Enquirer claiming 'tearfully': "I had Satoshi's love child and Elvis was at the wedding!"

"He left me for another and I'm now living in a Trailer Park, eating dog food!" "It's the truth!"

This kinda "I am Satoshi" garbage/scams are only going to get more nuts as time goes on.

Again, remember my 'out' above. He will have a way to fade back into being anonymous by the end of his 3rd rant and will blame the world. Bet on it"

sheesh

I'm sure I'll find more 'old man rants'.

Be sure to add your own, be specific to stuff people in positions of expertise or whatever 'should' know.

or just 'out and out' scams people should know are scams. The usual old man rants you hear! "In my day...etc)

I have met many clueless old people who know nothing about wiring or plumbing. They may not text, but they sit in front of the boob tube every day for hours.

I was simply using them from examples from my previous jobs. I'm sure many on here remember places that cater to such as plumbers and electricians, should know

their jobs. (Menards and Home Depot and Office Max).

As to the electrical work, it was done by an electrician incorrectly. They were all 1st-month rookie mistakes at best!

I probably was not clear on. the previous jobs part, that I had in mind and posted above.

But the 'store' stuff saying they are 'supposed' experts in the various areas, should at least have some 'minimal' construction skills. Or know their areas of expertise somewhat?

One Home Depot supposed 'expert' in the plumbing department (which I assured was called there by front staff) obviously had not even stacked the shelves in that area in that

on the 2nd occasion of my group gather at Home Depot in the previous post

(before he got the rest of the group together, also clueless, said there was no way to get innards on faucets, such as gaskets.

Anyway, I was trying to point out Specific Cluelessness within supposed 'experts' and thus this thread

Origin of Nickname and "Bitcoin" seems plausible.

Well, the OP is getting busy, assuming he votes on his own poll.

I was the 2nd vote, and from the votes so far then (total of 2),

I sure was not getting any. Smiley

Of course, being the OP on WO you are close to 'Godhood' in real life.

1147  Bitcoin / Project Development / Using Cointracker.io btc/crypto public addresses options limited. Any better? on: August 18, 2019, 03:21:01 PM
I'm using Cointracker.io BTC/Crypto free option on the sign up with email prompts of your
portfolio BTC/Crypto Public Blockchain Addresses options limited. Any better?

The reason is Cointracker only has a few public addresses, less than 1 dozen.
I have asked to add more of the common at least top 100 coins on say www.cointracker.com
for example, but little action.

I have come to the conclusion that Cointracker says you have CVS access to 2,500 coins, but it is
my view that is just a lead-in for their paid service and tax advice services from what I can tell from
their ads.

This seems a fairly easy thing to do, (I don't do www pages) but looks to me they could pop something
up if they wished to fairly quick in expanding their public address coin offerings of the above.

Anyway, with the few public address coins they allow, I find this a very handy site, but it would a LOT more handy,
if for example, it showed all the public BTC forks, various sh*tcoin values as this kinda automatic web page action.

I myself would like to see my sh*tcoins in addition to the above BTC forks list the top 100
from Coinmarketcap as the parameters. Specifically, ANY forks of any major coin like BTC/LTC and/or again top 100.

Mine in the Top 100 would be LISK, Siacoin, and any forks of note. That would pretty much cover it. LTC forks ETH forks
that kinda thing. (are their public address ETH forks? no idea myself).

Anyway, is there anything like this that is set up on a FREE service? I'd want or PAID by the by? I would want a www page option
not really interested in an iPhone App for example for such. Will use it if I have to.

Anyway, again, this I think would be a fairly easy site to set up for someone to generate ad revenue
from IMHO. Even if all it did was allow you to sign in and track your public BTC/Crypto addresses and get the
daily email on your portfolio worth.

If limited to public addresses only, the worst that would happen is a site would know your public
crypto addresses. Which is not a big deal to me. Back in 2013, my bank sent the SEC, because in
2013 all BTC was 'evil' don't ya know. Also claimed I was a tax cheat. I made them look like idiots
and SEC guy was like 'why am I here' (on the speaker/voice phone).

