The game was over some weeks ago when the problems came to a high.
The last few weeks were just a game played in demo mode, with real money.

Crptsy didn't cease its activity. They report a phishing attack and closed withdrawals for a while.

Maybe it is an elaborate scheme but nobody except for Paul Vernon knows for sure.

One was via SMS, using our provider Twilio and gained entry into our logs and sending ability via a weak password on that account.

   
Grossly negligent, you would expect more from a company responsible for a big amount of user funds...

Regarding other issues that have been apparent at Cryptsy for the last couple months, I will be making another post to explain what has been happening in the next couple days.

So an expected "hacker attack" was required to force BigV to communicate with his users?

ALL activity has been halted. There even is a link to get your money back (which wasn't working).

So yes, it's time to worry now.

That email was a phishing attempt and should be ignored, if you used the link in the email you are advised to change your password and enable 2fa

Phishing Attempt:: There is a phishing attempt going around prompting users to go to a cryptsy-refund website. Do not go to this website or give your login details on any website other than the official Cryptsy website. There were two avenues of the Phishing attempt. One was via SMS, using our provider Twilio and gained entry into our logs and sending ability via a weak password on that account. The passwords on this account have been secured. The other avenue was via email using the same mailing service we use (Mailgun), but was not sent using our account. It is uncertain where the email list for this Phishing attempt was attained from, as we do not show any unauthorized access to our Mailgun account nor our internal systems. We are still investigating this matter. If you were a victim of this phishing, you should log into your account at Cryptsy immediately and do the following: 1. Change your password and enable 2fa if you don’t already have it enabled. 2. Check your pending withdrawals, we currently have withdrawals disabled so if you see one that shouldn’t be there you can request to have it cancelled. Regarding other issues that have been apparent at Cryptsy for the last couple months, I will be making another post to explain what has been happening in the next couple days. Until we are able to determine the extent of the phishing attempt, all withdrawals are paused and will be cancelled before they are brought back live.....BigVern

You don't know that. Probably not a very popular opinion here but I trust the guy. Of course I wouldn't recommend to anyone to deposit funds on cryptsy right now but If I had some bitcoin left I think I would risk some more.

13k BTC, and 300k LTC were stolen July 29, 2014 (a year and a half ago)

My research has turned up 456,501 DRK/Dash were also stolen (only large tx that day)

No idea on any other coins...

So yes, it's time to worry now.

The time to worry is before any loss, or least it pays better then.   I dont really blame any party as I think we know in concept an exchange with all money centralised is vulnerable increasingly with its success and growth.  Bitcoin itself has to avoid this kind of natural crush towards amassing all power and risk in one place or it'll fall into the same problems.  
We could say oh the people who ran the exchange are the bad people they made mistakes but really I think the problem was allowing worth to be placed in one place that goes against why bitcoin succeeds in the first place.

Many are suggesting other options other than the 3 mentioned above:
4. Spread the loss to all users in the system and allow trades to continue.

From the blog itself I think it would be best to press on, take the hit and place IOU into accounts that have fallen short from this failure.   Nobody will be happy or grateful but it will be a working system at least, its really no good to freeze an exchange and everybody loses.  Its like a golden rule really that all exchanges small and large avoid trading halts for anymore then brief periods.

I cant remember which exchange did this previously after a loss, were they able to recover maybe someone can say

It's way more then those. For some coins Cryptsy was the main exchange so it will be way more then just btc/ltc/drk etc.
