This topic is a spin-off of my "How to spot a scammer" thread in the Lending section, which I'd urge you to read first before attempting any transactions here.  It's geared more toward loan scammers, but a lot of it is applicable to Goods as well (tangible and digital).

How to protect yourself:

1. If you're thinking about purchasing anything from a relatively new user from this forum, ALWAYS USE A TRUSTED ESCROW.

Yeah, that's about it.  It's so simple I don't understand why people don't do this ALL the time.  Good luck, and happy deal hunting Smiley
