Hello.

First off I'm brand new here, I've just recently found out about BitCoins and mining.
The problem is, I see a lot of posts where people get over 100 Mhash/s, while mine runs at 9.4 Mhash/s?

Can anyone please clarify the following for me:

  • What does Mhash abbreviate? Megahash or megabyte hash or something different?
  • Why is my Mhash rate so low compared to others?

I've searched around but I can't seem to find the answers.
I'm mining on GPU (openCL or something?)

My specs:
GeForce 9600 GSO 512
Intel E5300 (2.60GHz)
4GB DDRD2

I've tried exiting everything but it still stays below 10 Mhash/s

I'm sorry if I my questions are stupid or answered in a FAQ thread somewhere

Thanks in advance

It's about what you should expect from that GPU. Here's a reference: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison#Nvidia

The same GPU listed there is doing a little better, so maybe there's a setting that could get a couple more Mhashes out of it. But not more. If you look at the comparison, you'll see that Radeons generally outperform Geforce cards that are equivalent in price and gaming performance 3-4 times, which is due to Radeons having a configuration that is much better suited for this kind of work.

Bitcoins: solid enough to build pyramids.
