i was supprised just how much copper cable costs... In my country, a cable of 10cm² costs about 25 euro's/meter (at least, that's what i payed for it a couple of years ago).

Manual labour is 30-35 euro's/hour...

a good switchboard, with all jumpers installed will cost another couple hundred...

These are prices i payed a couple years ago, using a registered electrician. Maybe in your country, or using an unofficial guy, prices might be (a lot) lower

For what I know, if the guy is good, he's not really overcharging... Wiring is extremely expensive these days, almost anywhere.

Hi I am looking to have 38 total miners (already in my possession) and a total of 24Kw of power to my shed to run this. My brother will have the same number of miners but in his shed 100ft from my shed
Here is the work the Electrian I s doing:
Upgrading the power at my house from 100amp service to 200 amp service
Running wire 150ft to my shed (trenched)
Installing a new panel
Providing me with 45 separate outlets to plug the miners into
Running the wire an additional 100ft (trenched) to my brothers shed
Installing a new panel there
Providing him with 45 outlets

Total for all this work is $4500

Seems reasonable to me considering the price of copper and the fact he's trenching etc... Thoughts? Too much? Good price? Thanks.

That's a great deal. TAKE IT and run!

Not to nitpick here...

Upgrading your service from 100A to 200A will get you only 22kW of total new power, or 17.6kW usable.  Just want to make sure you understand that you're not going to have 24kW available for use out in those sheds, unless of course you don't mind tapping into the original 100A you had in your home already.  You'll need just about 136A out to those sheds to get 24kW of usable power.... this is all assuming you've got 220V service.

It would likely be far cheaper to host your gear. What's your kW/h rate?

This is cheap.  Is he a licensed electrician?  Did he pull a permit?  Work done without a permit could null your homeowner insurance.

Thanks for this! I called him and I misunderstood he is not upgrading my service but rather installing an additional 200 amp service.

you live were !! ? . i had a sub panel installed for 10 miners on my 200 amp service for nothing i just had to  get the parts cost me may be 250 $ total in parts. i had  the Sub panel  plus two 240 one @ 30 amp and one @ 40 amp and it is up to code in my state .

As some one else said make sure it's OK with the state you live in and above all your homeowner insurance. mine was done by a licensed electrician, I know and his friend, no permit but according to what i found out i don't need it for the insurance or by state law but I  do plan to have the main box replaced soon it is old then i do ,That's why for now the Sub panel but the electrician told me its safe but i should get it replaced one day because it is all most 20 years old.

It is not a good or bad price just regular.

You may want to have him price upgrading your 100A to 400A (320A) that way you only have one meter might be cheaper.

Good luck,

Gotcha... an extra 200A will provide you plenty of power.  Now, of course, the question becomes, "how much are you paying for your electricity?".  Hopefully you're getting a good rate, or you're going to charge your brother a boatload for hosting his miners Tongue

I'm a good bro so I'm not charging him anything but he obviously has to pay for his share of the electricity at 10 cents... He has the same amount of miners so we are looking at around 80-90Th and we are planning on solo mining for at least a month and trying our luck. Electrian is coming tomorrow so I'm off to get the shed ready. Lots of work ahead!

$4500 seems just fine.  It's a lot of freaking work.. a lot.

If he is providing the panel very logical if not... I dunno.....  Still not too bad it's a lot of work.

You can always call another electrician.  If you ask quite a few will give free quotes in hopes of getting the job.

I have only been sent one ridiculous one myself.  I wanted to put a 220/240 circuit in a breaker that had the extra power and spot for it.   Was only around 10 foot of wire to the PDU spot.  For 10 foot of wire(ran just in against the wall not in it), receptacle, and one single breaker he said he would send me a quote.

The quote came back at a little over 1k for 3 items.   That is overcharging Smiley

Ended up all being for the best and I changed the plans a lot.  Spent a lot of my own time to set up a new area for mining specifically for summer mining.  And once it goes back to winter it can easily expand in this area.   I'm not using it but I have around 200 amp's for mining. (It's set up as two main's one 200 amp (house uses part of this one) and a separate 100 amp main).
