I'm running Fedora 17. I'm a Fedora noob. I've been running Bitcoin on Ubuntu for about two years, but I always struggle on the installation/upgrade process. One of these days it will click and I'll be able to do it on my own. But for the time being can somebody walk me through the installation process for Fedora? Pretend you're talking to a total Linux noob.

So far I've downloaded the the tar.gz file and extracted it to another folder. From this point I am totally clueless.

C++ Source Libraries.  They are required to run bitcoind.

I'm not sure if this will work on F17  but you could try installing this package.

http://pkgs.org/fedora-centos-rhel-opensuse-mandriva/olea-i386/bitcoin-0.6.1-2.fc17.i686.rpm.html

regardless I think you'll have to muck around a bit paying careful attention to any error messages to see what dependencies you may be missing.

It took me a while my Centos Box but I did get it running.  Wish I could be more help.

It looks like 0.70 isn't even available for Fedora? Ugg. I had no idea that Bitcoin was limited to Windows, Mac, and Ubuntu. I thought it would be available for all Linux distros.

This is not really bitcoins fault. Fedora has disabled ecdsa from its openssl package because of patent fears (and bitcoin needs ecdsa), which
is pretty over the top imho, even debian has this enabled... anyway you could try to run the included binary, afaik this is static linked so maybe
it works (but if it in someway uses fedoras openssl it will fail). Or here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=102650.0 is someone providing rpms.