By the By, having BTC account troubles with your bank? Use a 'commercial bank' you'll have better odds.
So with that and being hunky-dory with the IRS and SEC. I'm already 'tag'd and bag'd' when the men
in black come for us all on Bitcointalk, etc.

Anyway, just curious. Cointracker, limited in what I can track, maybe the only game in town.
I am NOT gonna give a site access to me and CSV and whatever other accounting trickery they
may claim I need. Just a simple site to track a portfolio of say BTC and say top 100 cryptos with a
daily email option for your daily worth for giggles would be amusing.

Too bad Cointracker is not interested in providing such an option in full and wants you to go full
boat and pay. Hell, I might even pay, IF, they had the above. Alas, don't need tax advice using
CSV formats and the rest. Just need a bit better web service on my public and legal BTC and
Crypto Addresses than Cointracker seems to want to provide. Free or Paid or Otherwise.

Anyway, just a thought if anyone knows of anything better to use, paid or free and hell even
as an iPhone App, if I must. Or anyone who thinks this is a good idea and wants to build such
a quick and dirty site to track public BTC and Crypto Address with email notices option per day
on total value. If so, contact me on either on this thread or PM.

So much BTC and so many sh*tcoins..yawn.....need a 'minion' web page to track the forks of all and such by
putting in public BTC and or sh*tcoins public blockchain addresses, in one place to track.

Let them eat cake! Such a Yuppie re-reading the above I've become. But anyway post your views on this
on this thread, maybe there is some great shining www page on the hill that will serve up my views/needs
from above.

Brad

edit: here is the link, it is free to use! www.cointracker.io

Also if you have wallets that are NOT public, like say Siacoin, supported by the site, you can setup you HOLD/HOARD manually in wallets.

Anyway, I got the 'paid' version finally with a few more options, I don't have any interest in their paid tax calculator options, but this is a very

a handy site to have all your coins show up and forked coins etc for access and a daily email on changes..all under the free option!

October 18th, 2013, started up KNC Jupiter BTC Miner!

BTC sometime that day was $150 even when I looked.

I think I made 1 BTC a day!

Five years ago, I was pretty sure it would be at least 5 years until Bitcoin would go from around $650 to 10x that amount to $6,500.

I have been 'utterly wrong' on what is going to happen next in crypto and Bitcoin with almost 100% certainty, since that day in 2013.

What can I say it is a skill I have, panic sell when I should HODL or sell low and buy high

Litecoin Beating Bitcoin on Adoption of Scaling Solution SegWit

Two years after Bitcoin and Litecoin integrated the scaling-solution SegWit, LTC remains in the lead in terms of overall adoption.
Approximately 55% of Litecoin (LTC) transactions leverage the SegWit protocol upgrade as of August 9th, 2019, according to recent data from block explorer site Blockchair.

In comparison, only 36% of Bitcoin (BTC) transactions use the backward-compatible SegWit update.

1152  Other / Serious discussion / Old Man Pondering & The End of Civilization. (Indeed!) Poll! on: August 17, 2019, 11:44:21 PM
Things that have come to light in the last week that have tripped my Old Man Pondering Angst.

(I) This of course. (If it is Satoshi, I always knew BTC started with a bang, I'd guess it could end with a bang as well!)

https://news.bitcoin.com/bitcoiners-brace-for-more-performance-art-and-another-satoshi-reveal/

(II) Retirement: Or how I could get any of the previous jobs I've had back in life within a heartbeat! (Thank god I don't need too!)

(a) Pointed out inside 14-3 (15 amp) wire for use in an outside ductless A/C for house needs to be in the duct and outside graded.

Should have been 12-3 (20 amp) (underground graded) to be safe. Not just zip-tied.

(b) Went to Menard's and Home Depot and had to show 3 staff in each place what a small brass cover in plumbing looks like for an unused Refrigerator Ice Maker line/to brass plug!)

(c) Went to Menard's and Home Depot today, to find a pair of faucets for bathroom sink. Unable to find online and both groups said that the ones I had you could not replace

the leaky valve inside. (This time only a couple people in both places). Came home and found the faucets I want from their sites and compared prices and found you

can take apart my old bathroom sink faucet and replace innards. This was me looking at it. The web said zip also. Took 25 minutes. Will replace anyway, but really?

