I think is is advisable to look into how other people have done it. Team up, meet up, make a good plan and prepare a story to tell the business owners, make a nice and simple flyer that will make it easy to understand the use of Bitcoin and how to implement it. Make sure you are not the only customer within the range of the business that will ever use Bitcoin as a payment.

I have done this many times. The best method is to show them the money on the table that they are missing. I let them know that I would love to be a customer, but since they only take unsafe credit cards and antiquated checks there is no way for me to buy. I recommend they use a payment processor like bitpay. Doing so they will make more money on each purchase compared to credit cards. It is also safer and faster for them.

Not taking bitcoin is really a foolish choice at this point. There is no cost and the only tech you need is a cell phone.

Quite nice.

Say, do you have any idea how to monetize their Bitcoin acceptance? (like would you offer to set everything up for XX$ or something)
I'm an old school believer, So I always do it for them for free. The only time it was ever an issue was when I was setting up a local gunshop. It all worked and I acted as the first customer. However, BitPay dropped them when they decided not to serve legal firearms sales. Not their best show, IMO.
Other than that incident, the stores are pleased once they have done it.

What would you say to them? How will they benefit from accepting Bitcoin as a payment method?

i have done this a few times with success, learnt many things and here is my advice:

firstly you need to find out how many people that already know/have bitcoin would actually use the restaurant..
for instance if it is just 1 person a month, then its not really in the restaurants interest to waste time teaching all their staff..
as such dont tailor your salespitch to be something common that all the staff should know off by heart..

next is to think about how the restaurant will process the transaction.

again if its one customer a month then getting the restaurant to sign up to bitpay or coinbase will again NOT be something worthwhile.

for those small transactions per month the best success is to set up a bartab (pre-pay) the restaurant $50 and give them a leaflet to show how they can check
the value of the meal, and then request that value of bitcoin to a QR code owned by you. and check the funds were received.
with it being a leaflet it can easily explain it without training and also have the QR code printed on it ready to show customers

that way the bitcoins go to you and the restaurant can just take the cash out of the tab and put it into their cash register.

tell the manager that he loses nothing and you will do all you can to increase their customer base. and if he could put a 'we accept bitcoins' logo in the window.

..
now if there are more then a few customers a week then design the leaflet/salespitch to explain how to process a payment via bitpay /coinbase (if you cannot handle the bar-tab yourself)

you may even want to organise a bitcoin meetup, and use the time to have a live demonstration of processing a bitcoin transaction.

next you will have to think about the way you talk to the manager. so find out what payment methods they accept. find out if they are linked to those food ordering websites.
now that was things to think about before even talking to the manager.

now with all of the information about how popular bitcoin is in your area and how much the manager already wants to accept many different payment methods will help you work out how easy or hard it will to tell the manager about bitcoin.

the best way to talk to the manager is not to use techy speech. for instance watch a few apple pay adverts, watch a few amazon adverts and keep it as low-key as that. make the conversation about how easy it is to accept a transaction (handing the customer a leaflet with a QR code on it) and how easy the manager will receive the converted fiat afterwards. aswell as how little the manager has to implement it and how little training it will need to implement. aswell as no costs to the restaurant.

DO NOT USE THE WORDS: decentralized crytographically secured ledger..
shop owners do not care about the technology behind bank wire transfers, or applepay algorithms. all they care about is ease of use and getting paid.
so concentrate on that.

very well said and nicely replyed , i totally believe your reply, it also can be done like in my country meals voucher are given my corporates to their staff , they exchange that voucher value to the resturant and have their food, the restaurant owner claim that voucher from the voucher company . so like this process can workout with bitcoin. like issuing bitcoin voucher. but the only problem is fluctuations of rates. then the voucher value cannot be changed. we have to work on that value fluctuatiing issue.

A few points on convincing merchants:
Using Bitcoin as a payment method would attract Bitcoiners to patronize their shop rather than a competition one with no Bitcoin acceptance.
BitPay allows instant payments with no delay, allowing users to buy things as fast as using fiat and credit card with little risk of chargeback. The Bitcoins can easily be exchanged to fiat with a small fee.
Bitcoin has a significantly less fee compared to Credit cards and could help save money for both the customer and merchant.
Paying with Bitcoin is just as easy as scanning a Qr code from the tablet with POS app.

my leaflet idea was something the restaurant would read (for training)to later use for their customers. however vouchers you are talking about are the opposite thing.. totally different.

however, as a separate thing, if you wanted to become a voucher company or a loyalty points company there are ways to handle the price volatility

I think flooding them will help too with lots of support and request query about accepting bitcoin as their payment method thru their contact emails, feedback paper in your table, posting in their facebook pages or other social media account and by calling their hotline.

that may not be a smart idea for independant restaurants. because overselling something. and pushing hard for it makes managers think there is too much to it and they become skeptical.

but if its a national chain restaurant. then leaving subtle hints in restaurants, ensuring each store manager see's it. and then on facebook pages of the restaurant.. to get the whispers started.. and then go to the chains CEO and tell them that stores have noticed bitcoin, will atleast tempt the CEO to investigate.

i would not suggest full on hard selling and over promoting.. i suggest be subtle and just poke at their attention before doing the fully researched sales pitch

That will be the target. But yes you are correct depends on type of restaurants.

Massive request is really a big help and with this method owners really noticed the same query demanded by people especially today with the help of social medias. Here in our country majority of netizens (internet citizens) used social medias. One good example is one of the fast food restaurant here (I will not mentioned the name). Many people used Facebook and Twitter to request a hit food in a fast food chain that stop selling since that menu is for occassional purposes only. With the massive request in their pages eventually they heard the request and granted it. But of course depends on request. If bitcoin will noticed hope they will look into it on how bitcoin will help their store/restaurant deeply.

We rotate our Bitcoin meetups between different pubs in the area and we arrange with the owners before we do this to accept Bitcoin. While we are there, we help them to accept

Bitcoin and they get the added benefit of us buying and paying in Bitcoin while we are there. We then tell them we will visit them in large groups in regular intervals and they go for

it. The pubs now phone and email us to schedule the next meetings and they even offer us some Bitcoin specials for the evening. They soon see the benefit and the reduced fee's.

Having one confirmation would cause any double spend attack to be close to impossible without having >51% of the total hashrate. 51% attacks are very expensive to execute and is thus unfeasible. In real world situations, most miners would just accept the first transaction that appeared first unless they are using some patch. The reference client only relay the transaction which appeared first, majority of the network would not relay the second transaction and would result in it not getting propagated well. The risk could be negligible for most small daily transaction and 1 confirmation would be recommended for larger transactions.
