My wallet just shut down,  when I restarted my addresses I set up where gone.  There was one new address in its place. What do I do? What happened?

Hello

Try a reboot of your computer, worked for me . If that doesnt work. shut off your computer, unplug it. And log into this forum on a another computer and ask for help in technical section.

Make sure you keep a back up of your wallet this time, saves any future headache.

How do I back up?

Go to File, then Backup Wallet and save that file on a USB stick or email it to yourself. Keep it to yourself.

ok thanks

Note that a single "one-time" backup is probably not sufficient for keeping your bitcoins safe.  You should consider backing up on a regular schedule, and keeping the last several backups.  That way if a recent backup is bad/damaged, you'll have a slightly older backup you can revert to.

How often that "regular" schedule should be depends a lot on your usage patterns.  In general, I'd suggest being aware of both how many transactions you send and how many addresses you create.  Anytime the sum of transactions sent plus addresses created is around 25, I'd suggest creating another backup.
