Receiving Transaction: Did i make something wrong?

Hello!

I just came over from blockchain.org to electrum and ive got a big Problem. I just set up electrum and got it working and i have just little experience in bitcoin transactions itself. I created a new wallet and wrote down every information ilike: Wallet adress, Random code and Password.

Now i wanted to give my Wallet Adress to someone but i gave him the Adress shown under "Receive Transaction", which was another then i wrote down when i created that wallet.

Now, a few hours later i did not receive any money and wanted to be sure if i made something wrong or if the money was never sent.. Can somebody help my tracking that out?

The address you took down from the receive window should be one of the addresses in your wallet.

If you click on the 'Address' tab you will see a list of your addresses. The address you saw in the 'Receive' tab should be in that list of addresses.

If you see it there but there is no payment yet then the person has either not paid you or the transaction might have a small fee on it which could also cause a delay.

You can look up the tx of a btc address in the browser by using a blockchain explorer:

https://blockchain.info

If the tx is not listed there, it was not send!

You can also do the following in Electrum:

1) Go to the Address tab,
2) Right click on the address you gave the other person, the one to be used for the transaction,
3) Click on 'View on block explorer' on the menu that pops up,

That will open the block explorer you have set in the preferences of Electrum and will show you that specific address together with all transactions linked to that address.

Is your electrum synced? Is the green light lit up at the right bottom of it's window? If not then let it sync and when it is it will show the transaction and the funds in your wallet. i.e. if the person who was suppose to send you the money have sent it already and to check whether the address has any funds or not follow the advice above and look it up on a block explorer.

I don't know if you have taken back up of your Electrum Seed. If you haven't just do it because it's the most important thing you'll need to control your funds.
