Fumbling in the darknet

http://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/bangalore/fumbling-in-the-darknet/article7709137.ece

The city police have hit a dead-end with the probe into the case of three engineering students buying and selling narcotics off the dark web.

All attempts to track down the sellers yielded no results. Joint Commissioner (Crime) M. Chandra Sekhar said that the three students were just the tip of the iceberg, but attempts to unmask others had hit a roadblock.

Another challenge that the city police faced in the recent drug bust case was the use of bitcoins, the favoured crypto currency of the darknet. “Money can’t always be virtual. There has to be an interface where bitcoins are converted to currency in the real world. We tried to establish that interface, but again hit a dead end,” said Mr. Chandra Sekhar.