(d) Earlier in the week, was at Office Depot and helped a guy, who was having trouble with Windows 10 saying it was updated, but really was not updating.

Showed him the workaround page for windows 10.

     https://www.wintips.org/fix-windows-10-update-1803-fails-to-install/

At least Office Depot had the decency of having a sign up for a job for a tech support person, at (gasp!) the amazing price

of $11.55/hr or some such! (The Midwest USA pays zip!)

So what are your stories of wandering about in this world of cluelessness?

Are you feeling old and overqualified for your current job?

Do people spend all their time on their phones texting at work/or places you shop?

Or are you like me in retirement and simply wander around tripping over stuff like this?

Post them on here and take a poll!

Dismayed I am

Sorry to interrupt, but can someone please let me know if I should be panicking at this point, because, TBH, I'm seriously, SERIOUSLY thinking of just tuning out anything Bitcoin related until after the halvening and just focus on IRL stuff for a while.

Think I'm finally finding a good IRL routine that is keeping me somewhat entertained and productive. Starting to really get the hang of this retirement thing.

Watching Bitcoin tank like it is, just makes me sad. I don't need it until 2021-ish anyway...

Bah. Someone hold me. No homo.

Tune the fuck out.  You don't seem to be able to handle it anyhow.  These are normal BTC price movements, including 20%, 30% and sometimes even 50% corrections during a bull market, and you keep wanting to panic from these kinds of normal BTC price movements.

Yeah, Bob chill out man. You’ve been through a couple of bitcoin cycles now so you know what to expect. I’m the same, I panic sometimes but look at the bigger picture. You’re already independently wealthy, I can promise you that you’ll be a lot richer at the end of 2021. Everything before then is just noise. The halvening will do what it always does - Limit the supply & with increased demand comes higher prices.

Moon by the end of 2021!

Smile!

My mental 'safety net' price on Bitcoin is $11,111.12 (do the math, you can figure it out) Smiley

All it has to do is stay above that price, and I'm golden.

Sorry, all this crypto is MY beanie baby/fantasy coin, thus the above shall be at that price. I have so sworn!

1157  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: My Situation: Mining LTC now and After Halving. Looking like meh! Take Poll! on: August 16, 2019, 08:05:40 PM
I have seen some info on L5+ it does 1 watt a mg. The best from inno is the a6+ it does around 1 watt a th so 11gh would be 11 kwatts. Or 11 x 24=264 kwatts that is 9 bucks for 3.5 cent power and you cheat only 6 usd a day. This would be if you had 5x a6+ at a cost of 3000 each so you would have paid 15000 for the miners to clear 6 usd a day.  Yet the pricing in the A6+ stays at 3000 each. At six usd profit it will take 2500 days to pay the A6+ off.

Brings to mind another angle I forgot about from Maxumark on here in Bitcointalk.

I will preface with this. The 'rumor' is and seems to be borne out that the Litecoin L5+ was never released in the USA to consumers in general.

The 'assumption' was it was only used for Bitmain and its 'cloud mining'.

So that begs a further question, is the pump in all ASIC miners crypto prices and the pushing of pre-orders from 2-4 months and other silliness

due to the result of countries like Venezuela and North Korea and/or other states, BUYING, hash power to move into USD $$$ with sanctions, etc?

Or a more likely version of above. Venezuela using LOCAL currency to pay for 'cheap' (I think it is 1c kWh?) electric and thus mining like hell to get

around sanctions, due to the crummy fiat they have? You can expand on this and saying anyone in a high inflation country with low electric is balls

to the wall buying equipment and/or simply buying as much cloud hashing as possible from cloud miners like Bitmain, to move as much currency as they can?

But yeah, above, that is the rub.

How the hell, in a dump situation price-wise is everything ASIC equipment-wise in full boat FOMO, like we are in a pump?

It is befuddling.

I doubt above is true on cloud mining.

But in the spirit of being confused on every area of Crypto, I thought this should be mentioned.

Perhaps that is where the equipment is going? A run on cloud mining?

