1  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why the bitcoin price is going down on: July 11, 2017, 05:10:14 PM
[BTC/USD 12h chart]

I agree, it is just a temporary correction;
On next raise it will go beyond $3,000.00
2  Economy / Exchanges / [UPDATE] $10 withdrawal fee? on: July 11, 2017, 02:36:22 PM
So, this is the deal with them:

Citing from e-mail support:
Quote
...we use multi-signature wallets to keep your bitcoin secure. The trade off is that network fees are larger than what you may be used to paying for other transactions, but I hope you can appreciate that we put security first.

In essence, minimum transaction fee can be set to 0.0016 BTC (currently $3.79), so be aware of that when you plan to use their service.
Beside this, I had only good experiences with them, so you can say it was my mistake.

And to mention, every support ticket was answered under a minute!

You have great service guys, and I really appreciate your enthusiasm to bring this service to our community, but this fee will kill you in long run.
3  Economy / Exchanges / [UPDATE] $10 withdrawal fee? on: July 11, 2017, 02:14:15 PM
They answered very quickly, 5+ for support.

But, they answered that fee can be set manually;
Tried that, but can not set it bellow 0.002 BTC.

It is probably a unintentional error on their site,
waiting for new reply.
4  Economy / Exchanges / $10 withdrawal fee? on: July 11, 2017, 01:57:13 PM
I was trading some time on bitmex.com,
I like the service, had no problems.

Today, I made withdrawal and was charged with 0.004 BTC withdrawal fee;
With BItcoin at $2364.9, that is almost $10.

I placed a support ticket with them, waiting for answer,
just want to see anybody had similar experiences?
5  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Yobit scammed his clients - no withdrawal - no support - no nothing on: May 27, 2017, 01:02:47 PM
Can not withdraw DCR, wallet on maintenance.
Support not responding.
What is going on Yobit?
6  Economy / Economics / Re: Worst bitcoin decision you've ever made? on: May 17, 2017, 10:22:20 AM
Bought only 1BTC in July 2013. Price was about $100.
7  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How is trading *not* gambling? on: May 17, 2017, 10:01:07 AM
I think you are asking if they are technically the same,
in regard that you are betting on certain outcome,
and the answer to this question is YES.

But here's the difference, explained in simplest way possible:

-When you go to casino, you are gambling, because the house
have mathematical edge over you, and in the long run it is impossible
for you to win - that is why they are doing everything in their power
to keep you playing as longest they can.

-On the other hand, the house, you may say is taking bet (or trade) against you,
and because they have mathematical edge in every game they are not gambling - they are trading.

On market, people who make money are trading, others gamble,
and former ones are calling them pigs, because they come to get (financially) slaughtered.
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ★[ANN] [NAV] NAV COIN - NAVTECH NOW DECENTRALIZED! on: May 12, 2017, 04:00:33 PM
Just bought some NAV,
hope it will increase in coming months.
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Breaking: Ripple to decentralize XRP more then Bitcoin & also do it much Better on: May 12, 2017, 10:12:23 AM
I've read the article;
although idea sounds good,
I see it more as desperate act to save dead currency.

Main problem with ripple is that people lost trust in it,
and once that happens, game is usually over.

Better idea, I think, for them would be to start
rebuilding their image in community, and find the
way to be more transparent.
10  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What should i learn to trade Binary Options? on: May 12, 2017, 09:40:38 AM
Trading is about probabilities, and finding the edge.

As I understand binary option brokers have 10.0% edge.

That said, compare that with the hose edge of some casino games:
- American Roulette 5.26%
- European Roulette 2.70%
- Craps 1.41%
- Baccarat 1.06%
- Blackjack 0.28%

So, you have significantly better chances to make money gambling.

Best advice is:
Start your own binary options business!

12  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin as a source of income? on: May 11, 2017, 01:41:27 PM
For me, Bitcoin is source of additional income, and it has been the great one.
Mostly, I use it for trading and to store my savings.
Its volatility is what makes him profitable, but also very, very risky – that is why I say "source of additional income".
13  Other / Off-topic / Re: [SOLUTION] How to calculate and store Bitcoin balances with PHP and MySql? on: May 11, 2017, 01:29:29 PM
Bitsky, I absolutely agree with you,
for simple and practical purposes DECIMAL and BIGINT are more than enough for data storage and SQL operations.

However,
PHP language has some serious limitations when performing mathematical operations with big numbers, and that is why I built this class.
There are two PHP libraries for this purpose (BC Math and GMP), but I wanted simple lightweight class, nothing complicated.

Second thing I wanted, is to have the ability to store numbers of any length (in practical sense), without the need to modify
data type of particular row, that is why I choose CHAR and VARCHAR over DECIMAL and BIGINT.

Quote
Care to give examples for these "serious problems"? Why don't you file a bug to get those problems fixed?

