Been using WIFI at my hotel and realized my computer's firewall has been off the whole time for some reason.  Also the WIFI is unsecured network.  Whats the chances I will get compromised or already am compromised?  And what should I do to ensure nothing bad has/will happen?

Thanks!

Tinfoil hat much?
Depends who knew you were there and the circumstances that the firewall was deactivated.

Unsecured wifi with no firewall gives you good reason to be worried. I would be busy changing all my passwords if I were you.

Hope you didn't have a bitcoin wallet on board or nude photos of the missus. If so, better see if your btc is still intact. Nothing you can do about the photos if they get into the wild.

Invest in a well known VPN service for piece of mind especially when traveling.

I think you should use a VPN. That way all your internet traffic gets encrypted and it should not be possible to read your traffic. For example when someone fakes the wlan name you normally use.

I'm not sure though if it would still be easy for a hacker to get into your computer.

Please ALWAYS contact me through bitcointalk pm before sending someone coins.

You should make sure the VPN you use does not store any information. If you are buying, I think you should go for https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/.

You mean a non logging VPN? I'm not sure but wouldn't that be only important when you need to hide for the police or agencies? I mean a normal hacker should not get anything out of a VPN logging, right?

I'm using HideMyAss VPN. I tested some and they are the best. Many Server, good speed and cheap compared to others. I know though that all my data is read by the NSA that way and that they might give data out for lower infringements. Though i might use another service if i would ever fear being detected for something i should not be detected for.

I doubt the question was about secret agencies. I mean before you have to fear them you have to do pretty bad things. I think protecting against hacker or maybe even the police is a lot easier. It is unlikely that the NSA would give the police tips about someone only doing bad things the police would be interested in. They would reveal their possibilities by doing so.
