Barcelona Set To Launch Its Own Digital Currency

It all began in Ecuador in the year 2000. The country had launched its digital currency “dinero electrónico” without attracting much limelight but today this currency attracts every Bitcoin enthusiast as it has turned out to be a winner! Now, as per Spanish News Today, the Town Hall of Barcelona is all set to replicate this measure and bring out its own digital currency.

just for the record: This coin will digital, but will be no decentralized, like Bitcoin. This coin will be highly centralized by the local mayorship of Barcelona (this is not necessary bad) and will be destined to social welfare (we are really screwed here in the south of Europe).

The official currency of Ecuador is the U.S. dollar.  I've never heard of a digital currency used by the Ecuadorian government, and in fact Bitcoin is illegal in Ecuador.

Canada did many years ago now and it failed miserably.. Canada sold it off and did not bother again.
