I don't enjoy writing bad things about websites or companies especially if they operate in the cryptocurrency sphere as I would like them to do well. Unfortunately with opportunities there are also lots of scams out there and I would like to warn people when I see something wrong and share with them my bad experiences. This time I am having issues with cryptsy, it's a website that allows its users to exchange cryptocurrencies. I had an account there for almost a year and I deposited a few different cryptocurrencies I bought around. Unfortunately I was not active on the website for maybe 5-6 months and without warning they blocked my account "due to inactivity" I tried to contact them and get my account unlocked but they replied finding excuses or ignoring my emails completely. If you have significant amounts of BTC or LTC I would suggest you to move them somewhere else as it can happen that they block your account (without warning) and you lose all you have. It sounds pretty much like a scam to me..I would be happy to be wrong but it's been weeks already and I fear I lost some of my BTC and LTC

cryptsy has been around a long time, i havent logged on there on over a year and I was able to log on fine just now, pretty sure youre just here to badmouth a company. I even was able to withdraw the 0.002 i had on there from way back.

theres nothing here. message me if you want to put something here.

As I said I had an account for a year and during that time I didn't have problems. Honestly I don't know why they locked my account, I just found their way of handling things not very professional and wanted to warn people about it..I don't think I was overly nasty with my comments or anything considering what happened..anyway you are right about not leaving cryptocurrencies in online wallets for too long, I was lucky that I have most of mine somewhere else..

I tried logging in (haven't logged in for almost a year, IIRC) and got this message:

"This account is locked due to 6 months of inactivity. Contact support@cryptsy.com to unlock."

Just noticed this in the password reset email, I've never heard of anything like this anywhere else.

"Please note - when resetting your password your account will not be allowed to withdrawal or transfer out any funds for 24 hours as a security precaution. "

Smells like trouble to me.  Shocked

im 100% sure that is a security measure in case someone's email got hacked, nothing wrong with that honestly. but this troubles me:

I just tried logging in to my cryptsy account, only been a month. It said incorrect password even though I'm 99% sure it was the right one, so I clicked on forgot password. It sent me a link to reset the password, that email showed up immediately. Instead of having me reset it like every other site they said they sent me the new password in another email. That email is simply not showing up, I doubt it was even sent.

So I just lost my account. Seems like they needed the few satoshis in there more than I did. Poor business model to scare away long term customers like this.

this actually seems very unprofessional especially from a company that has been around this long.

theres nothing here. message me if you want to put something here.

This reminds me of when I used to use Cryptsy to convert Bitcoin to Dogecoins. Numerous times confirmation texts never arrived and confirmation emails never showed up. Once I was able to confirm the withdraw anything over 1 BTC often ended up delayed for hours, sometimes 12-24 hours. It took constant badgering through the support system to get things moving, they needed to manually approve it to even get the process started. At least a few times my deposits didn't show up either. It gave me the impression that they were running low on coins, so I stopped using them. This was back when altcoins were a flourishing market too, I imagine now that altcoins are mostly dead things have gotten much worse.

Regarding holding withdraws for 24 hours, it's totally unnecessary if the user has 2-FA enabled. Just another way to trap funds.

Deposit at your own risk folks. I bet if you deposit anything significant, like $1000+, they will demand a bunch of personal information and freeze your funds for days even if your funds are extremely legitimate. If they don't like your explanation they will seize your funds forever. I'm not just pulling this out my butt https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=943483.0

agreed, there are much better exchanges and currency converters to use now anyways. looks like cryptsy has really gone downhill though, havent really kept up with the news

I personally never had any big problems with them, they do indeed have a lot of small problems but i wouldnt call them scammers, they are just slow when dealing with customers, i dont have more than 0.05 btc there and i probably wont, i usually use btc-e but they dont have too many altcoins

did OP attempt to use their actual ticketing system and NOT reply directly back to the emails?  I had the same problems until I responded to the tickets in their support portal rather than replying to the emails - I think they don't see email replies back and so it gets lost in the stack.

Um...have you never heard of people who hack and scam people? I had a friend who had his blockchain.info hacked for $200 worth of BTC about 2 years ago. This measure is in place so that if someone hacks your email and your cryptsy account they can't immediate withdraw all of your balances. This is actually a good protective measure. If it was something like 7 days wait or like BTC-e's 3 day wait after password reset then yes it would be extreme.

Think outside of the box now people cmon...

I'm a lover not a hater. I'm a scam buster misunderstood. However, this forum is full of haters which is why you see my trust. They can't handle my success so they try to stop me...BUT NO ONE STOPS MY SUCCESS! ....Find Quickseller annoying? Click the "ignore" button below his name! You're welcome!

After sending 7 emails I tried opening a ticket in their support portal as you suggested..I will let you know if they reply to this

I managed to solve the issue and now I have access to my account again. When you see an error message on cryptsy they ask you to email the support (which I did), DON'T do that!! Instead you should open a ticket in their support page and that worked for me

Happy to see you resolved your problem. Make sure in future if you have coins to use wallets on pc or mobile. That way only transfer coins to exchanges when you are on and do not leave them in their when off just simply cash out to your main wallet on computer or phone. That way if you do get problems nothing is lost or at worse case if exchange gets hacked or goes down and under to scam you are not at a loss.

Well this has just happened to me,
all I can say is don't trust the Cryptsy lockbox system its not a saving account....

A bank wouldn't close your account after been away 6 months so why should Cryptsy?? and more to the point why didn't they send me a warning email? I still receive notifications from them so you'd assume their wasn't a problem...

They have stolen $400 from me
and are now asking me security questions that I never even set, I've had my account for two years the questions didn't exist...

its disgusting to treat a long term customer like this.

And this is only the start of my ranting on the matter, I'll keep you all updated as to the progress.

I used to be customer of cryptsy. Lost tremendous amount of BTC and customer service never responded. Some of my tickets were opened for 8 freaking months and everytime I would send an email I would get ignored.

never using it again.