1158  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-08-08] Blockstream Reveals Massive Bitcoin Mining Facilities on: August 16, 2019, 06:00:27 PM
Blockstream is actually helping Bitcoin, they are developing interesting technologies that are solving problems with the Bitcoin blockchain and will help its customer's range of use. They are also giving a salaries to most of the Bitcoin developers.
Microsoft and Apple are financing Linux, who is complaining?

But how open source, is open source if you are say mining 10% of the network of BTC like I believe Blockstream 'aspires' to do?

So the question becomes with code/source/programing etc, what determines the direction of updates?

Miners? (Which you are now a big player) or Open Source Adoption?

Would be sooooo tempting to 'tweak' the code in some manner, in that I did not have to replace my 'aging' miners someday, don't ya think?

Bitcoin: Power Corrupts! Maybe? (tm: Blockstream)

1159  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: My Situation: Mining LTC now and After Halving. Looking like meh! Take Poll! on: August 16, 2019, 05:55:48 PM
Yes not easy to find under 8c kWh in europe either. Scandinavia we running 6.5c/kWh (euro and summertime) and no VAT need to pay from orders that comes outside EU when you make order as company but if you dont have company then you need to pay VAT of course.. Anyway hard times indeed for many of us miners... North Russia have some cheap places, but Russia is always big questionmark.

Well, IMHO, the ASIC manufacturers for some reason decided to (even before when crypto was flat and not going down 10% like this week) think it was OK to

do the following:

1) Up, the price by 25% or more on any ASIC'S of any flavor crypto. All the major guys did this, more or less at the same time.

2) Make their previously 2-month pre-orders stretch into 4 months or more. Most common now is Dec 2019 but a lot state it as an ETA and put down Jan 2020.

So, the 'market' has to be coming from someplace. Even if it is in full FOMO mode, the manufacturer's would not be doing this, at this time of crypto prices,

especially, unless they had a big market for their products and pre-orders.

I just don't get it. Usually, this kind of action is based on a pump in crypto prices in a big way, in that this does not seem the case, I can only guess that it

is due to high electric costs in the USA and elsewhere (Summer rates). 10c kWh doesn't cut it anymore at these electric prices and crypto prices.

So I can only assume the FOMO is coming from countries with really cheap electric and no tariff issues piling on at this point in time and the ASIC manufacturer's

are trying to catch up and can't. Thus the price rise on equipment and the pushing out of pre-order delivery.

Anyway, any better data feel free to drop a line on this thread, especially if you are from a country that does have cheap electric and/or no VAT or TARIFF or

whatever. Also, to see if my view is correct from someplace in East Asia as an example with hosting! (heh...every scammer now is gonna plug me on Bitcointalk)

I suppose if the BTC price and Altcoin prices now go up by 50% or some such, I will have my answer (the usual a lot of people are smarter than me and foresaw this)

seems like a hell of a risky action from the manufacturer's end, UNLESS, they have a hell of a lot of demand yet. IMHO.

Chump or Champ we will be the first to know!

Brad

Many people have said it will all end up being commercial Mining large scale.

So 3 to 5 cent miner with the l3+

Does what.  We have 11 gh at Clifton it makes .19 to .20 ltc a day

At 75 bucks an ltc that is 15 dollars.

We use 17000 watts or 17 x 24 = 408 kwatts a day to earn 15 dollars.

At 3 cent power that is 12.24
At 4 cent power that is 16.32 or loser
At 5 cent power that is 20.40 of loser

So we should see a big tank in diff coming right up on ltc.

What about the other elephant in the room, concerning BTC/LTC and/or crypto Bitmain miners of any flavor? There massive presence?

The fact that, again, guess, IMHO, Bitmain L3+'s account for about say (guess) 65% of all scrypt-pow miners?

The other 'shoe to drop' is that Bitmain sha-256 products still running at say an S9 or below account for about 40% say of sha-256.

If any of the above is even close. The difficulty will get to a point someday with either, that you will see large amounts of the network

drop off at the same time vs difficulty/price and electric costs. There are consequences for this concentration of Bitmain units in the future.

