Was thinking of buying family & friends a gift card for BTC... not looking for GYFT or something to buy other products... just something they can receive in  a card with a wallet.
What's available?

I can't really think of anything that you could use as a card...maybe you could print a nicer looking paper wallet on heavier paper, and cut it to size? You could always make your own, an image editor and QR codes aren't that difficult to master.

So you are looking for a gift card that can redeemed for Bitcoin?

If so, you could give them paper wallets. There are also some services that provide those. BTC-e provides vouchers which you can give them and they can redeem those for Bitcoin on the website.

You're looking like this? ->  "Firstly buy a good gift card on any shop and print a bitcoin address with its private key on it and send some coins to the printed address, so that they'll get a gift card with some bitcoins"?

Maybe you can use something like this: http://cryptocards.co/?page_id=47

I have never used it though. You can set the BIP38 password and give it to them with the card.
They can keep the card with the btc store (but you know the password) or they can transfer it off.

I support a decentralized & unregulatable ledger first, with safe scaling over time.

It would seem that exchanges would be interested in providing an ecard link that can lead to a simple sign up process... the person that has no knowledge of the wallet process is sent to a form where they can simply type in the code (associated with your payment)... they would follow the prompts until their account is set up.
A $50 Christmas card should be enough incentive to make the leap.

I did this last Xmas for some family members to see if it would be claimed or used. The older people still have it stashed away in a cupboard somewhere and only 3 kids have used it for something. I find that the kids

are more interessted in experimenting with new things, than the older people. I also added a short "How to" guide within the card to make it easier to redeem the BTC.

People are simply too lazy to make the effort, or they are too busy to have time to research new things.. there is so much excuses. I think they will make more effort, if the amount is big enough.  Wink

This is really very good idea as doing so you can easily personalize the design of the card and can make one even by yourself in Photoshop with QR code with or without Bitcoin's public key along with private key but this will work for technology familiar persons. All the best with it.

I have used Birthday cards online and printed the public and private key on the card.

Then you just print it and fold it.
