searching .bit domains proper way (without 3rd party DNS proxy) I'm bit confused

So I want to start browsing the .bit domains - the proper way - there is a guide https://wiki.namecoin.org/index.php?title=How_to_browse_.bit_domains and it says that I've to download the whole namecoin blockchain which I do not want, the setup guide is lookin confusin anyway - is there any other way to do achieve this. or I'll have to use the other options like using opennic ?
