"Have a Bitcoin Association. Like in America they used to have those commercials for milk: 'Milk does the body good.' That was a very powerful thing," said Singh.

He pointed out there has been some $900m raised in VC funding this year. The top companies could put some of that money together and pay for a little marketing for Bitcoin itself.

"Not marketing for their company, but marketing about Bitcoin: 'Why a normal person would use bitcoin, how it can be used.'

"Getting the word out there - working together. You've got all this money people have raised. Let's try to promote the community," said Singh.

Seeing as Bitpay have aligned themselves with the BIP101 pushers (aka the infiltration attempt by Bitcoin companies with investors like Goldman Sachs), I would ask you all to consider the possibility that consumer advocacy is not what "The Bitcoin Association" will be concerning themselves with.

Advertising Bitcoin can't be a bad thing. Especially if they're using rich VC's money.

I personally like the idea as well. As long as they really would promote only Bitcoin. I mean how often have we read here in the forum that Bitcoin is lacking some really good marketing campaigns. With the use of some of the VC everyone got we may be able to create something. Let's see what will happen.

BitPay is basically suggesting the exact thing The Bitcoin Foundation should have done years ago. I like this idea a lot, it is going to be difficult to keep this "Bitcoin Association" independent from all its bitcoin sponsors. Initial funding shouldn't be a problem, but long term sustainability is questionable.

Agree that would be the biggest challenge and in long term maybe inevitable to happen.

Carlton once again you have it spot on...  The VC's backing these companies have ulterior motives... We will see fiat masters coming in to dominate and centralize Bitcoin

development. They back BIP101 to shift control and power towards front companies, who will do the dirty work for them.

The Bitcoin foundation did not work, now they want to start another "Association"    What for? These companies should stay separate and compete for business in a

open market, like everyone else. No hidden background meetings behind closed doors is needed to fix things in Bitcoinland. Keep it decentralized.. we like it that way. 

These are all excellent companies with unique services .... let's just concentrate on that for now... Do what you do best.