Then difficulty drops, they all turn on again, it difficulty goes back up because these units all jump on again,

they all shut off again and yo/yo for a couple of months, till the all fade away. My fear at a continuing cost to the price of crypto in the dumps.

With the lack of viable (again IMHO) cost-effective new equipment worth getting vs difficulty vs electric costs etc and the current prices of all crypto be it BTC/LTC/or any flavor.

We could have a perfect storm where, due to the price of crypto and above large swaths of crypto Bitmain equipment mostly, would all dump, at the

same time with the effects I state above. Which brings us right back to, whatever crypto you HODL, mine, or whatever, adoption of coin as relates to price.

Worst of all possible worlds, because if big data hall in the USA you dump your crypto of choice to pay for the building payments and other stuff,

even if you have shut say your Bitmain L3+'s off. You sell your hoard of whatever you are mining along with a mass of others to get things

paid-up and or wrap'd up with this 'mining' hit you've taken.

Which would further cause the price to dump, even if difficulty went down?

It is not like everyone (again, IMHO) is gonna rush out and get any scrypt-pow newer (by a bit)  miners at this time to compensate. Not with the (again, IMHO)

unfathomable 30-40% price rise (I don't understand, the equipment makers act like we are in a crypto pump) nor the now 3-4 month pre-order game again!

Again, IF, my assumptions are right and Bitmain Data Hall and other Miners (as of now scrypt-pow)

are scrambling to fix/pay/clean up their affairs by all these Bitmain L3+'s dumping out of the network of any scrypt-pow coin.

You can make the same point eventually with a large amount of Bitmain Sha-256 units, eventually, having the same

effect and splash when their time comes. So depending on how far they are in the hole on all this majority of Bitmain equipment of any flavor,

a lot of otherwise reasonable miner types could dump, because they have to at prices they really, don't want to, because they can't HODL, due

to there over-bought from one Mfg: Bitmain units. All at the worse time, price wise, acting as a perfect storm and driving the price further down, down, down.

Yech, scared self!

So yeah, we need a safe-haven, recovery, via adoption, in some manner on LTC in particular (most vulnerable L3+'s IMHO) or things could accelerate downward

much, much more rapidly, then folks expect big time in the short-term till the end of the year. Again, IMHO.

Specifically, the large amount of shutting off scrypt-pow wise of Bitmain L3's and L3+'s. Pray to the ASIC gods for 'adoption' big time I guess!

yech!

Anyway, again, I type as fast as I think, therefore, probably not as articulate as I could be. But folks get the point of what could accelerate things worse, unless

we get some price relief. Again, IMHO, above say $115 USD for LTC in particular.

Again, so my guesses go on this clusterf**k as I watch in dismay from the sidelines.

Then again, perhaps this above is all being taken care off by massive ASIC equipment sales of new equipment in non-Tariff and non-VAT countries in East Asia, say,

with cheap 4-5c kWh electric too boot. Perhaps all the manufacturers of any particular ASIC equipment of any flavor are getting slammed for orders. Thus the 40%

price rise on such FOMO and/or further being slam'd and thus moving pre-orders on top of this from 2 months to 4 months.  A guy can hope this is the case, but

I'm not counting on it. That is how this is 'supposed' to work when ASIC equipment falls off the network, at least in the past, but unsure about this time.

end of rant

what about this guys www.bit49.io - asic hosting in Russia $.055/KWH

It would be cool to go open up shop overseas, somewhere where it's still in infancy in regulation and cheap power light taxes ideal shipping rates/times.

Everyone I've ever known who hosted in Russia got burned when the places went under. Either legitimate demise of business or ran off with the funds.

(4 folk I know of on Bitcointalk and old Litcointalk sites and 3 different hosting places...1 was a legit..just went under...the others? Who knows?)

So just saying from say around 2015-16. The odds are not good IMHO.

Not sure I'd take a chance now.

There was also a huge one besides the above, I forget the name that went under in a big way? Folk lost it all. (Someone here must know which I mean?)

Even if all was good with some Russian hosting sites now in 2019, not exactly sure you'd find out who/how/what for venting such as 'legit'.

Actually, I'd have the same issue with any site in East Asia as well, just the way the world is not I guess.
