Be aware, there are many SCAMS on Skype and other chats or social media right now.
Spammers can type different names in search box, and try to send as many friend requests as possible.
When someone accept those friend request, they can invite you in some on line scams, beg for help for their family or worst.
Be careful.

i think most of the random people on skype who add you are up to something shady. either prostitutes or trying to tell you to send them money so they can help you retrieve millions of dollars locked up in a account in the Swiss.

OP safe to say if you weren't expecting to have this user add you or you didnt communicate with others then you should just ignore the request and don't talk to the person. better to be safe-

I don't think it's to do with Skype relaying any info. Anyone can search the Skype directory directly from the software, just type in any name you can think of and it'll bring up tons of Skype ids. I guess some people just send friend requests to random people. As long as you don't give out any personal info, I don't see any harm in chatting with that girl (especially if she is pretty Grin )

Happens to me too, don't worry about it too much, pretty sure there's a public directory for usernames.  I just block people I don't recognize.

Yes. These are harmless.
Impersonators are more dangerous.

never use this for communication,  ever,  don't install the 'app' either ,

you can take my word for it or look up the vulnerabilities in skype, or other 'features' of it in google
