Difficulty has increased much, mining at home would not be feasible, due high electricity cost and requirement of huge initial investment for mining hardware.

Is there any recent analysis available on the viability of cloud mining contracts?
Or should I avoid them like the plague?

cloud mining sites are mostly spam, when they start the new site starting for some time they will pay you correctly but after they get enough contracts sold and some bulk BTC they got then they will run away and close the site. so it is better to avoid them.

I totally with you mining at home is too costly , high price for hardware, maintenance cost and electricity. if you are living in the place where electricity is cheap then you can think of mining at home.

Best would be to buy BTC, I agree with others - cloud mining isn't as profitable anymore for the uninitiated.

PS : In case you are in Mumbai let me know, maybe I can help.
