President Barack Obama next week will visit a federal prison in Oklahoma as part of a Vice special on the criminal justice system, the White House announced Friday. Obama will become the first sitting president to visit a federal prison.

Accompanied by Vice president and host of the special Shane Smith, Obama will tour El Reno federal prison and meet with inmates, prison staff and law enforcement officers. The interviews in the medium-security prison facility will be featured in an HBO documentary that will examine the impact of the current criminal justice systems on prisoners, families and the judicial system.

"There’s an emerging consensus in this country -- on both the right and the left -- that the way we treat criminal offenders is utterly broken and weakening our society in profound ways," Smith, who is also the host of VICE's Emmy award-winning documentary series on HBO, said in a statement. "Visiting El Reno with President Obama -- the first-ever visit to a federal prison by a sitting president -- will give our viewers a firsthand look into how the president is thinking about this problem, from the policy level down to one on one conversations with the men and women living this reality. It’s going to be fascinating."

The special will air on HBO this fall.

So, the while Obama administration's policy is to release thousands of illegals with criminal records from custody and allow cities across the country to ignore federal law and file law suits against States who attempt to arrest criminals illegals, the President is going to visit a Federal prison as part of an HBO documentary, which, lets be honest, has one purpose... to portray law breakers as the next 'emerging" victim class.

And, while I have no doubt there are a few inmates who've been unfairly incarcerated or sentenced, especially on drug-related charges, having the President take part in an HBO "documentary" by visiting a prison to talk with criminals is, in terms of his priorities, pretty telling. And, considering only days ago, an American citizen was gunned down by an illegal with a lengthy criminal past was walking the street (again) because of Obama's policies, you might think he'd be rethinking his own catch and release policy instead of helping promote even more simpathy for criminals, wouldn't you?

consider this,
1) the total number of state and federal prison inmates as of 2013 = 1.52 million
2) the total number of American's no long in the workforce today is 93.6 million
3) the average hourly earnings since Obama took over are down 1.6%
4) Our nation's debt is a record $18.3 TRILLION which = per tax payer $154,000!

Now, call me curious here, but given those numbers, why would the president feel his time is best spent interviewing inmates for HBO rather than, say, interviewing business leaders about what they need to expand and create more jobs? (Hint: he's a bit more attached to issues more closely associated with community organizing,, like the plight of prison inmates).

Well, add prison inmates to the list of "victims" (created by......get ready for it.....a white priveldge society).

This is an interesting news item. There is no question that our per capita rate of imprisonment leads the world by a huge margin and that it has been that way for decades. If Obama follows through with some real actions that POTUS can do, then it will mean something. Otherwise it seems like only lip service.

We lead the world in incarceration percentage only because in much of the world crime is a way of life.

Well it certainly is a way of life in this country.

A perfect example is the Senate report on torture some months ago. Supplemented by the POTUS statement that "we tortured some folks", the Senate report confirms that torture was institutionalized under Bush.

Obama says "we won't look back", and only a very few lowly enlisted men have been charged and punished for torture.

Yes, crime is a way of life in Washington DC

The only trip I would like to hear that Obama is taking is when he returns to Chicago to live there.

What "real actions" would you like Obama to take? And do you really think prison inmates are more deserving of the president's attention than the families of those who've lost loved ones killed by illegals or addressing his own policies that have allowed these illegals to roam the country unabaited by law enforcement? I mean, doesn't that seem just a little......well.....odd?

The prison system is USA's answer to China's sweat shop labor.

That's sadly true since prisoners are payed 65 cents a day for work.
