MovieTickets.com Brings Bitcoin to Over 900 US Movie Theaters

MovieTickets.com, one of the largest movie ticket purchasing platforms in the US, now enables movie-goers to buy movie tickets with bitcoin at 985 theaters.

The move was made possible through an integration with bitcoin payment processor GoCoin. As a result, theater chains that use the credit card processing services offered by MovieTickets.com will be able to accept bitcoin for any film offered.

GoCoin CEO Steve Beauregard indicated that this includes Regal Cinemas, the nation's largest theater chain with more than 500 locations. Holdouts notably include AMC Theaters, which itself boasts more than 300 locations in North America.

The partnership is the latest betwen GoCoin and a movie industry firm, following the May announcement that it was in talks with production studio Lionsgate Films.

This is a huge announcement.  Everyone goes to the movies, let us hope that we have a nice and visible bitcoin logo somewhere on their website, but it would be even better to have a logo in the theaters.  This is perfect, good visibility for bitcoins AND in a positive way.  After all the negative stories lately it is good to have a positive announcement.

Finally we're seeing good news from time to time. This is exactly what we need. Bitcoin is slowly being adopted into just about anything. The list of things that you can't do with Bitcoin is getting shorter and shorter.

There is a problem with this. I've had a few encounters with shops that accept/sell Bitcoin (e.g. Bitcoinbon) and the logo was either put in a place where it is hard to spot or wasn't placed at all.
They really need to work on this.

A good application for this, would be to install a Bitcoin vending machine at the cinema. You go there, choose a movie and where you want to sit, and you scan the QR code and pay with your phone.

Other people would soon start asking questions... Why are we standing in a queue for tickets, if someone is doing this in a few minutes with Bitcoin?

This is great news, increasing the number of vendors that take and accept Bitcoin transactions is always beneficial to adoption.
It also makes a great excuse to watch Jurassic Park and pay with Bitcoins

at some point we will be able to pay for nearly everything with bitcoin. just a matter of time. would be nice to use bitcoin to buy drinks and snacks in the theater.

Accepting Bitcoin for movie tickets will be huge plus for bitcoin.This will increase it use and will make it economically strong.

How will they incentivize people to pay with Bitcoin and not fiat or credit cards?
I would offer a 5% discount on all tickets bought with Bitcoin or a FREE soda, if you show that you paid with Bitcoin.
In future when this goes mainstream, movie theaters will have to employ less staff, because most tickets would be bought online. This is a saving for them and it might even reduce the ticket price for the consumer.
Bitcoin can make things so much easier, if they do this the right way.

It's a good news to US people, I hope it can be adopted in my country. The main point is, everyone like watching movie, and its the best way to introduce bitcoin through something that everyone like. It will be greater if there is any movie that involve bitcoin in the scenes.

Nice to see these kind of innitiatives, hope this will come across the ocean, just like takeaway.com. There are several services in my country where you can send a paymentlink to and the amount in bitcoin and they will pay the bill for you, but that is tedious and putting in a middle man that is taking away the advantages of bitcoin. I will ask my local theater on their vision towards bitcoins

Yeah we can hope so, this kind of news can only be positive. Companies/organisations seem to follow the trend so if this is a success another movie theatre company/chain may follow suit & then another etc.
Mainstream adoption is going to take years & years but I have time to wait
