whats the scariest almost mistake youve make transacting in btc

not including almost placing orders in bfl, blackarrow etc, but making a transaction.

for me sweeping old paper wallets to claim bcash. i had done several already through mycelium on android but the biggest one i decided to send direct to my trezor, and not sweep to mycelium 1st as i had on the others. i send a small amount, check, then send the rest.

well this time i decided to sweep directly to the trezor and not use mycelium as an intermediary storage point, then send from there. it was a large amount. so i send 0.01 btc to the trezor. and i forgot about change addresses (DOH). thought i had sent the change to the great black hole.. so i was sweating bullets till i saw the change had been sent back to the original paper wallet address.

it was pretty nerve wracking to say the least as that paper wallet had about 20% of my btc.

btw i keep all swept paper wallets so i can sign them to prove ownership if needed (for good old tax man). plus there may still be forked coins in there, wallets were from 2014.

soo, any other near btc death experiences?

I always check the btc address twice ,before i send btc ,or before i have to post my address somewhere ,in order to receive btc payments.I`m using bitcoin for about 3 years and i haven`t made any "rookie" mistakes,like sending btc to the wrong address or "investing" in some shaddy HYIP.
Perhaps i will make some big mistake in the future.

I don’t think that I have made any big mistake using Bitcoin. I don’t think that I should sell my BTC coins because of its low price now. It will rise and we’ll see our big profits again. Believe me,  I am sure.

The bitcoin address is the first to check before making a transaction at anytime. There are some malware that can edit your clipboard, thus it can changes your copied address into another one. Also the fee used, I always make sure I am not using a too low or too high fee. Setting fee incorectly would either result in super slow transaction, or super high transaction fee. I don't have any near-btc-death experience though.

My mistake was in a transaction where I exchanged the amount of the commission, for the amount of shipping which caused me a loss of some BTC, some speculated about a theft, or a way to divert funds with more anonymity. What do you think has happened?

My biggest mistake is sending my btc into unsupported wallet which nearly caused half of my life

I've sent to the wrong wallet (backup on accident) after a copy/paste mistake. Thankfully the private keys were still on my computer alongside the passwords being written down, so it was an easy fix. But I learned to be more careful since then, phew.

That happened to me not with bitcoin but with doge address ( the provider has changed the wallet , unfortunately I didn't pay attention ) but I think I was  a bit lucky as the unintentionally transferred amount wasn't that big .
Since that day and so on , I do verify the wallet twice ( and do focus mostly on the beginning and the end characters of the address )

Scariest mistake I made was in my first couple of weeks I was selling GameCredits for 112k sats but I accidently wrote down 11 or 12k sats and thought it sold as that. Thank goodness Bittrex had a security measure in place and sold to the highest bidder at the time which was close to 109k.

Hm... Trying to remember...
So far I didn't made any big mistakes while sending/receiving BTC. Since the beginner days I'm doing everything very carefully while transacting BTC. I always double or triple check everything before transacting BTC. But I did some mistakes with altcoins. When I was newbie and didn't had knowledge about altcoins, I wanted to deposit one shitcoin to exchange, I set lowest possible fee (I had no idea how much I should pay) and transaction never was confirmed. But it wasn't a big loss.

So far, I did not have a big mistake in transacting btc. Last time, I've successfully received 0.005 btc but it was too long before I've recieved and cash out.
I think the biggest mistake that a newbie like me can do in transacting btc is when he gives private keys or other address. As a newbie, we should first study how transactions work and processed before we transact others or better to ask a veteran person in cryptocurrency in order to give ideas and tips in transaction.

i am a small time bitcoin investor but this money I invested is almost all of my savings. This is my first transaction in bitcoin. I bought almost 5 Bitcoin from a friend last year when its price is at 8000 dollars. Then I just purchased nano ledger s for more secure storage. I already typed the btc address deposit for my ledger nano s and transfer my 5 btc when suddenly my wife asked me to help her carry something. My mistake is to leave my laptop unattended when my 4 year old child accidentally press two letters which will eventually resulted in wrong btc address. Good thing I doubled check my btc address before transferring or else our savings was gone. I found out this situation when I reviewed the CCTV footage. WHEW!

One of the scariest mistake I did, was when I was completely new into investing bitcoin, I entered faucet sites, moved around from one site to the other, then joining a site that I though was legit, it was not listed in this forum to be a scam, so I joined I also did research the site, and it says that once you invest bitcoin with them they can give  double your bitcoin, it seems to be an opportunity that wasn't so bad even if you take the risk, since the value of bitcoin back then wasn't even at 1000 usd, then I invested some, and to my surprise, it wasn't a legit site, good thing though, I only invested aroung like 5 usd, it was a very costly experience, and because of that, I started to be more suspicious of any sites that uses bitcoin, even up to now, I study the companies first before I venture in it.

I am doing this too! always double checking the address and the one who will i send it. because, last time i did. i sent it to someone. and i am so depressed. and also i almost sent my private key because i am sleepy. my bad.