The problem that I had is related to inability of PHP language to deal with large floating-point numbers; after some number of decimals it just rounds them
(PHP manual better describes the problem that I could do in this reply http://php.net/manual/en/language.types.float.php).

So, I apologize if I sounded misleading in my original post, my intention was to provide the solution for some unusual circumstances.
14  Other / Off-topic / [SOLUTION] How to calculate and store Bitcoin balances with PHP and MySql? on: May 09, 2017, 12:00:47 PM
About

This article will describe very easy and safe way to make simple Bitcoin balance calculations
and best approach to store them safely inside MySql (SQL) database, using PHP scripting language.

The Problem

Whenever you are building any Bitcoin web application, you will probably have to store some Bitcoin balances,
and make simple calculations to update them;
and, if you already tried to do this, you will know that using traditional Integers, Big-Integrers, and Floats can cause serious problems.

That is why most developers use Strings and Character arrays.
To implement this they usually choose one of two PHP libraries BC Math or GMP.
Although these libraries are great for doing complex operations, they are too heavy for doing simple tasks,
like calculating user balances, which use simple arithmetic.

Solution

To solve this, I wrote simple PHP Calculator class (https://github.com/BisonSoft/BigNumber_PHP)
which take two integers represented as strings (without decimal point), and do addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and modulo operation.

In practice

1. To store Bitcoin balances, use strings and store them as Satoshis

5432 BTC store as "154320000"
0.0599 BTC store as "5990000"

2. In MySql define balance column as CHAR rather than VARCHAR, or TEXT, it will improve performance

CHAR(24) is large enough for any practical purposes
Set column DEFAULT option to '0'

3. PHP Calculator class

It accepts strings containing digits only: "12345", "0012345" etc.
Invalid strings will return Error: "-12345", "1.2345" etc.
Dividing with zero will return Error also: "1234" / "0" = "E"
Class takes two stings and returns solution number as string: "1234" + "66" = "1300"
When dividing two numbers, class returns number with decimal point: "87" / "12" = "7.25"

4. Security

Beside balance column it is wise to set a hash column and to verify balance each time record is accessed.
In this way any corruption to database can be verified.
Sha1 algorithm is sufficient for this

Example:
Balance: "112345500"
Sha1: 1bcd3635438e41be2b0329938f0a55c35f7b6be5
15  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [Research] Betting on Live Lottery Draws? on: May 07, 2017, 07:18:35 PM
Thanks for your replies Ukuhudu and Sundark.

I started this discussion to see if there is any interest in Bitcoin community in this kind of betting.
It is just an idea, and I was just testing waters.

Unfortunately, I must agree with Ukuhudu - people who bet with Bitcoin are looking for something much faster - this is kind a slow.
Even this discussion here shows how little interest there is for this kind of betting

Anyway, guys, thanks for taking time to post some replies, I really appreciate it
16  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Just hypotetical and curious on: May 05, 2017, 01:58:35 PM
Fight against torrent sites shows the futility of any attempt to shut down something which is P2P based.

But I believe they will try to regulate it, censor it, and even hard-tax it. But, all that will have no real effect on Bitcoin.

Best way to prevent something is to make it less profitable than something else:
- It is more easy and more profitable to Mine-Bitcoins
- It is less profitable to find someone’s address private key

So, people use equipment to mine coins, and not to steal it.
17  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do you keep your bitcoins? on: April 29, 2017, 11:55:07 AM
Paper wallet definitely!

But this is how I do it:
- First, I encrypt my private key (I am using AES256 at the moment – but I am working on my private cypher that will be using 512bit key)
- I generate random password for encryption, which I store in safe place (other than paper wallet obviously)
- I convert this to QR and print on sheet of paper along with BTC address
- I never put more than 10 BTC in single address
- To generate BTC address, I use random.org for generating random bit-sequence, and convert it off-line to address using this tool https://github.com/casascius/Bitcoin-Address-Utility
18  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTC is Gold 2.0 – What humanity has been waiting for centuries on: April 29, 2017, 11:33:01 AM
It is also a money 2.0,
But I would rather call it storage of value (and that is what bitcoin really is).
It is an amazing invention, and it will hold the value better than any stock, bond, gold, or money.
But I believe it is still in its infancy, and we are still not fully aware of its potential.
In its current state it’s still volatile and unpredictable, but once price settles down in more calm range it will become mainstream asset.
19  Bitcoin / Project Development / [Research] Betting on Live Lottery Draws? on: April 29, 2017, 10:50:00 AM
Hi everybody,

I noticed there are many bitcoin lotteries, but I could not find any betting on actual real lottery draws.
I was thinking, of starting that kind of service, so I would like to see some opinions and suggestions.

The most interesting point is that regular bookmakers offer some interesting quotes on this kind of bets; like:
- picking 2 numbers 80:1
- picking 3numbers 1720:1
- picking 4 numbers 5000:1

I would appreciate any opinion and suggestion.
Thanks.
