Hello.

I recently received an AntMiner S5 and I'm mining on Slush's pool. For some reason, it seems like whenever I'm rewarded for a found block on the pool, my hash rate drops to about 600. I believe it is that chain 2 stops working, however it still shows as active ('o') on the miner's status page. So I have to restart the miner pretty much everytime I get rewarded to get back up to 1.15 TH.

The reason I think it's chain 2 is because when I unplugged that board, it kept hashing at 600 GH after a block is found.

Has anyone else had this issue or have any ideas how to fix it? Thanks

I think your psu may be too weak.

you can try a lower freq  say 300 vs 350   if the board does not drop it means the psu has enough power for 300 freq around 920gh

and not enough for 350 freq around 1150 gh

what is the exact make  and model of your psu

The PSU is a Corsair GS 800. The miner I got has 2 fans and was defaultly set to a frequency of 387.5M.

Yeah go down to freq 325 let me know how that works .

I am going to look up that corsair psu.

newegg lists it here

reviews do not like it.  it looks to me that all cables are attached and that you have 2 pcie cables each with 2 jacks.  so really only 1 cable per each side.

the s-5 will pull 600 watts with a platinum psu at freq 350

so this low cost low quality psu will need 660 watts at freq 350......  it may or may not be able to spend 660 watts but with only 2 cables each doing 330 watts.

you could do this

Running it at 325 now, I'll give it some time to see what happens.

If I have another power supply (630W), would it be stupid and/or dangerous to connect 1 PSU to each chain?  And if that was possible, would that use more power or would each PSU still only use what it needed for each board?

it could work fine.

give me make and model and I will research it.

as for more power no  the same or a little less.

It is late and I am going to crash now.  but give me model / make of second psu.  I will have an answer in the morning.

Second PSU is a Raidmax Thunder V2

it should help
once again it is not a great psu.   you need to keep one psu on the left blade and on psu on the right blade.  don't put 2 psu's on one blade.

top of photo is blade two use one psu in the two jacks on the top side of the photo

bottom  of photo is blade one  use one psu in the two jacks on bottom side of photo
